Re: Breaking Bad -- The Complete Series -- 11/26/13

They were in stock on Amazon for literally 10 minutes or so last night. Price was $201.96. I got my order in, and when I refreshed the item page immediately after, it was out of stock. I wonder if they got a few more in, or if they found one somewhere in a warehouse and I got lucky.

I was so upset when I thought I had missed out. I feel better now.

The focal point of the documentary is the production of episodes 509 to 516. I watched through the making of 510. Really liked seeing how Cranston becomes Walt with the makeup and seeing him direct. He's a really cool director. Very open to feed back from the writers as the documentary showed.

The table read was also an interesting watch. It's interesting to see how intense the actors are reading the script in character not dressed up and casually sitting at the table with the cameras rolling.
I also watched this last night but I didnt buy the box (found other means of watching). I was really looking forward to this documentary and was pretty disappointed in it. All it really was is all the cast and crew going on and on about how great it is working with everyone blah blah and showing each main cast members final scene and being presented with an autographed picture of themselves. Was not impressed. I was expected in depth looks at the production of the last season, not so much fluff.

I've seen stacks of this set at HMV stores up here. The downside is, I think there's some French on the packaging.

I haven't fully inspected the packaging but the ones I've seen here didn't have noticeable French, maybe some smaller prints? Definitely not the kind of offensive stuff we're used to see.

I bought a "back-up" copy in case I don't find a better price on Boxing Day. I'll have to check out HMV stores in my area then, I wasn't sure they had any more in stock since it disappeared from their website.

yeah I was disappointed as well. FAR too many higher up executives given face time in this documentary.

Yeah, I didn't look closely at the ones I saw, so you're probably right.

I noticed the website no longer had it, but the HMV closest to my house had at least 10 just the other day. Could be sold out by now, but it didn't look like they were moving that fast...

Re: Breaking Bad -- The Complete Series -- 11/26/13

It's a matter of opinion, but I don't think the documentary was all self serving kiss ass to everyone who worked on the show.

They went into pretty good detail on production of episodes 509 through 516 including scenes shot in the writer's room with Vince and his staff, the table reads, makeup and the actual location shoots. And then we got to see Cranston direct as well as how they edited the show.

If anything, a lot of positive commentary from the production staff and actors showed what a close group of people these people became over Breaking Bad's 5 year run. They became a large family.

I mean it showed it was a positive work experience and Vince was a great leader and showrunner. I mean if you didn't enjoy hearing that Breaking Bad was a positive experience behind the scenes, then I don't really don't know what you all were expecting.

I'm with DJ on this. It's a great documentary from the heart, and it shows plenty of production footage from the last few episodes.

I don't think it's that at all. It sounds like every other "series ending" documentary/episode that popular or long-running shows tend to have, more like a "look back" with some behind the scenes stuff.

Most fans were probably expecting a full-encompassing documentary on the series as a whole, not just the last 8 episodes. If the series never gained the traction it did during the first half of Season 5, I doubt Sony would've bothered putting up the money to produce a doc like this anyway. My guess is that there really wasn't behind the scenes stuff for the first few seasons, which to me would've been way more interesting seeing the progression of the show.

Yeah, that's great but it would've been awesome to have seen some behind the scenes stuff during Season 4 (the show's best, IMO) or like I said, during the earlier seasons. The problem with that is footage probably doesn't exist.

Yeah, I watched the doc too, and I was pretty bored by it. I wasn't expecting an all-series-encompasing look at the show, but some more nuts & bolts would've been interesting. It was too sycophantic to be interesting.

I just ordered this set for $110 Canadian plus tax. The thing is backordered so I'm not sure whether I will get it or not. We'll see...

More and more tempted to just pick up the individual seasons when they hit $9.99.

Thanks! That was my guess as well but for some reason I couldn't seem to find it (probably because of the lack of artwork). I paid $183 for it but I wouldn't mind having it cheaper.

Re: Breaking Bad -- The Complete Series -- 11/26/13

I've just tried getting a hold of the Cineplex customer service to get a bit more info on how "backorders" are handled and when I should expect to hear back, but they pretty much have no customer service.

I think I'm probably better off with keeping the more expensive copy I got and try to move this sale one should it ever arrive.

Re: Breaking Bad -- The Complete Series -- 11/26/13

Well... I caved.
Found 3 copies at my local Wal-mart. It was priced at $220 CAD, but I checked the Walmart.ca website, which had it for $198. Oddly, pricematching was a bit of an ordeal (Wal-mart B&M matching Walmart.ca...), but they got it done, and I now own one copy. There's two more, if any of you folks want to fly up here, endure our flash freezing weather, and buy a copy at the second-sketchiest Wal-mart in town.

edit: oh, and Giancarlo Esposito will be at the local comic expo here in April. I'm definitely getting him to sign my barrel.

...I'd get that one for sure. At the right price. The barrel was too expensive.

Nice - that looks like the UK box but without the ugly ratings graphics. I will buy this one for sure.
