My brother was working in the Concord, NC area today (where there are two Big Lots). I had him to check them both for me but there were none of the Sony $3.00 titles at either store.

Knowing I liked old serials (I'd told him to look for the Batman serial), he did find a 2-disc Platinum Disc release of the 1930's Republic serial "Robinson Crusoe Of Clipper Island" for me at one of the Big Lots (for $4.00).

Hopefully, the Sony titles will eventually turn up at all of the Big Lots stores before a certain day after Thanksgiving.

The reason being: A scan of the BL BF ad was up briefly today. They'll have DVDs for $2.00 (and a number of these Sony titles were pictured in the scan).

I don't know how good Big Lots stores are about stocking their advertised items though (hope they're better than K-Mart!).

Thanks.

I saw some DVD sets (4 disc) for $8.00 don't know if it is a good value, but I believe it was like Nascar and things like that. I haven't seen those that often, by some company ending in -ent

I was gonna look it up but forgot the first word. It was something like XXXXX-ent

For the Cleveland area folks, at the brookgate Big Lots I picked up:
Mr. Deeds, Awakenings, Dean Martin double, Steamboy, Memento 2-disc, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Squid and the Whale, Ali, Pulse, The Forgotten and Body Double Special Edition.
There were other titles too, DEBS, New Guy, All three Wild Things (except the longer cut) as well as the twopher. Just be sure to read the small print to avoid Full Screen. That's why I put Steve Martin's Roxanne back.

Steamboy? Nice. I'll have to make a trip over to Big Lots in the near future.

For those that were asking, I picked up extra copies of:

Batman
Steve McQueen set
Dean Martin set

so get in touch so we can work out a trade. Only thing I'm hunting for right now is Evening with Kevin Smith 2 and Blood Diamond 2-disc (see the walmart thread).

Also, anyone looking for Panda Z Vol.4? I hadn't seen it before and noticed it today. I left it there, but might be able to go back and get it if someone needs it.

Cheers!

The Big Lots I went to had Wild Things 2 by itself for the same price, so I got that one. I've already got the first Wild Things disc that had it the right way.
What is really stuped is the Craft / Wild Things double feature has BOTH as widescreen ...

Picked up about 72 titles today -- had a 20%off coupon to make this deal really sweet. The only thing I did not get that I really want is the Batman serial ... that included some doubles for friends and gifts ...

Thanks for the info.

At one store near me, the titles were $3.00 and at another store, many of the titles were $2.00.

A few titles not mentioned:
DEATH TUNNEL
CRIMSON RIVER PART TWO

I have not seen THE CAVE at either store, but they do have the Sony rip-off, THE CAVERN

Visited my local Big Lots today to look for Memento or Batman. Lots of stock and found neither of my target titles, but did pick up:

Body Double SE $3
Dean Martin double feature [WHO WAS THAT LADY?/HOW TO SAVE A MARRIAGE (AND RUIN YOUR LIFE)] $3
The Producers (2005) WS $4
The Guns of Navarone SE $2

At the Independence Blvd. Big Lots in Matthews/Charlotte, NC, there was a whole table at the front of the store devoted to the $3.00 Sony titles, stacked two rows deep (this was in addition to the usual four-sided DVD/VHS rack).

Unfortunately, they had no Steve McQueen set, Dean Martin set, or 1943 Batman serial - which were the main titles I was looking for.

I did wind up getting: THE CAVE, THE DARK, DON'T COME KNOCKING, POPULATION 436, WARRIORS OF HEAVEN AND EARTH, and THE WOODS.

I could easily have spent a whole lot more but I'm trying to reign back my spending in anticipation of Black Friday.

One $3.00 Sony title I saw which hadn't been previously mentioned: AUGUSTUS (aka "Imperium: Augustus" - a 2003 mini-series with Peter O'Toole).

They also had more DVDs than usual on the regular 4-sided rack further back in the store: tons of Lifetime movie titles at $2.00 each ("The Truth About Jane," etc.), a bunch of cheapo horror movies (all from the "Brain Damage" label), and some Columbia/TriStar-Trinity Entertainment titles for $4.00 each (nothing remarkable - I remember seeing Judgment In Berlin, Maximum Overdrive, King Kong Lives, etc.).

One question: do the copies of "Batman: The Complete 1943 Movie Serial Collection" at Big Lots have their outer slipcovers?

I don't think I've ever seen any slipcovers on any titles at BL. I've seen 2 or 3 copies of Batman, no slipcovers either.

While waiting for an oil change yesterday, I dug through the DVD rack in the Seekonk, MA store. I came out with:

Philadelphia: Anniversary Edition
Breakfast on Pluto
Ali: The Director's Cut
Casualties of War: Extended Cut
and
A River Runs Through It: Deluxe Edition
for $3.00 a piece.

It looked like they were stocking some former Blockbuster rentals as well and were selling them for $4.00 a piece.

Thanks to the OP and this thread for the bargain!

cheers,

When they had the last 20% off coupon, they were out of some shelves that I wanted. So, the manager gave me a one-time 20% off coupon for the shelves. Turns out the shelves were not deep enough for my uses, but I found use for that coupon!

Where o where is that Batman serial --- went to two more Big Lots yesterday.

I saw the original Urban Legends and do note that Girlfight was fullscreen (and let me say they made it very hard to find that info on the box). I wish I could have found the Batman serial, too, as that was the main reason I went yesterday. I was totally caught off guard by all these other $3 titles. I also noticed the previously viewed $4 and $5 titles but stayed clear.

ah Lucky you. I hope they come up with one of those 20% coupons soon.

I only saw the Batman DVD at one BL(out of 8 BL). The sad part is that I think I left some copies there, and when I came back they were all gone.

Also the Ali and the Memento DVDs are very hard to get here, at least here in South Florida.

People seem to have a hard time getting the Steve McQueen in other parts of the country, but I see those all the time here. I guess it's Demographics.

Hi everyone. This is my first post on the board. I've been reading the forum for a while, but just joined today. I hit my local Big Lots today per the recommendations on this thread and walked away with quite a few discs. Finding the Memento 2 disc was especially cool.

I picked up an extra copy of Steamboy and the 1943 Batman Serial in hopes to trade for An Evening with Kevin Smith 2 or the Capote/In Cold Blood double feature. I can provide a link to my 100% positive ebay feedback if necessary. Let me know. Thanks again.

Got lucky at my local Big Lots today. Picked up Memento (2D), The Missing SE WS, Charlie's Angels Superbit, The Mothman Prophecies, and The Fog all for $3 each. Also got John Carpenter's Vampires and Final Fantasy The Spirits Within SE 2D for $2 each. I also spotted Wild Things 2, Sniper 2, Mr. Deeds, Anacondas, Starship Troopers 2, Christmas With The Kranks, and some of the others already mentioned. The last ones I mentioned were cheap also, but I've seen them and not real sure how soon I would watch any of them again. Bear in mind that on BF Big Lots will supposedly have quite a number of $2 DVDs. Probably paid $1 too much for some today. LOL

Well, I've gotten over 100 of these discs from this wave and the previous couple that showed up at Big Lots this year. I just have to wonder how the heck they got there? Did Sony print way too many and this was the only way they could get rid of them? A lot of these are great titles that I wouldn't have minded paying full price for.

I do hope Sony's losing their shirts on all those Foolscreen-only reissues they've been doing. That's the dumbest thing any major studio has done with the DVD format in its history; it's gotten me to pick up the discontinued widescreen discs whenever I find them, but for this reason my new widescreen TV will NOT be a Sony.
