I got a bunch of stuff in over the past few days, and once again, everything is in pretty good shape. The BDs are just about always flawless. CDs can be a little bit rough, but they're usually cheap enough to offset any concerns about broken jewel cases or some minor wear to the booklet.

Got my Halloween 2, and not only was it the correct Scream Factory version, but it included the slipcover! (I'm usually not that big on slipcovers, but I like them with my SF titles, as I like to have the original artwork on the case and the new artwork on the slipcover)

I used to order CDs, and a few DVDs from them, but got sick of getting horribly scratched discs. Their quality control on these products is abysmal. I refuse to order either of those from Hastings anymore.

At least with Blu-Rays it is very hard to scratch them, so chances are they will arrive in decent shape.

I have stopped getting anything from GoHastings. To many errors, major scratches (that cause playback problems) and sometimes completely wrong products. All I get is the same answer. Sorry, just return it and we will refund it as they never have the same item back in stock. Tired of that same old game...

There's a price to pay for getting things on a dime. No pain, no gain. For everyone else, there's retail.

I ordered it from them also a few months ago and also got the correct Scream factory version with slip but it was missing the second disc.

Got my discs today in perfect shape but didn't think about UV codes, now the completist in me wants to sell the Jurassic Park and rebuy lol I was VERY surprised that Twilight Forever included the UV codes for all five movies, so just with that and BoB/Pacific giftset at the sale Amazon price I got my money's worth (also got Bambi which is missing the outer slip cover and the case is a little beat up, thinking of contacting Disney for a replacement case). $110 for those 4 items.

Yes, I agree their quality control is unpredictable. Some items arrive in brand new condition and some look seriously scratched. The thing is, most of the stuff I buy is only a few dollars. If you call and tell them, most often they just tell you to pitch the disc and they refund you. I just got four used cds in the last sale for about $10. One was a limited edition with bonus disc, one was a digipak, and two were normal discs. One of them was pretty scratched but played fine and the rest were in pretty good shape.

re: Hastings / gohastings.com discounts and deals on Blu-ray

has anyone actually received Blu-rays from gohastings that were really in bad shape and wouldn't play? not referring to packaging but the discs themselves. To me, that is one of big advantages of blu-ray - less issues when buying used.

DVDs? Yeah, I can understand that. But you really have to work at damaging a blu-ray so it would have problems.

Just curious.

never with BD's. At most, smudges, slight scratches. definitely fingerprints - but none have not played. I owe literally half my collection to goHastings and the other half to Amazon's credit card points.

Same here. Everything I have received played fine and I've ordered probably 200 BDs from them. That said, I never order "previously viewed" (former rentals). "Used" only.

Yes, multiple issues with DVDs and CDs. Some of the CDs arrived in such bad condition it was apparent that no human at GoHastings had even given it a cursory inspection.

Two separate incidents with Blu-rays. They are simply built tougher and the ones that seem to develop problems are the ex-rentals, which people abuse.

It wouldn't surprise me if GoHastings has some sort of unpublicized policy to fill new customers' orders with sealed merchandise when the used copies sell out, in the hopes of gaining a permanent customer.

If an item is out of stock you can't place an order for it. I suppose it's possible they could allow more orders than they have on hand before making it unavailable and sometimes they ship a new one then. I don't think they do it as a rule though. And I don't see how they could differentiate new from old customers in that situation. I always figured they sometimes get unopened trade-ins whether from individuals or overstocked retailers and that was how you sometimes get new/unopened items since they probably aren't allowed to sell them as new since they were trade-ins from whatever source.

Ugh, same here. Worst of all, my order was made during the bogo sale and the BoB/P was the $1 movie. My only option was to return it and they'd honor the deal IF I found it online again. :/

I got it during the buy 4 items get 40% off so if they just want to give me a refund, eh, I guess I'll manage as long as they keep the 40% for each of the other ones (each item was charged its individual 40% off price).

I got one once--it was a Previously Viewed version of 13 Assasins. It just got stuck at around 25 minutes in and wouldn't play. I tried 2 different bluray players but got the same result. I eventually got a refund from GoHastings and didn't have to send back the disc.

I think the general consensus is to avoid "previously viewed" whenever possible. People don't treat rentals very well in general IMHO

Exactly. Not from goHastings, but I purchased previously viewed Blu-rays from Family Video and the discs were in horrendous shape. It's tough to damage Blus, but whomever had watched those discs in the past did a nice job of it.

I got burned ordering Previously viewed Blus from go Hastings. It it is from a two or multi disc package, they only ship the movie disc. That is not clearly stated on their website and I have had more than one argument with them about that fact. I would seriously avoid them from Hastings.

The "previously viewed" are rentals so often they don't include the other discs or special features on the single disc. You are right though, it should be clear on the website when ordering. I don't understand this logic in general. If I was renting the disc, I would want the special features. I guess it is to get you to buy the disc if you liked the movie enough. It doesn't seem cost effective to produce different discs of the same movie though.

In my case, they were regular retail copies that they put into their rental system and they removed the extra discs in the process.

So by all means, if it said 2 disc, you were completely justified in your argument and they shouldn't have given you a hard time.
