Paramount's 'G.I. Joe 2' Casts 'Friday Night Lights' Star Adrianne Palicki
The actress trades in Wonder Woman for another heroic role.

Adrianne Palicki is apparently having a heroic streak after NBC passed on the Wonder Woman pilot. The Friday Night Lights actress has been cast as another iconic heroine.
A spokesperson for Palicki confirms to The Hollywood Reporter that she’s joining G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes in the lead role of Lady Jaye in the sequel directed by Jon M. Chu.
Palicki joins returning cast members Channing Tatum (Duke), Ray Park (Snake Eyes), and Byung-hun Lee (Storm Shadow) and new cast members RZA (Blind Master), D.J. Cotrona (Flint), Dwayne Johnson (Roadblock), and Elodie Yung (Jinx) for the sequel produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura for Paramount.
Besides Friday Night Lights and the now dead-in-the-water Wonder Woman pilot, Palicki starred in Fox's short-lived Lone Star. Also, she stars in the feature film Red Dawn, debuting in theatres later this year.

Well, I guess after the awesome news of the Rock being Roadblock, they had to balance it out with something lame.
But to make it cool again, Collider is reporting that Bruce Willis might be cast as Joe Colton.

Joe Colton is the 60's Joe. At least in the comics, he was the original GIJoe before the modern team (Real American Hero) was formed. Guess a way to make the old 12" figures part of canon. In more recent comics, Joe Colton was the leader of GIJoe after General Hawk was crippled.

Aww yeah Flint & Lady Jaye!
According to screenwriter Rhett Reese, purists will be happy with GI Joe II, and also mentioned the following:
Ninjas play a big part but..
....there is plenty of non-ninja stuff
Movie title has been decided but still top secret
No javelins (poor Lady Jaye)

Never heard of D.J. Cotrona but he certainly looks the part of Flint.

Re: G.I.Joe 2 Coming
I think the average fanboy who is hung up on a beloved childhood property has the same problem: that they want all the things they fondly remembered presented in a ridiculous and inappropriate "mature" way. The funny thing is, what most of them see as "mature" is just pretentiousness mixed with one-dimensional badassery.
So yeah, all these GI Joe fans basically wanted to see "Platoon" or "Apocalypse Now" with Snake Eyes.
Bottom line? The fans are often wrong.

Ray Stevenson Cast as Villain (Firefly)
With G.I. Joe 2 getting released next summer – specifically on August 10, 2012 – and filming set to begin next month, it was only a matter of time before Paramount announced who was playing the villain. Well, today’s the day, as THR says Ray Stevenson (Thor, Punisher: War Zone, Rome) has signed on to play the villain Firefly in director Jon M. Chu’s G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes (no word if that’s the official title). Stevenson joins Channing Tatum (Duke), Dwayne Johnson (Roadblock), Lee Byung-hun (Storm Shadow), Adrianne Palicki (Lady Jay), Elodie Yung, RZA (Blind Master), D.J. Cotrona (Flint) and Ray Park (Snake Eyes).
As you probably noticed by the cast, the sequel is made up of almost an entirely new group along with a new director. While this would usually be a call to arms by the fans, I think we can all agree that no one went to the first G.I. Joe because of the cast…they went because it was G.I. Joe. Saying that, I think the new cast looks solid and as one of the few who really enjoyed the first film, I hope the sequel is even better.
While THR has Firefly’s description as “a member of the villainous Cobra Organization and is known as a saboteur, ninja master and explosives expert.” Here’s what wikipedia has:
Firefly’s given name is unknown. Even Cobra Commander doesn’t know his real name or what he looks like. Firefly is a ninja master, a saboteur, and an expert in all NATO and Warsaw Pact explosives and detonators. He always places his charges in the proper location for maximum damage. His fees are paid into a numbered Swiss bank account, and are always paid in advance. He makes no guarantees, and gives no refunds. Firefly also tends to go together with Black Out and Munitia as H.I.S.S. (short for Hierarchy of Infiltration, Stealth, and Sabotage).
I’ll go out on a limb and say he’s going to blow something up and then the Joe team has to track him down. Sorry I didn’t give you a spoiler warning.
With production starting next month, I’d imagine we’ll hear a few more casting announcements soon. Until then…

Re: G.I.Joe 2 Coming
I took my dad to see TF: DOTM and then later we followed it up by watching G.I. Joe:TROC at home (he'd never seen it before). We both enjoyed G.I. Joe a heck of a lot more (he found DOTM too sloppily put together). I hope the sequel has the same straightforward approach.

Re: G.I.Joe 2 Coming
I didn't mind the humour in the first one bit. The reason it works is because they were throwaway lines rather than scenes that were practically demanding you laugh despite how unfunny the jokes were (see any "funny" scene in DOTM). You either laughed or you didn't but the movie's momentum kept going forward so there was no time to dwell on the hits or the misses.
And the plot was plenty straightforward in TROC, which is why it works. There are a total of 5 flashbacks (and one very minute snippet) that pass along pertinent information (usually in the form of an action sequence) so the film rarely gets bogged down in exposition. Best of all, the main villain refuses to tell the hero his master plan (at a point where the film would usually halt for a "it all began years ago in the small village of Gimmelshtump" moment of endless exposition) and the audience instead witnesses the master plan rather than having it told to them in some awkward fashion.

Re: G.I.Joe 2 Coming
It's possible that Stevenson is going to get as much screentime as he did in Thor - not enough.
And it's also possible that Channing Tatum, as much as I don't like him, could be a bit better now. He acted a bit better in The Dilemna and The Eagle, so maybe he won't be as monkeyish as he was in the first GI Joe film.

Re: G.I.Joe 2 Coming
I just can't seem to picture a G.I. Joe movie working without some appearance by Cobra Commander or Destro. Maybe it's a surprise. Of all the cast members they could have kept from the original why did they pick Channing Tatum?
