I am still very excited for another MCU movie though, and that's all that matters to me.

I also don't get the love for Scott Pilgrim. All I know is that it's based on an indie comic book (which I never read either). I have zero desire to ever see that movie though. I'm not big on the indie scene in general.
Did you ever see any other film by Edgar Wright?

I have mentioned it before, but I don't follow directors. I only watch movies if I'm interested in the subject matter, and since indie comics isn't a subject I am interested in, I never cared to watch Scott Pilgrim. I honestly never even knew it was directed by Edgar Wright.

I had to look up Wright's filmography on wikipedia since I am unfamiliar with him or directors in general. I did watch Shaun of the Dead since I love zombies. It was an okay movie, but nothing I ever care to watch again. I watched Hot Fuzz, but I don't really remember it at all since it was so long ago. The only thing I remember is that I did not like that movie at all. I watched The World's End. It was okay, but again like Shaun it's nothing I ever care to watch again. So just based on those three movies of Wright's that I have seen, I think it's safe to say I am not a Wright fan since he's pretty much 0/3 for me.

But then again, I'm pretty picky about what I like well enough to actually buy. I really only like maybe 3-5 movies well enough per year to buy the DVD/BD. I watch maybe 10-15 movies per year, but only end up buying 3-5 of them.

Scott Pilgrim was fantastic. But i'm someone that doesn't get all the love for Shaun of the Dead.

I don't know what any of this has to do with Guardians of the Galaxy though.

Shame you don't go to theaters, taffer. GotG was awesome in IMAX.

As for Scott pilgrim, I liked it (and also read the comics, which I thought were just OK). It's like a love letter to old school videogames, and wright did a good job bringing it to life. I enjoyed the movie far more than the source material.

Why are we talking about Scott Pilgrim?

I don't remember now.

I think Wright is one of those rare directors today that can balance a lot of love for genre but also make it fresh as well. I never heard of Scott Pilgrim till Wright was on the film. I ended up loving the material.

On the comedy side... he is a director we totally need cuz comedy totally forgot about direction and script. Jesus. It is like they don't even care about it anymore.

I go the theaters once a week, unless something really didn't come out worth my interest. There are easily enough films to do that. Nightcrawler being one of them. Way to go on your nice streak of awesome, Gyllenhaal. I've not preference for content, I just want to look like its a good movie.

Solomon Kane with James Purefoy. Oh, wait. He was a Puritan. Not a Pilgrim.

I'm guessing Rocket and Groot are going to be the most popular.

I actually like Gamora's slip the best. Those greens sure pop out on the sides.

Apparently because it's also based on a comic book Taffer's never read. It also sounds like he's never seen Scott Pilgrim and yet doesn't understand why anyone would love it.
Makes perfect sense in a Guardians of the Galaxy thread...not.

I think RocShemp actually brought it up originally. He wasn't attracted to it based on trailers, and didn't like it, despite getting positive vibes from everyone, and he has a similar feeling about GOTG (but hasn't seen GOTG yet)

Seems like an odd movie to pick for a comparison given there's not much in common about the movies themselves.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy (2014, Gunn) S: Pratt, Zaldana, Bautista, Cooper, Diesel

I enjoyed both of them, though GOTG is a much more traditionally structured than SPvTW. Other than both being based on lesser known comic books, I also don't see many similarities. One was about a guy pursuing his love interest with a videogame structure, one is about a band of galactic bandits with a traditional movie structure.

Guardians of the Galaxy was great because it's like a hugely budgeted movie straight from the 80s, if the bad guys were better it'd be an all time classic (but frankly the movie drags when Ronan, Thanos or Nebula are on screen - common issue with Marvel movies).

I'm in the same boat with you in regards to Scott Pilgrim, but I don't know how you won't be able to enjoy GotG. Nor do I understand how or why they're being compared.

That said, it was my second favorite film this year behind Edge of Tomorrow. Just go in with an open mind.
