Disney continues to amaze :

http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/sh...on_Blu-ray/671
Disney Says No to 'Lost,' 'Badder Santa' on Blu-ray

In a late-breaking update, Disney Home Entertainment has confirmed that prior to prior reports, the studio is not planning to release either 'Lost: The Complete Third Season' nor 'Badder Santa' on Blu-ray this fall.

In the first of two major announcements for Blu-ray earlier this week, a retail announcement for an Unrated Version of 'Badder Santa' on November 20 began to appear at various retailers across the web. Some subsequent published reports also even indicated a companion HD DVD version of the title, which would mark major news for Disney as the studio currently exclusive to Blu-ray.

This was followed by a major story that originated at The Hollywood Reporter, outlining major studio plans for TV-on-DVD releases for the coming year, which were set to include a Blu-ray release of 'Lost: The Complete Third Season' on December 11.

However, Disney has confirmed today that both reports are erroneous, and neither 'Lost' nor 'Badder Santa' are currently planned for high-def release. They also reiterated that they are Blu-ray exclusive, and have no plans to support HD DVD at this time.

Great, now I'm back to 0 Disney BDs for the forseeable future (unless Cars actually comes out).

Fox and Disney are big question marks for sure. Pretty laughable how everyone was slamming Universal last January.

Warner to Rock Blu-ray, HD DVD with 'Purple Rain,' 'Out for Justice'

Warner Home Video has officially announced catalog faves 'Purple Rain' and 'Out for Justice' will both Blu-ray and HD DVD this July.

Though a rather bizarre pairing of rock legend Prince and action-meister Steven Seagal, Warner says both titles will debut on July 24.

The Blu-ray and HD DVD versions of each will feature identical specs and extras, including 1080p/VC-1 transfers and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround tracks (at 640kbps).

Mirroring its standard-def DVD counterpart, 'Out for Justice' will include only the film's theatrical trailer, while 'Purple Rain' will be packed with three retrospective featurettes, eight music videos and classic MTV coverage of the movie's 1984 premiere party.

Warner has set a list price of $28.99 apiece.

Maybe someone can explain to me how Seagal is getting so many high-def releases when other actors get none.

I kind of get the sense that Warner Bros. uses HDNet Movies as a jumping board to see movies in HiDef - now hurry up and gives us the musicals, 'My Fair Lady' and 'Camelot' (please?!)

The studios have been stockpiling HD transfers of their movies for years now. It's just that until recently, there really weren't any outlets for those HD transfers aside from channels like HDNet Movies.

I just noticed that Amazon has listings for three boxed sets from Warner coming on August 14th.

Best of Blu-ray: Vol. 1
Best of Blu-ray: Vol. 2
Best of Blu-ray: Vol. 3

Best of HD DVD: Vol. 1
Best of HD DVD: Vol. 2
Best of HD DVD: Vol. 3

They all have a list price of $84.99 and are currently discounted to $59.99. Any idea what movies these'll include?

Good question. Looks interesting. Maybe their best single disc sellers for both formats?

oh, I'm not disagreeing, but it's great to see a channel such as HDNet Movies and Warner Bros. show their library to those who get the channel. The Stanley Kubrick showcase was a treat.

I still can't edit my initial post.

However, I was thinking of an alternative chart, but as it is more work I would only start it if you think it would be any use.

It would track new theatrical releases, with Rottentomatoes and box office information, along with the eventual DVD, HD DVD and/or Blu-ray release dates. Simple.

Code:

The presentation can always be tweaked, but what I'd like to know is what you think of the content. Is it useful, or not?

oh yes I like the content, especially the Rotten Tomato rating of the film.

My wife is obsessed with the Rotten Tomato scores, and she doesn't consider 60 good enough either to bother watching, only mid-80s and up. I have no problems watching movies rated in the single digits :P

The theatrical release chart is nice, but we would still want one for catalog titles. Along with the theatrical chart, would you keep a chart for all releases, or would there be one just for catalog titles?

The catalog pool is much larger and more unwieldy, so the present release calendar will have to do.

Someone posted the Purple Rain rain blu-ray covers at AVS and it indicates both TrueHD and DD+ tracks.
