So I take it there is a massive difference between like 850 and 900 years old?

Pretty sure Dooku is firmly human per all the nerdy Star Wars resources.

Still isn't a problem though. Maybe Obi-Wan and Vader coulda went into crazy theatrics within the confines of the story and simply decided on a different fighting style. Hardly a flaw. As I mentioned before, its easy to buy as an audience even if someone with a vendetta singles it out as a nitpick.

And I have zero problem with Yoda bouncing around like Sonic the Hedgehog when he's fighting, and I've never seen an audience go crazier in a theater than they did at the midnight AotC screening when he busted out his lightsaber. The details on his species have always been off-limits in all forms of Star Wars media so there's no conflict there, not to mention the fact that The Force is literally a nonsense magic with practically no rules.

The lightsabre fights in the prequels tended to be a little too elaborate. The Anakin/Obi-Wan fight in ROTS was just too much. Everything was just happening so fast and they're leaping around like frogs on a hot plate that it's just too much to take in. So many of the action scenes in the prequels are like watching people play video games.

My favorite lightsabre battles were the ones in ESB and ROTJ where they're just whaling on each other.

This is my favorite one. So much emotion, everything bubbling up, and great drama of a fight. Good stuff. Also...the fucking music is awesome.

Obi-Wan spent 20 years in the harsh Tatooine desert that probably took a toll on him. Plus, he probably didn't have access to any quality healthcare like Count Dooku did.

Here's my attempt to explain that...
Vader to Obi-Wan in ANH: "Your powers are weak, old man."
Dooku and Yoda were still stong with the Force in AOTC.

And I agree with Snake... so much emotion in the ROTJ duel. But the ESB duel is awesome in its own simple way. I love the arrogance Vader displays by wielding the saber single-handedly. As Luke proves himself worthy, Vader gets increasingly angry and starts using both hands.

He toys with Luke and then gets annoyed w/ him to the point where Vader will drill that reality into luke.

ROTJ is the weak one but it has some really Grade A moments in there. That last duel being one of them.

Yet in reality Obi spent those years in exile actually strengthening his connection with the Force. Obi was stronger with the force in ANH than Yoda was in AotC.

The whole sequence in Revenge of the Sith where Palpatine transforms into The Emperor during the battle with Windu is ridiculous really. Ian McDiarmid really hammed it up for that performance and its just kind of goofy.

He may have hammed it up but remember... Lucas allowed it.

I don't trust any of the decisions Lucas has made since at least 1997.

I actually thought the hatred for the PT would've slightly diminished by the time Phantom Menace-3D appeared in theaters, but holy shit, the hatred for those films seems to get worse and worse by the second. You've got plenty of people who won't even bother to see these new films just because the PT fucked them so badly.

Can you think of ANY movies that have become so hated by the public as the PT has?

I wasn't bullshitting when I said the PT has become the Birth of a Nation of our generation.

I think the prequel trilogy just overall hasn't held up as well and I don't really know if even the generation that grew up with it hold it in very high regards. I could be wrong about that but it doesn't seem like there's a lot of people who really love the prequels. There's the die hard Star Wars fans who just like anything they're told to because they're sheep and will follow whatever Lucas tells them to. Then you have the fans of the original trilogy who are soured on the prequel trilogy because of the endless changes that Lucas has made to the original trilogy to try and make them fit in with his grand vision or whatever bullshit he spews.

We can only hope that someday all those drooling fanboys will let go of their adolescent fantasies and see the prequels for the great films that they truly are. Keep fighting the good fight!

I'd hold them to a much higher standard if the OT was three great movies as opposed to one great movie surrounded by a good movie and a bad movie.

I don't hold them all up to Empire. I hold them up to Jedi, and under those circumstances only TPM manages to be worse, and only slightly so.

But I get it: if I obsessed over the OT like they were the greatest achievement in the history of fiction for my entire life before seeing the PT I would probably hate them too.

I don't think the original trilogy is the greatest piece of fiction in history (film or otherwise) but there's absolutely no comparison between it and the prequel trilogy.

I'd agree if you simply picked the worst PT movie and put it up against the best OT film. TESB vs. TPM is a bloodbath. But you reverse it and it's a whole other story. I'll tale RotS over RotJ any day of the week.

Return of the Jedi is a bad movie with some good aspects. Revenge of the Sith is a good movie with some bad aspects.

Revenge of the Sith is an okay film by the prequel trilogy's standards but that's only because the other two are so shitty that anything marginally better creams them by comparison. I'll agree that there are some aspects of it that are cool to see play out but overall I'd still never choose it over Return of the Jedi.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015, D: Abrams) S: Hamill, Ford, Fisher, Serkis, von Syd

I'd put AotC closer to RotS and single TPM out as the only truly-shitty movie in the PT. And even then the OT has a shitty movie in it too.

And like the Bond series I still find shitty Star Wars movies entertaining and watchable.

I don't say "Palpatine makes a goofy face so George Lucas can die and go to hell and get raped by demons." I'm reasonable like that. Kinda like how I don't think its the most unreasonable thing in the world to suffer through all the goofy shit in Jabba's palace and the pussification of Han Solo and an unimaginative rehash of the Death Star sequence and the franchise lowpoint that is the Ewoks to see the cool stuff in Jabba's palace and the speeder bike chase and the Luke/Vader/Emperor stuff.

There's a lot of cool shit in the prequels. More cool shit than shitty shit.
