The Dark Knight (Batman Begins 2) Discussion - Part 2

I'm so impressed at the characters that Nolan has developed in this. Both the Joker and Harvey are incredibly hard to keep your eyes off. They just look so unique yet fit in perfectly with the world Nolan created for Batman. It's hard for me to even see Heath behind that Joker makeup.

Finally caught a screening, it's a pretty fucking amazing movie. I do have some issues with it (which I won't mention until after it opens) but as a whole it's probably the best superhero movie ever made. Heath Ledger is beyond incredible, I'll be astounded if he doesn't snag an Oscar for it (which I hope is viewed solely as a nod to his immense acting talent and not as a feel-good gesture...if anyone deserves it for their craft this year, it's him).

Just saw an IMAX screening of the film. Christopher Nolan did a Q&A afterwards. I asked how they would handle the IMAX portions on home video. He said that on Blu-ray, he's going to have the 35mm footage in 2.40:1, and the IMAX footage will be 1.77:1, as I theorized.
As for the film itself, wow. It took all of my considerable expectations, shattered them, spit on the remains, and then crafted something I never could have imagined, and it's so much better than what I expected. The film is dark. I can't overstate how dark. And not dark in a fun Empire Strikes Back kind of way, but dark in a way that you walk out wondering how Nolan got that script greenlit. Also, make no mistake: This is not an action movie. It's an urban crime drama all the way. This is a movie about people, and the choices they make, and the way a single fly can gum up all the works. Despite all the rave reviews the film has been getting, I sincerely wonder how it will play to the mass audiences. This isn't Batman Begins 2. It's a whole new beast.
Edit: Also, regarding Heath--while I did love every minute of his performance, no one would be talking Oscar if he hadn't died. I should probably get my flame suit on, but I think the best performance was Gary Oldman's. He grounded the film.

Supermallet.... I want to hate you very much... but I can't. It's like when my roommate from CT was going nuts after the Giants trashed the Patriots. I wanted to punch him, but I couldn't. Because 1 - Fuck the Patriots. But 2 - As an Eagles fan, I know what that wait is like (still stuck in the middle of my own private Championship-less hell) and all I could do was sort of enjoy it vicariously through someone who had wandered 40 years in the desert and come out victorious.
That being sad, Fuck yourself for including a spoiler... the little clickable bastard is sucking my curser toward it like a black hole, and I'll now have to let it get further up the page and out of mind before I come back to this thread![Wink](/images/smilies/wink.gif)

Gary Oldman is so fantastic as Gordon. The entire cast for this franchise is (or looks to be) great (sans KH).

Thanks for the review. The movie sounds great. It seems like the best thing since Heat.

But it's only a movie (ducks.....and runs)
I can't wait for this. I have that same excitement i had when i first saw the first batman opening night in 1989. Now i'm just talking about the excitement not comparing those two films. Back then there was rarely any superhero/comic book movies. There was Superman...umm..Howard The Duck?
These days I've been spoiled with many DC/Marvel movies, good and bad.So for me to muster that same excitement says alot.

I've been thinking about this lately. I think what I'll have to do is withdraw from public. Perhaps do some traveling. DEFINITELY get a new job. Certainly go find myself somewhere.
Or, sit around talking about how awesome the movie is while inhaling copious amounts of herb with my roommates.
Dunno, play it by ear, but definitely one of those two.
