I changed my address, got the confirmation email for my order and it had the correct address, then they shipped the two discs I ordered to my old address. That wouldn't be a problem, but they shipped them in two separate orders (one was OOS at the time). They went to my old address, then were forwarded to my new address. When they arrived, I was informed there was $2.23 postage due on each package. Having to pay that extra shipping kinda killed the good deal I was getting.

Anyone have this happen or know what I should do?
So I called and told them of the address change and was assured that it would be fixed for the next order I placed. Well, I ordered two discs and they shipped them to the wrong address (my old one) again. This time, I didn't even receive the forwarded package with extra postage due, I got nothing. I emailed CH customer service. They then proceeded to charge me for the discs again (even though they mailed them to the wrong address) and charged a credit card that was different than the original card I used for the purchase. That's not all. I now have another charge pending for the same amount. And here's the kicker: they shipped the discs to the wrong fucking address....again.

Here's the tally so far:

Ordered two discs on card #1 for $23.44.
Package sent to wrong address, not received.
Emailed customer service.
Charged $23.44 x 2 on card #2.
One package sent to wrong address.

Total: I've been charged $70+, had four discs shipped, all to the wrong address. Have not received any of them.

I'm going to call tomorrow and raise hell. What a pain in the ass.

Ok, I have a question. I have 2 different orders on Columbia House. They were orders for B1G1 on Blus. On each order, I made a pre-order and got one already available for free. I received the available titles, but now I want to change the pre-order titles to something else. The pre-order titles WERE Kung Fu Panda BR and Hancock BR, but I just picked them up at Best Buy's Private sale last night. I contacted Columbia House via email and they said the titles could not be changed, but I could return them when they arrive. If I return them, will I be charged for the freebies since I techinically would no longer be eligible for them. Also, will I be refunded the entire price, shipping included?

You are really setting yourself up for a lot of headaches by doing this. Yes, they may charge you full price for the freebies. Or not. Columbia House is not a retail store, it is a membership club and trying to return discs that aren't defective can cause all sorts of problems and leave you going around and around with Customer Service for months to come.

I strongly advise you to keep the pre-order BDs you get and sell or trade them (in the High Def forum, for example) rather than hassle with doing returns at CH. And if you take advantage of any more promotions in the future, make sure you actually want what you buy.

^wise words^

Plus the fact that since you got them in a BOGO sale, you could probably sell them for more than what you paid.
...or, trade them for dvds that are not available through CH .

Thanks. I think I'll just try to sell 'em off. And I did want them, I just was able to get them before street date and at a lower price that I was hoping I could trade for something else.

It seems lately I've been getting floaters and a couple snapper cases with damaged center hubs. I've gotten at least four disk with scuffs but they seem to play ok on a 32" LCD. I've never contacted CH about replacing a scuffed but working disk for fear of being label a pain in the butt and blacklisted. What does everyone think about this?

I think you can put DVDs thru a shredder and they'll still play fine.

Never understood people worrying about floaters or scratches.

So I agree with you, if it plays keep it and don't risk rocking the boat.

I have had great success with contacting them for replacement movies. Having said that. Recently, I had a credit card become compromised which had used to place several, and I mean, quite a few, pre-orders during the B1G1 Blu-ray event. Well, I had received several of the free blu's but was waiting on the pre-orders and the subsequent charges when I had to call them to change the card to which they would be charged.

Well, to make a long story short, they attempted to cancel all the remaining orders and then create a new order with the remaining movies. I still had several free movies coming, remember the free KFP offer, as well as some back-ordered movies. When I brought this up they told me that they would not be charged. Well, they were. And when I called them up, talked to a non-english speaking individual who was completely useless to me. I FINALLY got a manager who spoke fluent english who was so confused by the whole thing that she just gave me credit for three KFP Blu's and one KFP DVD. These have shipped, for free, and should arrive soon.

As for the other orders, I don't know if they are canceled or not. They still show as pre-orders and "Scheduled to Ship", even the KFP's off those orders.

So here's to hoping they are actually canceled.

