I do this with my wife too, but as a joke. Everytime I see the trailer on tv I talk about how we have to go see it. I'm serious about seeing it, but joking with her. She's about ready to punch me.

Man, I'm pretty pissed. I live in Philadelphia and there is one Imax theater showing The Dark Knight on the 17th at midnight (and 3AM). The moment fandango messaged my Blackberry telling me tix were available, I immediately mass-mailed my roommates/friends asking who was in. I KNEW tix wouldn't last long, so I wanted a response ASAP (this was last Friday).
Sure enough, I didn't get confirmation until Sunday night that only three of us would be going. Here's the deal with my annoying-ass friends... a lot of them are not going to go to a midnight show (which I completely understand). Hell, I wasn't too keen on the idea, I was fine seeing it Friday night. But they couldn't even commit to that! ("I don't know... I can't plan for something that far in advance, blah blah blah, bitch bitch bitch). So if I couldn't get even a firm confirmation that Friday was a go, well then fuck it, midnight Thursday it is. I go to purchase the tix on-line on Monday. Well damn it all to hell if I wasn't right about the fast sell-out: Nothing available.
Now I'm a massive Batman fan, have been since I was six and I read my first comic book (A Death in the Family issue 3). My friends know this. My roommates DEFINITELY know this (posters, the occasional statue, etc.). The fact that their indecisiveness cost me an IMAX showing opening night on what - at long last - promises to be the perfect film adaptation of the Dark Knight will not soon be forgotten. Regardless, the three of us who had intended to go are still going to the midnight show, only in a regular DLP theater (bleh) and I will, of course, be doing up the IMAX when we all go (whenever these lazy pricks decide that it is now time to make a decision).
My question to all of you is this: The internet community is the only place in which I can find rivals to my Batman obsession (or should I rather say brothers-in-arms, fellow compatriots?) who can objectively answer this... am I selling out by not seeing it IMAX first? Should I have waited? (Keep in mind, no answer will STOP me from seeing it at the midnight show, I just want to know if this signals a long-in-coming, slow-to-be-adopted fall from film-and-Batman-perfectionist (read: NERD) grace? Already I have more Batman stuff in storage than out on display, I don't purchase DVDs nearly as much as I used to, I barely keep up with even the few comic titles I presently read, and I've discovered that I value vagina a lot more than how awesome my house rates on the Bat-scale.
It's a sad day for me... although I'm sure after The Dark Knight my geekiness will be in rare form. Cheers.

You are correct. Hindsight, and all that. But that's a woulda/coulda kind of thing. I should still go to the regular midnight showing, though, correct?

1 - Doubt the lady friend would appreciate that
2 - If you can find me a random hot chick who will accept, upon first introduction, an invitation to go see The Dark Knight in an IMAX theater full of zealots at midnight on opening night, I will promptly marry her.

WEAK! What movie did your IMAX feel was more deserving of the spot?

Our IMAX doesn't show "new" movies, they show what was released in IMAX 2 months prior. IE - Speed Racer just showed up.

Oh, awesome. Show a huge flop when the biggest movie of the summer (which actually has scenes shot IN the IMAX format) is coming up. Brilliant marketing decision.

How do you think I feel? Haha.
To their credit, at least it's there. It isn't like a Regal, it's a science center so it is sort of a given they'd get the movies second hand.

Ah, well actually that makes much more sense. The Franklin Institute here in Philly (awesome place, although they insist on calling themselves "The Franklin" now, which I say is "The Retarded") has an IMAX theater, although it's one of the Omni, Globe-shaped ones. They DO show theatrical releases from time to time, but as you say, mostly in the later-runs of said picture.
Man, your town's hurtin' for a multiplex! Start that sucker up! I've been dying for Philly to get one of those "Adult" (Not porn) theaters where children aren't allowed and they serve alcohol... although it IS Philadelphia, so halfway through, every movie is apt to get ruined by stupid, drunken asshole renditions of the Eagles Fight Chant...
