For the most part, I won't have many re-runs... maybe 2 or 3. I never even got around to watching Halloween last year (yes, blasphemy!!) so at least I know that won't be a re-run.

I'm going to try to hit mostly new films, but I also have some classics I have to hit every year. Plus, I've already invested in the movies so I'm going to rewatch the ones I like.

I guess I'm in the minority here as I like to watch some of the same movies every year. I would guess that 40% of what I watch this year will be something I've seen before.

My list will more than likely be a mix of things I've seen before plus new stuff. There are a lot of older movies that I haven't seen in a while that I'd like to revisit and this is the perfect situation for it.

My list will be all the movies I have that qualify. Same as last year, only now I have a lot more horror movies than I did then. Last year, I only had 31, but this year, I should be able to almost triple that, although I probably still won't be able to do 100, unless I break down and watch some on TV.

Since there are so many horror fans here, can anybody help me figure out what movie this is: I saw it on late night TV back in the 70s. It was b & w, I'm guessing from the 50s or 60s. All I remember is there was a group of miners/ workers in a remote desert location. They were blasting out a tunnel in a cave and unearthed an invisible monster. There was a scene where they sprinkled baking flour on the ground, making a path from the entrance of the tunnel to the house they were in. They lured the monster out of the cave and when footprints started appearing in the flour and they could see where it was they threw hatchets at it to try and kill it.

im also in the same boat since my video store just closed down and i refuse to goto blockbuster. but yeah i have about 100 horror dvds plus i know ill run across a buncha sales all month along. but i already planned on re watching my collection to re visit my favorites and give lesser enjoyed films a second chance.

I have a ton of new stuff to watch, Twisted Terror, new Midnite Movies, plus re-watching the Anchor Bay Blu-Rays. Also been saving Dawn of the Dead remake HD-DVD. I can't wait!

Pretty much all the movies I'll be watching I haven't seen before, except for a few stupid teen type ones that I know don't scare me. I have been taking advantage of recent sales and have picked up quite a few movies, and taking advantage of the netflix watch it now feature, along with rearranging and adding to my netflix list. I'm looking forward to this, I figure I'll either watch 2 or watch a lot because I won't be sleeping from watching so many of these movies, and can just watch more during that time. (Yes I realize I'm a HUGE scaredy cat)

I'm going to an HP Lovecraft film festival Oct 5-7th so I'll get at least 5 or 6 films done through that: including 35mm screenings of Carpenter's 'The Thing' and 'In the Mouth of Madness'

Dexter is a TV series with recurring characters, so it does not count. You can watch an episode and count it toward your wild card, though.

OK...one last question before the horror begins...How do Mini-series, for instance any number of Stephen King's films, count in the numbers?

I know I've had Kingdom Hospital on the back burner for about a year. It's like 12 or 13 parts, and each one is about an hour minus commercial time. Does that count at all, and if so do I count each part as one?

Then, what about a shorter mini-series that's only 2 or 3 parts like Rose Red? Do I count those overall as one or by parts?

1)Can anyone help me think of some good Foreign Horror films from Australia, Germany or any Spanish-Language ones?

2)Any musical horror films besides Rocky Horror?

3)Someone's list had the movie Hard Candy on it from a few years ago. That counts as horror?

Do the Alien and Predator movies count?

Oh, and I highly recommend any Guillermo Del Toro films, especially Devil's Backbone and Cronos, if you're looking for Spanish horror. Of course that's Mexican horror. Is Santa Sangre Spanish? If so I'd recommend it for the weirdness factor alone, though I don't think there's a R1 DVD yet.

Phantom of the Paradise, and Jekyll & Hyde with David Hasselhoff, plus there's zombies and cannibalism in the musical version of Reefer Madness that was shown on Showtime not too long ago. And let's not forget Matt and Trey's Cannibal: The Musical.

Totally forgot about Reefer Madness, which I already own, and I just cant sit through Jekyll with The Hoff again. I was there at the theatre the night they taped it. Just refuse to do it again. Totally forgot that Cannibal was already on my list. Phantom looks interesting, so I am going to add it.

Now, here is another question. We are qualifying films as those 40 minutes or longer. With that rule in mind, what about Michael Jackson's The Making Of Thriller. I'm not talking about the music video itself which clocks in around 15 minutes, but rather the home video release with the full making of. This clocks in at around 70 minutes. I don't want to qualify this as a wild card if it counts as a "full" option. Let me know what you think.

From the rules on page 1:
Horror documentaries, horror/comedies, sci-fi horror, creature features, Masters of Horror (yeah, they're considered movies) silents, made-for-TV movies, etc. count. TV shows DON'T count!

So you would have to use the MJ docu as a wild card.

I was just in the bath, thinking about how to define horror, and I came up with the following ideas:

1. A horror film must feature a struggle against a monster, usually but not always of supernatural origin..
2. A horror film must create an atmosphere of dread.
3. A horror film must create a sense of fear in the viewer.

I had been asking myself why the Blade movies didn't feel like horror films to me, despite being vampire movies, and why The Silence of the Lambs felt very much like a horror film, and I had a minor epiphany:

The Blade films were not trying to scare viewers, and TSotL was. THe Blade films have no jump scenes, no suspense, and do not create a sense of dread or fear in the viewer. Hannibal Lecter, OTOH, makes a far scarier villain than any vampire. Blade and its sequels are just action movies that happen to ave vampires as te antagonists. (That's not going to stop me fom counting them on my list in October, though.)

I think contemporary directors have blurred the distinction between horror and action movies, and they have forgotten (or never learned) that a horror film has to invoke a visceral disgust and fear in the viewer.

I lilke to call it the "Hey, get out of the room!" principle. A true horror film has to create a sense of fear that emotionally involves the viewer to the point that he finds himself shooting instructions to the characters in peril, "Hey, the mummy is right behind you. Get out of the room! Run, girl, run!"
