Hey, congrats Sabrett! I guess this means there are no last-minute arrangements or pre-wedding nerves. But does this mean you're taking horror DVDs on the honeymoon so you don't lose your lead?

Yeah -- noticed he indicated he couldn't watch any on Wednesday, but didn't say anything about Thursday, Friday or Saturday!

I'm jealous of some of these lists, and also just wonder how some you do it. I consider myself a horror lover, but I can't sit through a horror movie every night for some reason, I just get burnt out after a few days in a row, and I can't even begin to imagine 6 movies in a day.

I'm impressed, and really concerned I'm not going to hit my low goal of 31, I"m only at 3 as of today ha Plus have more red sox baseball to watch, and a week's vacation that will prob mean 0 movies unless I watch a few on the plane.

It looks like there will be a new challenge record set, what was the previous mark?

I'm insanely organized, so everything for the wedding has been set up for months. Unfortunetly, I'm in grad school, so we have to put off our honeymoon until next year. Which means I'm free to watch as many horror movies I want on Thurs, Fri, Sat, etc...

Don't you all feel bad for my soon-to-be husband?

Nope, no honeymoon until next year Definitely no pre-wedding nerves. We've been together for almost four years and I feel like we're already married. If we weren't holding off on the honeymoon until next year, I probably would bring them on the honeymoon. We went on a cruise in May, and I brought the portable DVD player and DVDs to watch when we were hanging around the ship, so ya never know

Is your hubby into horror movies as well?

My wife is not which makes this contest that much harder.

I *believe" the first year's winner had a total of 208. I won last year's with 170. If some of these people continue at this pace, they'll definitely blow the 208 out of the water.

Congrats Sabrett!!

I'm having a great time watching some horror flicks. I've told some friends about the contest and they have watched some movies with me.

Now I just need more hours in the day so that I can catch up with these horror movie watching fools

Now I've cut out my computer and 360 time. I come home and watch movies until I go to sleep. On weekends I just started watching from when I wake up until I go to sleep.

I also didn't have many movies this week that went over 90 minutes and that helped some along with not watching many crappy movies that drain the will to watch more.

After this month I still plan on watching as many as I currently do so I can clear out my awful backlog. I probably won't clear 50 a week that often but I'll get through a lot.

I definitely won't keep up my pace, just had a slow week at work, and not much else going on.

It helps that I have at least 100 unwatched horror films, 150 if you count that 50 pack I bought at Best Buy and am debating on keeping or returning.

My revised goal was 31, but now perhaps I'll hit my original goal of 100. Screw watching football, my teams are in rebuilding years anyway.

I did just finish my extra stats section "bingo card". I have everything checked off for now, but I'm sure that someone will think of more additions for me to get OCD over.

And before anyone thinks that perhaps I'm not having fun but obsessing over details, don't worry. Although I am perhaps putting too much work into my list (it's all linky and quite pretty if I do say so myself), I am having a blast finally watching all this unwatched horror in my collection. And even though I've been picking and choosing movies to fill the categories, I don't think I'm having any less fun that if I was just watching my favorites.

I may partake next year, but I won't have as much unwatched, so will probably only manage one a day or less.

I view this as a challenge, not a competition. I'd rather spend time watching a movie than looking over peoples' lists to complain about. Although I have watched an insane amount of horror (and plan to increase the amount rather than slow down), the second it becomes a chore or I feel like I have to watch one, I'll slow down. If anything, watching all these makes me want to watch more and since I am able to, I will. But I do find it humorous that someone who watched 170 movies last year (which is about 5.5 per day) finds it "hard to swallow" that someone would watch 50 in a week (about 7.1). But like I said, I'm doing this to have fun and watch more horror than the law should allow, not to worry about how far behind or ahead I am.

Just looking at some of the totals and its amazing that people can watch 40, 50 plus movies in only 8 days. I only have watched 8.

Amazing I wish I could watch 5 or more in a day. What endurance!

I just looked back and saw that steelpotato watched 223 for the first Challenge in 2005. This was doubly amazing since the second-most watched was 132, by ilikebreakdowns. I believe steelpotato is keeping it to zombie movies the year, so we'll have to see just how many of those there are.

Exactly, that's when I take a break. It's just like some days, I can play a game all day and other days I get bored and do something else. Granted, there's more participation in playing a game, but you get the idea.

I used to think the same thing, couldn't imagine more than 3-4 in a day, and that only once a month or so. But its all about choices I guess.

I chose to not open Halo 3, and to not get sucked into watching football this year. I am using much of my free time to watch movies, perhaps two a day.

