I was thinking the same thing. ![LOL](/images/smilies/lol.gif)
Discussing just the discs themselves would be fairly limiting. "Well, they're evenly round, and shiny on one side..."
I'm guessing he meant discussing other aspects of the blu-rays other than the "content" of the films themselves, i.e. discussing the extras and the image/sound quality rather than the plot, characters, effects, and changes thereof in the films.
Of course, the flaw in the argument is that nobody is stopping b2net from discussing those things. If he and others actually bothered to write posts discussing the extras and other aspects of the discs, instead of writing requests for posts like that, then an actual discussion on those topics may occur.

re: Star Wars
Okay, as someone who did not purchase this, I am curious about the 360-degree costume / prop stuff.
Are they more a behind-the-scenes type of thing or more an 'in-universe' type of thing? Are they one of the better extras?
Also, is the famous "Vader Sessions" video part of the spoofs?
Happy now?

re: Star Wars
Our downtown HMV sold out of the complete set before the release weekend was over and hasn't got any in since. There's lots of the trilogy sets still on the shelves; I wonder how many of those people are buying? What do those sets look like inside? Does anybody have any pictures of those?

re: Star Wars
That doesn't make any sense. The only people that bring up the "GL raped my childhood" stuff are the true Star Wars fans that like the real versions of the movies. SE lovers don't care and PT lovers can go either way. 99% of the people who bring this up ARE the OOT lovers.

Yes...this originated from some person or a group of people that loved the OOT years ago...but it has since been used by PT and SE lovers to bait people into arguments. As soon as someone complains about changes to the original trilogy...they are labeled as a hater or someone who thinks "GL raped my childhood" even though they most likely don't feel this way. And that's exactly how it was brought up in this very thread.

Go check out the blu-ray.com thread (at your own risk) and you'll see PT and SE apologists bring this up time and again when discussing the changes...
As I said before, I bought this set. I'm done being pissed off about Star Wars...and I can enjoy most of the films even with the shitty changes. My post was more to defend the freedom to post what we want in this forum...

re: Star Wars
You'd think that with how horribly greedy Lucas is that that would happen. He makes a few changes and charges for it. Then, a few years later, he makes a few more changes and charges for it. He keep bilking people out of their money for basically the same stuff over and over again. I just don't get why he wouldn't release the true versions of the movies and charge people yet again. Man, the money that he'd net for the real Star Wars movies ! And enough of the "the original version don't exist anymore and it would be really expensive to convert them to HD." The original version DO exist in HD. He had to restore the movies before he started making changes. Just put out the pre-changes transfer, and we'll be happy.

The refusal of releasing the OOT is a seperate issue, as he is a jerk for not doing that. But to continue to release and re-release the SW movies in every new format is par for the course in home video.

re: Star Wars
I just noticed another change. In the very beginning of Star Wars, C3PO says "we'll be destroyed fo' sho'" kind of an outdated phrase already but I understand the change.

re: Star Wars
I noticed they re-did the burns on Vader's head in his meditation chamber scene on Episode V, probably to better match Episode III.
I'm still wondering what those separate trilogy sets look like on the inside. Does anybody have pictures?

re: Star Wars
It's nonsense that he says the original versions of the films don't exist anymore and he have to spend way too much to restore them. He already restored them when he made the special edition versions. He HAD to restore them to add the crappy effects and make all the horrible changes.
http://secrethistoryofstarwars.com/savingstarwars.html
Basically, they recomposited the opticals from the original elements, instead of restoring the original negative of these opticals, then spliced the new composites in, permanently losing a few frames in the process for each splice.
Some digtially-enhanced shots were scanned from interpositives, leaving these negative parts of the original negative unrestored, and spliced into the negative when finished.
So there's no fully-restored original version, and the existing negative is a hybrid of different sources.
Now the article goes into ways in which the original version of the films could still be restored, but the work hasn't already been done, at least not completely.
You just know that Lucas has the original versions of the movie in perfect quality. He's said that the original elements don't exist anymore. But wouldn't he have had to restore the movie first BEFORE he added all the nonsense to them to make the "Special Editions"?

re: Star Wars
As for myself, I don't care how many times George Lucas re-releases the films. All I care about is whether I can get the versions I want in a high-quality copy. So far, the answer has been no.
