I'm shocked this isn't opening 4th of July weekend. I would think they would get a greater return money wise doing so. Of course we all know this will make mad money no matter when it opens.

I'm pretty sure WB wanted this film to stand out by not being lumped into the normal Memorial Day to July 4th window of summer blockbusters. By having this later on, it truly stands out amongst its competition (Hellboy, X-Files) rather than having just a week in the spotlight had it been competing with Indy, Iron Man, Hulk and Wall-E.

There was a link to the first five minutes that I saw the other day. If it was real it was quite underwhelming. I just have a bad feeling about this movie, I think it will be just OK>

Yeah I hear you man. I made the mistake of trying that promotional Indiana Jones burger at Burger King.

No more movie tie-in meals for me.

I'm sure the fact it isn't a light summer fun ride type of movie also played a factor in wanting to push it to a point where most of those kinds of films had already opened and made their money and audiences may be ready for something heavier..
This might have been the perfect movie to have released in September in advance of Halloween. Just like 300 shattered perceptions about Spring releases, I think this could have been the film to do it in the fall. What would they have sacrificed at that point-repeat middle school business?

Yeah cause that's the only alternative

Why is that every single time the PG-13 vs. R discussion comes up people only see two alternatives. Ridiculously tame of ridiculously violent.

The same with weight discussions, there's only sickingly skinny or morbidly obese.

Why doesn't middle ground exist on the internet....?

Back on topic; fuck you all for getting to see this a whole week before me

Good points NitroJMS and Paul_SD. Never thought of that. I'm so used to blockbuster movies opening during holidays and such. But yeah while The Dark Knight is a blockbuster, it's not a normal one. Definetely a special kind of movie which seems to have alot of depth.

You saw the Prologue most likely. Big difference.
And all reviews point to this movie being more than "just OK". To each his own tho'.

One little snippet of a review at RT:

"Martin Scorsese's The Departed. Michael Mann's Heat. Brian de Palma's The Untouchables. And now, Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight can join the ranks as one of the best crime dramas in modern movie history."

Uh...

I completely agree with the bolded part. The Departed is a great film. I'd rank it much higher than The Untouchables.

?? The Departed is one of my all-time favorites, but it is sometimes overrated. I think the reviewer is simply saying those movie are great crime dramas, just as (he thinks) The Dark Knight. A lot of reviews have said its a great character-driven crime epic, only with a guy in face paint and a batsuit as the leads. I'll wait until I see it, but I don't think its a fair assumption to say that reviewer is crazy....at least not yet.

I love The Departed. It's one of my favorite films. But it's far from Scorsese's greatest crime drama. That's how I took the quote to mean.

Here's the oh-so badass Wizard World Trailer:

What is the prologue? Is it part of the actual movie? It was clearly real movie footage but seemed poorly edited.

I LOVE Batman and thought Batman Begins was terrific. Dark Knight is getting huge amounts of hype, but so far what I have seen in the previews and trailers just is not resonating with me and the "prologue" just did not work.

I truly, truly hope I am wrong and Dark Knight lives up to the hype. Maybe it is because of the bits I have seen, unlike many, the Joker portrayal seems off, rather than the revelation people are expecting.

I hope I am surprised. I would love nothing more than for Dark Knight to be the pinnacle of the SuperHero movies, I just have this gut feeling that it will just not be that good.

The "prologue" is the opening of the film. I've confirmed this with people who have seen it.

Really? That's great. I remember when there was talks of it not being in the movie, so..

Off compared to what? The source material (comics) the Joker is just as sadistic (even more so) than this movie is portraying him.

To each his own tho'.
I personally can't wait for this movie.

In the comics, the Joker is snazzy dresser. His make up is perfect and his knives are way more expensive.