Also, I'm choosing to sleep a little bit less, so that is another 1 a day.

Also, I am spending my down time at work to watch 2 or so movies a day instead of reading or surfing.

So even though I'm averaging like 6 a day so far this year, it really doesn't seem like it. I'm just shifting time from some of my other things to movies.

Hey, look at Mondo going all Joe Bob on his list. Mondo's list

Just felt like trying something new this time around!
I remember somebody else did something similar for last year's challenge, so I guess I'm just carrying the torch now.

Speaking of Joe Bob, I'm gonna pop in his Jesse James Meets Frankenstein's Daughter either today or tomorrow.

BTW, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna lift my "No rerun clause" for the next challenge. I thought my cable networks would really bail me out for my non-DVD viewings, but there's only been a total of 3 horror movies that seem to come on each night and chances are I've already seen 2 of the 3. So it's a good thing I'm not making a goal of 100 this year.

I edited my post because I really didn't feel like getting into arguments over something that is supposed to be for fun. But since it's been quoted for posterity, I guess the mudslinging will continue. I stand behind what I said. I'm sure I'm not the only person who feels the way I do. As it stands, I'm probably the only person who'll be honest enough to state my feelings.

I may have watched 170 movies last year and averaged about 5.5 but there were days when I only managed to watch 3. There was a day when I couldn't watch anything. The days that put me over the top were the days that I had off from work. One day off a week plus I had a vacation week that particular month. I watched 170 movies while maintaining a full-time job and married life with a small child. To me, THAT'S a challenge. Sitting around all day, every day watching movies because there's not much else to do isn't something I'd consider a CHALLENGE.

I look at some of these lists and seriously cannot imagine how people have managed the high numbers they list. Now don't scream at me, I'm not accusing anyone or saying anyone is a bad person, I just seriously can't imagine how some people achieve such high numbers. And Mr. Peepers, I don't think Ed was saying anyone was a bad person or even accusing you of slinging mud, if you read the reply he quoted, FusionX poked at how many movies Ed watched last year and said it was humorous that he complained about how many movies people were watching this year, even after Ed deleted his comment from his post and the matter could have rested at that. I think that's what Ed is talking about when he said people were "slinging mud" at him for his opinion. Saying "I find it hard to believe someone could watch 50 movies in one week" is not tantamount to saying "OMG U R CHEETING" or anything even close, it's a comment, and now that you've said you have a full-time job and three kids, it boggles my mind even more that you manage to squeeze in as many movies as you list. That isn't any kind of attack. I had people tell me I was lying when I said I watched 13 movies in 2 days so I know how frustrating it can be. I was pissed off at them when they said it about me, so trust me, I know how annoying it can be, but all I did is diagram for them how I fit the movies into my day and they replied "Oh, I get it now" and it ended at that. But these were people I knew in real time, not just posters on a message board (which made it more annoying for me that they thought I was lying for some strange reason). Again though, it IS just a comment, not an attack; he didn't even mention people directly or name names, he was just making a general observation, and it seems to be one a lot of people agree with if you take my friends into consideration.

For me, this is definitely a challenge. I work as a substitute teacher, so my work varies from day to day. Some days I get called to work, some days I don't. I go to grad school at night, only two days a week, and I don't have any children. On the days that I sub and go to school, believe me, you'll be able to tell from how many I end up watching that day. And if you notice, some days I didn't start watching until 1pm. Some nights I stop at 10:00pm. Today, I started early because I had the day off, and I had planned to do a marathon, but I had to take a break. I ended up watching The Jungle Book to get away from the horror for a little bit.

In the beginning of October, I don't usually work alot because of teachers not taking off a lot, thus I don't get called that much. However, as the month goes on, you will see that my movie watching will definitely decrease, and they'll mostly be watched on the weekends. But as of now, I'm able to fit a lot in, so why not?

Also, my soon-to-be husband likes horror movies just as much as I do, and we don't have kids, so it's nothing for us to cuddle up and go straight through 5-8 movies in one sitting, because we're together. I think if he didn't like them, it would be a different story.

For me, cheating in this doesn't make sense, because it is a personal challenge for me, ot a competition with anyone else. I have a lot of movies that I buy throughout the year, that I never get to watch. So, for me, I love watching movies, especially horror movies around Halloween. I don't care if I win...I want to have fun, and enjoy my movies, which is what I'm doing.

Last year I only hit 62. I watched all those in one week, and then didn't watch any for the rest of the month, because I got extremely busy, so...just because you start out strong, doesn't mean it's going to continue throughout the month.
