Well I tried to check out my nearest Big Lots today, but the store is small and was so crowded with people and so crammed with stuff it was not practical. Plus they only had one cash register open and the line was halfway to the back of the store. The dvd rack is near the registers so you'd have to block the narrow aisle in order to bend down to see anything that wasn't at eye level. I did see a couple of the recently mentioned titles but it looked like they were all $3. I might try to go back later tonight. I wish they would move into one of the big abandoned retail buildings that are all over town. As busy as that store is, I'm sure they could afford it.

I finally got my Batman (for $2), so I'm happy. My store had the usual crap on the DVD rack, but I checked the electronics section and found piles of stuff. Also saw I couple I hadn't seen listed yet (could've been listed, I just didn't see them) A Very Long Engagement 2-disc and Broken Flowers for $4. There were other new titles but I can't remember any apart from Red Eye, but I don't know how much that one was.

I was at a Big Lots yesterday and picked up 2 Collectors Tins, 'Best of the Lucy Show' & 'Wits and Wisecrackers.' The Lucy Show tin contains episodes of Dick Van Dyke as well, over 8 hours of material on 3 DVDs. The Wisecrackers set contains The 3 Stooges, Abbott & Costello, Little Rascals and Charlie Chaplin with almost 9 hours of shows on 3 DVDs.

These were $7 - the cashier indicated she'd never seen them before. When I looked them up online at a few places, it showed a release date of 11/20 at Best Buy, Amazon etc so it looks like these are brand new. These other online places had them from $11-14 (with shipping factored in). There was one other tin available that I passed on a 'Martin & Lewis' set.

The infamous "Black Friday" Thursday-Friday-Saturday ad was in my paper this morning.
Page 3 - "Friday Only Deals" shows "Major motion pictures! Assorted DVDs. Many popular titles to choose from! $2 each."

Here is what is pictured:

Christmas with the Kranks
Mr. Deeds (Sandler)
Charlie's Angels Full Throtle SE
Bottoms Up
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within
Being Julia
Old Gringo
The Squid and the Whale
Love and a Bullet
In the Cut
Hush
Yoyeux Noel
Lords of Dogtown
Missing
Nine LIves
Anacondas
8mm2
Population 436
Hollow Man 2

No mention in the ad of any of the other titles reported. As with BL, YMMV.

With the exception of "Batman: The Complete 1943 Movie Serial Collection" I have been able to pick up all others from the larger lists I was interested in at $3. I *may* go back Friday for a final look as the only store in my area is only 1 mile from my front door.
Happy hunting!

My local Biglots had the following Sony/Columbia/Tristar DVDs on a big table:

Gunslinger's Revenge
Vampires: Los Muertos
The Red Dwarf (French language film)
The Tenants
Pursued (Christian Slater)
The Hunt for Eagle One
USS Poseidon: Phantom Below
The Debut

They also had many other titles, but they have already been mentioned/listed.

I picked up Memento LE, In the Cut Unrated DC, and Evening with Kevin Smith 2 at the Big Lots about 20 minuted from my house the other day. All for $3 each. I'm going to have to keep stopping by that place!

So I thought I'd get there this morning for the 7 am opening and clean up on the $2 Tri-Star titles, spending $50 to get the $10 off a future visit coupon. What the hell!? Nothing new and they're all still $3. Turns out I misread the ad. The two buck DVDs are FRIDAY ONLY. Sixty mile round trip for nothing, except I picked up the two disc, 16 episode set of Richard Boone in "Medic" for $4.

A couple of other titles I don't believe have been mentioned yet. Either $2/$3 (YMMV).

I'll Do Anything
Love Stinks
Mr. Jones (anamorphic although it doesn't state it)
Sweet Talker
Would I Lie to You? (seen this from $2-$4)

Forgot to mention. While browsing the Columbia/Tri-Star selection at the Coon Rapids BL this morning I had a choice: A $4 "previously enjoyed" copy of "Squid and the Whale" or a brand new one for $3.

Stopped at Big Lots just before closing today and saw a few of the Mill Creek 50-packs I had not seen before, priced at 13.00 - Horror, Science Fiction, Nightmare Worlds, Mystery Classics. Nothing else new today.

All i can ever find at our local Big Lots is a bunch of crap movies that nobody has ever heard of, and most all of what they have is used stuff that's obviously rewrapped.

Don't feel too badly, Doc...you weren't the only one. The wife & I made a trip (about 8 miles there) & discovered the save thing. We had a good laugh about it & then went across the street to Walgreens & bought 10 bags of M&M's for my Sunday School class of middle-schoolers (will add other goodies such as popcorn tins & a good book for their Christmas gift).

Will try again today (there are 3 Big Lots within a 50-mile radius where we live but don't know if it's worth the gas to visit all of them...unless we also stop at the other Target, Best Buy, CC, etc.). Anyway, thanks to this forum, I've already ordered online quite a few of the deals offered by the other stores.

I saw the Steve McQueen double feature. Among others I picked up the 1943 2-disc Batman serial. I got eight total. First time I've found any decent DVDs at my local Big Lots

Just got back from my nearest Big Lots. Picked up:

An Evening With Kevin Smith: Evening Harder
Blue Thunder: Special Edition
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within - Special Edition
Closer
I Still Know What You Did Last Summer

All were 2 bucks. They had a bunch of Lifetime Movies I thought about getting but decided to see how the rest of my day went first.

My search was about 90% successful...

I hit 2 Big Lots in eastern PA yesterday and 4 more today. The only ones I couldn't find that I wanted were An Evening with Kevin Smith 2 and Casualties of War Extended Cut. Here's a list from the titles mentioned in this thread of what I found. Looks like I saw practically every title mentioned except for maybe 10 titles, unfortunately including 2 I wanted. I did pick up at least a dozen I wanted so this really turned out to be a sleeper that was the best Black Friday DVD deal of the year. The cheapest price and the most unique selection with something for everybody...

also saw
St. John's Wart
Dead Birds

Can't really recommend either except as a throw-away rental for $2. Little replay, imho.

Either the Big Lots in Ashboro, NC was totally creamed this morning, or they were never given much inventory. I showed up around 11am and there were only a few discs left on a display that didn't look like it could hold very many in the first place. Angels Over Broadway (Rita Hayworth) would have been a good one if I didn't already have it. Only disc I wound up getting was The Squid and the Whale for $2...who knows when/if I'll get around to watching it. --Peter
