The change is pretty terrible to be fair, completely kills that scene. Plus Lucas is a selfish bastard who expects his fans to flock like sheep to whatever he puts out (which many do sadly) and doesn't give two craps what anyone else thinks when he could easily satisfy himself and give fans the option of both versions of the films. Fuck him.

re: Star Wars

I can only speak for myself, but the reason I am not getting this set is just a combination of all the bullshit that has gone on since 1997 with the OT movies, and finally I've smartened up and realized this is enough.

Even as Lucas was making more changes to the OT movies in 2004, I wasn't as soured as I am now. I honestly would feel 'dirty' if I bought this set, almost to the point where I have it in the back of my mind that Lucas is laughing his ass of at me that he got me again as I walk out of BestBuy with the BluRay set. I have never felt like that before on previous releases.

It's really sad how much I have changed towards the movies in a span of the last 10-15 years. If this set was announced in 1995, I would be there day one and would be counting the days right now. But now everytime something new in SW is announced, I always think of all the bullshit that will accompany it, and the NOOOO change along with the failure to release the OOT just confirmed what I suspected would happen.

Like the lightsabres issue that everyone is whining about, I didn't notice "Yoda as a puppet" either.

Again, I guess I was just too busy watching the movie to notice.

Still have my preorder at DD for about $65, so I'll probably still get this even though I'm not happy about George's continued tampering. The price is basically $60 plus tax, and I doubt we'll see it for much less in the foreseeable future.

I really doubt that boycotting this release will force Lucas to stop fucking with the films or even convince him to release the original versions.

I would wager that he makes more money from merchandizing than from the movies themselves.

Remember, this is the guy who had a marketing campaign -- toys, novels, comic books, video games, trading cards, and a soundtrack album -- for a Star Wars movie that didn't even fucking exist.

So because it's an issue that you don't notice or care about it's whining?

I too have never noticed or cared about the lightsaber colors but I sure as hell know that Hayden never appeared in the movies I grew up watching. I know Vader doesn't speak a word when he finally nuts up and kills the Emperor. I won't even get into ruining Han's intro and taking all suspense out of Jabba's intro by shoehorning him into ANH.

I agree with this even unless the boxset sales were terrible. But the SW fanbase is so huge, that there are enough fans that will buy any SW product to offset fans like me who are boycotting.

I would be very suprised if the overall sales numbers after the first few weeks were noticeably down compared to other movie franchises on BluRay. I would love to see this set tank, but I still believe my boycott really won't make a difference.

In the end, boycotting this boxset is more about me not handing Lucas another dime to save some of my self respect!

Exactly. The people not buying this set are doing so for their own reasons and not as part of some worldwide campaign to stick it to him. People are just sick of spending the money on these things they won't enjoy. Simple as that.

That's the sad thing....most people who buy this set will be blissfully unaware of any changes which may have been made, or they won't even care. They see "Star Wars" on something, they buy it. New dialog? Blinking Ewoks?? Huh???

I'd still like to see them make that movie. An animated adaptation of Shadows of the Empire would be pretty neat in my opinion.

Personally, I don't mind buying SW products that don't suck. Like the Clone Wars season sets and certain video games. I'm just done buying the movies until they're done right.

re: Star Wars

I'm definitely curious if the SW 3D versions will have more changes, besides the 3D. I still can't believe they plan to put all six movies through theaters again, I know it's SW, but still.

A bit OT, but I was looking at some Blade Runner clips on youtube and saw one with the unicorn running dream flashback at the end with the paper unicorn - I don't think the theatrical or final cut had that unicorn dream at the end, was that in the DC or workprint?

re: Star Wars

Empire Strikes Back is my favorite of the SW series, and Return of the Jedi second, but mostly for the final confrontation between Luke and Vader. I could care less about the other films.

Considering that the Luke/Vader battle is the highlight of that film, I'm not going to buy it if it's been altered for the worst.

Yup, it was in the DC.

re: Star Wars

Well, for all the accusations of reselling the movies again and again, the facts are they were never redone more than once for DVD, repackaged a few times of course, but the movie transfers where the same. So, love em or hate em this is it until a 40th anniversary release in 2017. Stick with your laserdiscs or dvds if you want, but I'm not giving up six years, I'm still pumped for this set... I don't think I'll be a taking Friday off or anything, but I'll be racing over to Best Buy or Target after work and doing a SW wknd... two a night probably. Now I just need some fun SW snack ideas...lol.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind a movie either if it was primarily an artistic endeavour. I also agree that Lucas' motive behind making that series was not story but profit.

re: Star Wars

I wa off today the it's been raining for two days straight. So I decided to ull out my 2004 DVD Trilogy set and go thru all three movies. I haven't seen them since we got the new TV...a Sony 52" Z5100..two years back nor with the new Yamaha AVR (671) we got two months ago.

I must say all three wer still fun to be seen and heard. The upscale from the Sony 360BDP made the DVD's come to life though the first one had a bit more visable grain especially day scenes with blue sky. Sound was pretty good and the rears actully got a workout. The older D.D 5.1EX still did a fairly good job.

It was fun to watch not only how much the charaters grew but the actors also. Most noticable was Mark Hamill/Hans Solo. Also comparing Darth Vader from the moment he stepped on the "Trasport" of the first movie to his end in ROTJ. Also was just how well the SPX had changed and gotten better over the three films.

Not sure just how well or great this BR set will be but the 2004 Trilogy set still had some gas and excitement going for it. I maybe up for the first three of the SW saga in BR form. A fun ride today.

re: Star Wars

I felt dirty buying the 2004 DVDs, and watched them about once in 7 years. No way I am doing it again. I was born in 1977, and vaguely remember seeing ESB in the theaters. I definitely remember seeing ROTJ on the big screen and this mutilation is the straw that broke the camel's back for me with Star Wars. I have no interest in the prequels.

Its a shame because I literally grew up watching VHS' taped off HBO of all the movies. Uuugh.

re: Star Wars

I remember the "silent Vader" being a selling point of one the last releases of the VHS.

This is interesting video:

You can see the roots of trouble growing IMHO. People that stand outside of theaters. Check. The Stubins from Pennsylvania living in a fantasy land. Check. Oh well.
