I had a hard time finding stuff that I wanted this time around, as I purchased most of what I wanted during the last three 20%-off sales. I mostly bought the newest seasons of shows I've already started this time around.
Well in November, I picked up the complete series sets of Voyager and TOS, so right there that was like ~$600. I can't quite remember what else I got during the sale in November.

This time around there were so many good deals on TV series I wanted to get, I just went for it. Three's Company has been on my radar for a long time. As was Stargate. And then there are the loads of post-discount $5-$7 movies. Notmuch of a risk per title if I don't like it. I love price drops.

Funny thing is, I've gotten a good deal of titles during the studio specific salesof the past few months. I picked up 12 titles during the MGM B2G1F, and 15 titles during the Fox B2G1F. If I hadn't gotten them then, I almost certainly would have now.

Also, as goofy as it sounds, some of these movies I've owned before and decided to re-acquire. Off the top my head, I had the first season of the 4400. I paid whatever the first price was for it, probably $20. I liked it, and I was set start watching S2 in broadcast, but I got used to the 16:9 look, and it was being broadcast in 4:3. So I sold it for maybe $15. So now I buy it back for $10 because I bought S2. In the end, it's kind of a wash, since Ilost $5 on the initial selling of it, but I bought it back for $5 less than I got for when I sold it. Boy does that sound needlessly complicated.

So I've made a rule for myself now that I do not sell any movie or TV set I've watched for at least 3 months after viewing. Sometimes I feel "meh" about something, only to find later on I wish I still had it.

This November, I'm sure it'll be a lot more dofficult forme to find things to buy. That is, unless I fall victim to HD-DVD or Blu-Ray (or both).

That thing would be great to leave in someone's room as they were sleeping. I guarantee they wouldn't be snoozing the alarm clock that morning.

I've definitely gotta stop reading this thread. I think after this sale, I won't be buying DVDs for at least 6-7 months. I may participate in the next DDD sale (of course if there is one) but very little. I think I went a bit nuts.

This has been some good reading!

This thread has convinced me to buy Citizen X. Old School is back in stock and I've been meaning to watch it again after only seeing it in parts.

That thread brent linked to a few pages back gave me some good ideas but the titles I'm interested in (ie: Cypher, You Me & Everyone We Know) are just a tad more then I'm willing to spend at the moment. Save the Green Planet sounds interesting as well.

Dummy is one funny odd little film. It has a couple one-liners that had me rolling.

I'm rambling again...

Just placed my third and final order. My $916.02 grand total was slightly less than for previous sales - I must be reaching a plateau.

DDALP003206D THE AMAZING ADVENTURES $4.79
DDANE070967D VICTORY AT SEA SET $38.37
DDANI001089D OH MY GODDESS (CE) $23.74
DDBBC016180D HYPERSPACE $11.60
DDBMD078949D EERIE INDIANA-COMPLETE SERIES $16.78
DDCOL000989D SAHARA $15.31
DDIMA009574D COMPLETE SUPERMAN COLLECTION $5.85
DDPAS001519D STAR WARS VS STAR TREK-RIVALRY CON $4.79
DDPRD001133D GOIN SOUTH $4.82
DDPRD063144D PARIS WHEN IT SIZZLES $7.48
DDPRD088922D WONDER SHOWZEN-1ST SEASON $15.58
DDSLS009876D IMAX-SOLARMAX COLLECTOR'S EDITION $9.57
DDWBD008047D IMAX-COSMIC VOYAGE $7.26

Total: $165.94

SAHARA is the 1943 version, starring Humphrey Bogart. I give it a strong recommendation for anyone who enjoys a taut wartime drama with good acting, writing and direction.

but does anyone know for certain if the starburst editions are 2 or 4 discs? Someone in the 1st or 2nd thread said only their 1.x (1.1 I think) edition was 2 disc, but the rest were 4. *can only find info specifying starburst .10 is 4 discs.

I received V.02 - V.07 (except v.05 of course) and they have all been 4 discs.

I also received 1.1 from overstock, and although it was listed as a 2 disc, it came as the four. I think the sites just don't update with the new information.

EDIT ** NEVERMIND, V.06 was a 2 disc, hopefully it can be returned.

I don't know but definitely make sure you get Dark City.

Also, from your name, I'm kind of surprised you don't already own Starman.

DDD Calculator update for 6/17

This is through Post #421 of this thread.

Number of orders = 918
Number of items = 8036
Total = $134299.92
Average number of items = 8
Average per order = $146.30
Average per item = $16.71

I don't think we've yet hit what we did in November 2005, but the sale's still going and we'll probably have other orders trickling in to this thread for at least another week ago, so we'll see.

Why is Farscape called "Starburst edition"? I keep thinking you get a package of the candy with each dvd volume... prove me wrong, please.

Yeah, I've never even seen it actually. I have no idea why thats my name, I think it started as an REM reference but got mutated since then.

I love The Red Violin also, but I find the currently available Lion's Gate DVD to be annoying to watch due to a subtitle problem.

This movie is in several different languages, part of it in English. On the LG disc, the subtitles do not come on automatically; you have to turn them on from the menu. No big deal, except they are then turned on through the ENTIRE FILM, including the English parts, which is distracting.

I got rid of my copy and obtained the out-of-print Universal region 1 release, which correctly displays subtitles only during the non-English scenes.

Of course, if Lion's Gate has issued a corrected pressing, I will be all over this, since I find the picture quality on the Lion's Gate to be superior to that on the Universal. Anyone know anything about that?

Although it's very tempting, I'm not going to place a second order this sale. Tomorrow is Father's Day, and I smell some gift cards coming my way to a DVD vendor, which will enable me to get more stuff even cheaper than through this sale (as in free). There's not much more I want anyway.

Let the madness begin, as the sale heads into its final hours. Have fun everybody!
