I watched a couple Voyager episodes last night and got nostalgic. This will be a welcome return.

I'm a HUGE trek fan and I still have no interest in this stupid idea for a movie. I think I'll enjoy that youtube clip more than this train wreck of a movie.

I still don't know how Abrams can pull it off. Even if it is a good script, pulling people in that aren't fans of the original and don't like the idea of Trek.

Ummm what??

Shatner's Kirk not aboard for new `Trek'

LOS ANGELES - The original Capt. Kirk is disheartened he won't get to boldly go anywhere with his old pal Spock in the new "Star Trek" movie.

While Leonard Nimoy is reprising his role as the pointy-eared Vulcan in next year's science-fiction flick, William Shatner is not on board as Kirk.

"I couldn't believe it. I'm not in the movie at all. Leonard, God bless his heart, is in, but not me," Shatner, 76, told The Associated Press on Thursday. "I thought, what a decision to make, since it obviously is a decision not to make use of the popularity I have to ensure the movie has good box office. It didn't seem to be a wise business decision."

I don't get it. Are you shocked he's not in it, or shocked he beleive's he's a necessary part to ensure a "good business decision"?

I'm guessing Shatner wanted too much money to make a cameo appearance.

Or maybe it is because the Kirk character is dead (according to film/tv show canon). We also know that Spock lives a lot longer. Maybe it is Spock looking back...

My vote is that this is all a big marketing joke... and he will indeed be in it.

Have you watched some of the original cast DVD (Voyage Home...) extras? He seems a bit full of himself. I would not be surprised if Paramount overlooked him.

So are we then to just forget about Generations? or (as I explained to Brannon) are we still in the nexus?

Not really a fair statement. Afterall, the man is James T. Kirk!

As for the other comment about the ST:IV comments - that was 20+ years ago! Plus, if you watch that Mind Meld dvd you'll see another side, which I would argue shows he has matured.

I thought I touched in this in another post in this thread, but I would gladly accept the following conversation:

Spock: Captain, it is agreeable to see you again after that incident of unpleasantness.

Kirk: Yeah, that was a bitch, wasn't it?

Twenty years, my God it just doesn't feel like it has been that long. I should cut the guy some slack.

I can almost assure everyone that Shatner's comments were taken out of context. I'm guessing his tongue was firmly in cheek when he commented on what a big box office draw he is...but it doesn't come off that way in text. Shatner's well-known for his humorous boasting - and it's gotten him in trouble with his co-stars in the past.

I'm sure he doesn't have any hard feelings against JJ, if indeed he's not in the movie (as others have mentioned, this smells like a press "plant" by Shatner - so fans will be suprised when he pops up at the end of the film in a cameo).

Yep. Shatner is totally aware of the public image of him being "full of himself" and intentionally, and dryly, plays it up whenever possible. I think it's hilarious (as it's intended to be), but others fall for it hook, line and sinker.

Um who says they can't be flashing back just after trek 6, or right before generations movie.......I mean seriously calling kirk dead is just silly excuse. Beside we all know the borg came to that planet in generations and brought him back to life, come on now. Which by the way should've been the movie they made, not this stupid story line, there was a reason the idea sat around for nearly 30 years without them using it.

You sure it's an act? When I saw him at a convention in the mid 70's he told everyone to put there hands down because he was still speaking.

Hmmmmmmmmm.

Greenwood shipshape in new 'Trek'
By Borys Kit and Carly Mayberry
Nov 8, 2007

Bruce Greenwood has been cast as Christopher Pike, the Starship Enterprise's first captain, in J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" feature for Paramount.

The character of Capt. Pike appeared in the original unaired pilot that Gene Roddenberry created. The pilot was rejected by CBS and then shown to NBC, which turned it down, though it liked the concept enough to commission a second pilot. (Only the character of Spock survived the redevelopment.)

Pike was later weaved back into Star Trek lore as the ship's first captain and appeared in a two-part episode.

Abrams' "Trek" is expected to start shooting this month. It is understood that the movie chronicles the early days of the Enterprise crew.

Greenwood, repped by Gersh and Binder Entertainment, plays two roles in Todd Haynes' "I'm Not There" and appears in "National Treasure: Book of Secrets."