I'll disagree. I expect my discs to be perfect and Columbia House is good about replacing damaged DVDs. If it is the first replacement on the account they will usually just tell you to throw out the damaged disc and will send a new one. If there is more than one DVD to be replaced, they will send a free return label as well as new DVDs, for which they charge the account. When they get the damaged DVDs back they credit the charge back to the account. Pretty simple, but it takes a few weeks.

I never understood the fear about being blacklisted. If the problem is due to a CH mistake (and we all know how poorly packaged multiple disc orders often are) they don't have a problem with fixing it. If the problem is due to the customer, "buyer's remorse" for example, that is another matter entirely. Too many returns like that and the account will get flagged eventually.

I gave them a partial pass on the latest damaged discs. I got two BDs with broken hubs (shipped loose in a huge box of course). I had them replace one and just kept the other, rather than have to mail them both back. Someday I'll come up with a replacement case for the one with a broken hub I kept. The disc was fine.

A few months back I received a floater that was so scratched up it wouldn't play right, CH replaced it no problem. But CH can be squirrelly at times and I rather not deal with any possible problems.

I'm trying to place an order to get rid of my fun cash and I get an error message saying "You don't have enough FunCash™ to apply to this order." Why is this?

They changed the FC rules awhile back. You now need to have enough FC to pay for the entire list price of the title that you wish to purchase.

So basically Fun Cash is useless now. Great. Thanks for the quick answer though.

Exactly right. Columbia House has been making funcash a progressively worse deal until it is now essentially worthless. Ignore it.

I keep one account open for long term deals. And another for cycling. I'm happy to collect fun cash in the first one and buy dvd's like touch of evil and vertigo for the cost of shipping.

I do the same thing. I keep one account that never closes. Then whenever a deal like the current B1G2 comes up any orders I make that I don't need for fulfillment go on that account. I don't generate much funcash like that, but at the end of the year I'll redeem whatever I do have for a movie.

Of course, I would never, ever order solely with the intention of generating funcash. Those days are over.

True, funcash can still be helpful.

I pretty much ignore it, didn't use it to it's full advantage back in the day when it was better. But I just used it yesterday to get a nice SE for $2.99 shipping. Like others just said, I cycle one account and keep one account open for these occasional B1G2 (or4) deals, so it occasionally ends up with lots of funcash.

Not exactly the most descriptive question.
I assume you're asking about FC usage, and not something like shipping costs.

Unfortunately, you can no longer use FC on box sets at all. Only $19.95 and above DVDs, and only for the full cost of the DVD.

Is it just me, or is the CH secure order site glacially slow today? I wonder if it is all the "Secret Sale" traffic?

My orders say "processed", what exactly does that mean? Shipped? About to be shipped?

^If you paid with a CC it means a temp charge has been applied to your card and they *may* be about to ship the order... or it could change to "backordered"... or it could ship "soon". If you check your CC you'll see the temp charge fall off and/or the regular charge appear. When this occurs it means the order has been shipped (or will by close of business) as they don't fully charge your card until an order ships. The status online will changed to "shipped" about the time the order shows up at your door. You *may* get a shipping email that day as well.

huh, that explains it at least somewhat. everything but the preordered items are showing on the charge. All orders on the site have "shipping ids". I gues I'll give it a few days to ship. thanks for the help.

A charge just showed up on my account for Kung Fu Panda, which apparently didn't get cancelled, and it was on back-order waiting to ship. First question: why would my card be charged for something that hasn't even shipped yet? Second question: when I started this membership recently, I specifically UN-checked the box that said "charge all future purchases to this card". Is this how they make money now, by intentionally ignoring instructions and doing whatever they want? Third question: why don't they have an option on the website to change billing options?

^^In a nutshell, yes... if you want cheap dvds from CH, then you have to put up with all the crap that you are going through now.

1)How do you know it hasn't shipped. Info in your online order history is unreliable if that is your source. More often than not, customers receive their order BEFORE they receive the shipping notice.

2)I have UN-checked that box too and have still been charged. They do not care and will do anything to make money, wether it's unethical or illegal. Again, refer to the first comment in this post.

3)I don't know.
