Yup, the most recent negative proclaims it's the worst Batman yet, including Batman and Robin.

Rex Reed went from calling Batman Begins "this is a movie for morons" to calling The Dark Knight "insurmountable fun".. I'm not a fan of the guy but that is kind of interesting. The other New York Observer guy, Andrew Sarris, also gave it a rave review. The New York Daily News also gave it kudos.

I can understand fans wishing it weren't so, but this Joker hasn't been seen before.

That and the fact that he thinks Begins is the worst of them all, even Batman & Robin. There's no defending that moronic stance.

Eh to each their own. Another negative review from New York (The New York Press, Armond White - who seems to hate any semi-serious comic book movie, or anything that isn't satirical). This one is noteable to me for one reason:
The Black Dahlia? Really? He must be proud that his superior intellect let him enjoy that one on a level invisible to just about everybody else.
As in Memento, Nolan shows rudimentary craft; his zeitgeist filmmaking—morose, obsessive, fussily executed yet emotionally unsatisfying—will only impress anyone who hasn’t seen De Palma’s genuinely, politically serious crime-fighter movie, The Black Dahlia.

Yeah I gotta agree here. I read the Novelization of NML and Joker was a true Fucker. Just ask Jim Gordon....
Of the few Joker stories I've read over the years he's been a truly scary character.

Stop telling me my business, noob. My point is that the Joker's portrayal in this film is exactly the image I had in my head from reading 20 years of Batman comics. If it's something entirely alien to YOUR impression of the Joker, that's fine. I'm simply stating that it isn't the case for us all, savvy?

Over on HTF there's a theory that since the negative reviews were mostly coming from New York-based critics only, that it's a slight case of bias against the film considering Batman and Gotham City were New York-inspired. Since the film was made in Chicago instead, it may have left them with a bit of bitterness. There may be nothing to that theory, but maybe there is...?

I was wondering this myself... then I remembered that New Yorkers are, by and large, dicks.
