Let me attempt to stand up for some people, even though I do think many take it overboard. Many get "best" and their favorite mixed up. Personally, though, I don't think there is a "best" movie since everything is so subjective. I will say that I consider The Dark Knight to be my favorite movie. Blasphemous to some, sure, but I'm a really big Batman fan and after enduring the Burton and Schumacher versions (and even the cheesey Adam West version, which was well before my time, but I've still seen plenty of it) it was amazing to see someone actually take it serious and keep the characters similar to their comic counterparts. Big Spiderman fans got all crazy about those movies, and as a gigantic Batman fan it only would make sense that I would love a Batman movie when it is done really well. Add in the fact that I was already a big Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan fan and it was just a perfect combination for me.... so, at least in my mind I like to pretend that I'm not one of those moronic internet peoples.
Oh yeah, and surely you would know that reading reviews from IMDB or looking at the message boards for ANY movie is a big mistake.

Fuck yes. It actually JUST left my Imax about 2 weeks ago and left the cheap shows on Thursday.
None the less, I'll be there (again) with bells on. Can't fucking wait.

Of course, NoirFan also called LOTR films "fantasy foolishness" so I'm assuming he doesn't hold these more fanciful films and subject matters as best picture type material.

Is the "Joker Thug" at the start of the movie, the main one other than Joker that says
""obviously we don't want you doing anything with your hands other than holding on for dear life", and gets hit by the bus, anyone I might know? His voice has been so familiar to me ever since I saw it in the theater.

He's the one with the big red smiley face mask.
I just put in the BD, and it still has the same effect on me it did each time on the big screen.
Mah dawgs are hawngry!

Did The Academy Reverse Their Decision To Disqualify The Dark Knight Score?
http://www.slashfilm.com/2008/12/08/...-knight-score/
I kinda hope this is the case. It was a very good score and hope it gets nominated. Also hope to see score nominations for The Fall and DEFINITELY Synecdoche, New York.

I hope the score is allowed. The Academy already disqualified the best score of 07 (There Will be Blood) and it'd be nice if they didn't do the same to the best score of this year. Synecdoche's a good pick for a nom as well.
I don't really care about picking things up at midnight (at least not since Goblet of Fire came out and I was 11), but I think I'm gonna hop over to Best Buy and Target tonight and pick this up. I've got nothing to do tomorrow and I might as well.

Does the Academy think that because a single Producer/Director accepts the Best Picture Award that they were alone in making the entire film?!

I watched this on Blu-ray last night and it was first time I ever noticed that at the end of the SWAT chase scene, it looks like the Joker is kicking Batman but he's actually kicking one of his thugs.
Another thing, it's really easy to tell it's Nicky Katt in that scene. Even if you didn't already know it was him, you can see his face very clearly quite a bit.
Also, the part where Gordon gets shot, there's a pink mist. I assume Gordon was wearing a bulletproof vest, did he actually get shot?
There's so many more things I noticed than when I saw it in theatres.

I noticed the Joker kicking his thug. What I didn't notice the first time I saw it in theaters was that the trailer said Slaughter with the sprayed S, second time though I saw it. I just got too caught up in the sequence that I missed that...very comic book like of the Joker.

What kind of stupid rule is that in the first place? Who cares how many people work together to compose a score. The best score should be recognized no matter what.

I have a question for all of you. I watched The Dark Knight four times theatrically (to match my viewing record for Batman Begins) but not in IMAX. I vowed never to go to IMAX again (as a rather silly matter of principle) after they screwed up the sound halfway through The Matrix Revolutions when that was released. It took them 20 minutes before the lights went up and they told us there was nothing they could do (apparently it had happened earlier that day as well).
Anyway, my point is I haven't been in an IMAX theatre since January 2004. Is The Dark Knight really worth a trip to IMAX? It's my 2nd favorite movie (after The Godfather Part II) so you'd think this would be a no-brainer. My DVD arrived today and I'm just not sure.

A resounding YES from me. I thought watching it in IMAX was probably the greatest theatrical experience I have been a part of and the scenes filmed specifically for it are breathtaking.

This is still an amazing movie. Just finished watching the Blu-ray, and took the disc out, thought about it, and put it back in and watching again.

Me too. It's most definitely one of my top 5 BD purchases. The look and sound are PHENOMENAL! That said, I think "The Dark Knight" is the best comic book movie of the year. However, I did enjoy "Iron Man" more. Does that make sense? And "TDK" deserves any awards and nominations it gets. Where as I'm sure "Iron Man" won't get as much if any.

I think Iron Man is the best of the Marvel flicks, though I do enjoy The Incredible Hulk more. The Dark Knight is the best comic book movie of the year for sure though. I hope it gets the nominations that truly show what kind of film this was. I still hope Nolan at least gets nominated, and maybe win as well.
