Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015, D: Abrams) S: Hamill, Ford, Fisher, Serkis, von Syd

Note from JJ to the cast and Crew

Dearest Cast and Crew, What an honor it is to work beside all of you, on Star Wars Ep VII. I can’t thank you enough, for all work past and future. Let’s take good care of not just ourselves, but of each other. Amazing, but true: the world awaits this film. Let’s give ‘em something GREAT. xo JJ
And Hasbro let slip all of the Star Wars movies coming out in the next few years.

Hasbro recently held an event where they revealed their lines of upcoming Star Wars toys through the year 2020. Of course, Disney is releasing a new Star Wars movie every year, so I’m sure Hasbro wouldn’t spoil anything that J.J. Abrams doesn’t want us to know. It turns out that the German website StarWars-Union.de was there, and they called shenanigans. Shenanigans is German for “spoiler alert”, in case you were wondering. The popular fansites Jedi News and Making Star Wars picked up the story from there, but have since been asked to remove the information. Dun-dun-DUNNNNNNNNNN!
2014: Rebels
2015: Episode VII
2016: Boba Fett
2017: Episode VIII
2018: Solo
2019: Episode IX
2020: Red Five

Boba Fett should be good for a couple movies at least. Set it 10-15 years after Episode 3 and have him hunting down some Jedi's for Vader would be pretty cool IMO.

The idea of the prequel, not just to Star Wars but in general, is not appealing whatsoever at this point.

I want to see the spin off's taking place concurrently to the Ep 7-9 trilogy. I'd rather they not jump from Ep VII then back to a post Ep III Boba Fett, then back to Ep VIII and then to young Han Solo or whatever they've got planned.

Muddies the waters.

Source?

There's always been a three year gap between episodes in a trilogy before.

Also, Rebels is the new animated TV series that is replacing the Clone Wars animated series. I don't think they do are doing a movie for it, at least I haven't heard that they are.

It's been known for a long time now, I think it was part of the original announcement that they were going to release the new trilogy over a 6 year span.

Disney's original plan when it bought LucasFilm, the Star Wars rights and announced Episode VII, was to release new core films every two years from 2015 with a spin-off in between.

The list is from Hasbro about what toy lines they're going to release that year. So they're going to release a toy line for the TV show Rebels this year. The conjecture is that the 2016/2018/2020 toy lines will be tie-ins with the spin-off films.

There could be no SW whatsoever and Hasbro would still find new action figures to release.

It's possible, but we know that the reported 2014/2015/2017/2019 toy lines are tie-ins with the known TV shows and movies, and we know that the spin-offs will be released in the other years, and it makes sense that Hasbro would make toy lines based on those spin off films.

unless they've invented a time machine, I really have no interest in a Han Solo prequel movie.

Yeah, I'm much rather see a movie called LANDO - that has him and a young Chewbacca flying around the galaxy in the Millennium Falcon.

However, we can't be 100 percent sure yet that a movie called "Solo" is about Han - it could very well be about his daughter in the new movie.

If they have to make a Solo movie, I wouldn't mind seeing one comprised largely of flashbacks to younger incarnations of himself - almost like a biopic. Obviously they'd have to recast him as a child (if they go back that far) and a younger adult, but of course Ford would play the old Solo.

These one-off movies sound like a disaster waiting to happen. I'd rather see movies set 10k years in the future or past than anything having to do with the current set of characters.

Yeah, same here. Sounds like a terrible idea to me.
They need to stop looking backward and come up with compelling new characters and conflicts.

The Fett movies could work I suppose since the character in the OT is a bit of a blank slate. Screw the prequels, the character is a bounty hunter and this is space opera material. Look to some of the better, lesser known spaghetti westerns and you can see there are plenty of ways to tell an entertaining story with that kind of character.

I'm a big Boba Fett fan so I'd like to see a couple movies with him. I think it'd be really cool to see what they could do with him in a movie. I don't care to see a Han Solo stand alone movie though that sounds like a reach.

A sort of chronicles of young Han Solo?

After these upcoming 3 movies, I wish they'd let the series die. Star Wars in my opinion is the tale of the Skywalkers. Anything beyond that, set in the same universe or not, can be any generic sci fi movie. But I'm sure it will go on and on forever and ever.

If there are good stories to tell, why let it die? That makes zero sense.

Yeah, Disney spent $4 billion on the franchise to make one trilogy and then call it quits.

Get real. One trilogy won't be nearly enough to break even on that initial investment.

Also, there are plenty of unique things in Star Wars that set it apart from generic sci-fi other than the Skywalkers. Jedi, Sith, lightsabers, X-Wings, TIE fighters, etc. Star Wars isn't just the Skywalkers and nothing else.

Yep, no way Disney doesn't milk STAR WARS from now until the end of time. I suspect at some point there may be a 'burnout' break, but if they do to STAR WARS what they've done with MARVEL, they're sitting on a gold mine.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm pretty excited about having a new Star Wars movie (be they spin-offs or main episodes) every year.

It's funny, when I was younger I used to say I just wanted to live long enough to see all the Star Wars movies - now I realize that's not ever going to happen.

If it takes more stories to forget the abomination that is the prequels then I'm all for it.

I'm excited too. One Star Wars movie per year is actually pretty light considering Disney is doing two Marvel movies per year.

I love the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so I am definitely very excited to see what Disney does with Star Wars.

I'm interested in the Episode films. Any spin-offs I'll be much more cautious about, although in theory a spin-off could be more fun since it could go off in directions they couldn't take the Episode movies.

If they do indeed make a Boba Fett spin-off, I hope it is a post-ROTJ movie showing him escaping from the Sarlacc. It will be worth it just to see all the fanboys rage.

It doesn't bother me that they are going to keep going after the ST. It's just I probably won't be watching. I won't watch a film where Han Solo isn't played by Harrison Ford. Ditto Indiana Jones.
