Valkyrie looks good, has got a great cast, and a very good director. Sadly its a PG-13 WAR MOVIE and that kills most of the interest for me.
I think this has been a pretty weak year in terms of American films. Besides the Dark Knight, Miracle at St. Anna, and Snow Angels (yep If they are in my top 5 favorite movies of the year it seems like the new rule is we get really really shitty dvd releases of said films.) there hasnt been a whole hell of a lot that was impressed me a great extent.
Other really good films: The fall, Iron Man, Funny Games, Recount.
But sadly I'd say most of the films fell into the "meh" category.

I'd have to agree, we've seen a lot of just really solid, entertaining fillms this year (starting around May with Iron Man, which didn't live up to the hype for me but it was still damn good).
As for Director, and this is going purely off reviews, I think Danny Boyle has a better shot right now.
For the remainder of the year:
Slumdog Millionaire, Gran Torino, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Australia, Milk, Frost/Nixon, Seven Pounds, The Wrestler, The Brothers Bloom, Revolutionary Road, Valkyrie, and Defiance
And that shot in the oscar ad is great.

I think Nolan will probably get neglected in the glut of films coming out in the coming weeks, which is a damn shame, because Dark Knight is still the best film of the year for me, and Nolan's direction in it is absolutely masterful.

It made no sense.
The Joker was trying to kill Dent, and so he wastes two RPGs blowing up the cop car in front of it before Batman magically comes to the rescue? It was a huge hole in the movie that bugged me more every time I watched it.
I'll just leave it at this: Some cinephiles are more discriminating than others.

The Joker was hanging out of a rough-riding semi at high speed and was having trouble aiming, not to mention Gordon's superb driving . It was obvious that he was about to hit the armored truck when Batman sped the Tumbler and sacrificed it to save Dent.
Maybe some cinephiles are more discriminating, but others are more perceptive. The scene made perfect sense as shot... if that one little piece was a HUGE hole that bugs you that much, well, I really don't know what to tell you. Maybe action flicks just aren't for you.

What movie were you watching? Batman "Magically" came to the rescue? I think not.

Seven Pounds? Really? Don't you think the Academy will see right through Will Smith's ploy for an Oscar yet again? This one doesn't even look as interesting as Pursuit of Happyness, which I thought was not very good as it was.

Warner to re-release 'Knight' Jan. 23
Film could become fourth to gross over $1 bil
Warner Bros. will re-release "The Dark Knight" on Jan. 23 in a nationwide launch, guaranteeing that it will become the fourth film to take in more than $1 billion in worldwide box office.
"Knight" has cumed $530.3 million domestically and $465.9 million internationally, leaving it less than $4 million short of the billion-dollar milestone. Only "Titanic," "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" have topped that mark.
"Knight" also is the second-highest domestic grosser of all time, trailing only "Titanic."
The re-release will come six weeks after the DVD launch of "Knight," set for Tuesday.
Dan Fellman, president of Warner's domestic distribution, made the announcement Thursday. "We wanted to provide one more opportunity for moviegoers to experience it on the bigscreen as it was meant to be seen," he added.

Didn't catch this on Imax, but maybe will this time.
I only saw Dark Knight once, and I enjoyed it, but find it to be hugely overrated. Best film of the year? Some say the best film of all time? I still find Spider-Man 2 to be a better film than Dark Knight.
Now, if they would only bring "Boogie Nights" to the Imax, I'll be there everyday.
