re: Star Wars
I would LOVE to know how many pre-orders have been cancelled.
I really hope it's enough to make Lucas take notice (even though (A) it won't make a difference and (B) he may just think he's better off because he knows how in demand the originals just became).

re: Star Wars
Based on just those that post to all the forums worldwide, how would he not recoup the investment?
This would be a DAY 1 purchase for me that dare I say I would even pay MSRP of probably what $89.99 for say just the original trilogy restored? I imagine most here would as well, and I'm guessing at that MSRP it would probably be about $50 on release day. Unless you are talking more than say $10 million or so(you said a "couple") I don't see how he would not. And mind you I would buy the complete saga as well to have the PT and all the extras. Just as long as I knew I could also get, albeit seperately the UOT.

Yeah but then people wouldn't buy the BS 2011 versions. By doing this, he's making it so you'll buy them now and then the restored originals in 10 years. So he's selling tons of us (and yes, I'm one of the retards that will buy both, as well as the 3d versions when those come out) a version we don't really want. He's doubling his money all from the same product.
The only way to have done it would have been to release both versions of each movie in the set at double the cost. I promise you though that sales would have been cut in half and people would be bitching about the cost.
The way he's doing it will keep him a money flow for the next 15+ years:
• Altered movies in HD - blu-ray (2011)
• Altered movies in HD - digital downloads (2012 or 2013)
• Altered movies in 3D - theaters (2012-2018)
• Altered movies in 3D - blu-ray (2019 or individually released each year through 2019)
• Originals restored in HD to blu-ray - 2020
• Originals restored in 3D to blu-ray - 2022
I'm telling you, this is all part of the plan.

The thing is, Lucasfilm said they were working on this for years, and that they had fixed the most commonly complained about errors.
Now, it ends up that most of those errors are still there, but they spent time making Wicket blink and adding a CGI rock.

Ive noticed that people say they want what they seen 30+ years ago, while at the same time want "simple clean ups and to fix errors". Cant have both.

I'd be happy with the original movie cleaned up, touched up, even modernized... but I won't take all the other shit that goes along with it.

Personally, I would like to see the originals with some subtle corrections, but no new effects added, if that makes sense. In other words, keep the look of the original effects, but fix little mistakes and blemishes. And offer the original and remixed soundtracks.

There is a difference between that and adding in new dialog or a 3 minute song & dance sequence.

re: Star Wars
The "NOOOO" sealed the deal for me. Cancelled my preorder. I'm done. That was the worst cheesiest moment in Revenge of the Sith and now they've brought that over into the climax of Jedi?? Over and out.
That Citizen Kane package is looking better and better every day.

re: Star Wars
As for a possible poll...I'd rather have the originals with all the mattes, errors, etc. Sure, these things might stand out in HD...but that wouldn't stop me from watching them as long as the audio is solid and not the compressed stereo track from the '06 bonus discs. I'd take the originals with LPCM stereo in all its glory any day of the week.
Ideally, we would get this "Blade Runner" style and have all the cuts. That would be f'n awesome.

re: Star Wars
I can't believe their promotion is leading with "Look- we fixed the lightsaber shots!" when the shots they previewed are practically the only ones they fixed. Did the the Lucasfilm marketing department just come back from the "How To Anger Your Customers Unnecessarily" conference?

I'll be very surprised if we see the full saga in 3D...

re: Star Wars
I guess I got alteration fatigue earlier than most. I didn't bother picking up the original trilogy DVDs until this past year, when I finally bought the slim-pack trilogy on the cheap to have the unaltered originals on disc (even in crappy quality).
I've always loved Star Wars, but have never been a hyper-obsessive fan nor have I ever intimated that George Lucas is any kind of rapist. I simply prefer the original trilogy with all of its original issues. I probably will not get the Blu-ray box set. At least not until it drops in price considerably, when I might buy it for the extras.

Well FWIW...over on the Amazon boards they are ripping this a major "A-Hole". I'm willing to bet that Amazon has never had to deal with a cancellation of this magnitude before.
As they say..."Sh#t rolls down hill"...and I'm sure the Lucas Ranch will be getting it soon and has plenty of space for it"
