The DDL rumor only came about because he was recently spotted having lunch with Kathleen Kennedy (and Lucas, apparently). Remember, Kennedy produced Lincoln and they were probably just having a friendly get together. I don't think there have been any reports of J.J. having lunch in public with potential casting choices... dude likes to keep things on the down low.

Day Lewis had Lunch with Kathleen Kennedy. I suppose you could take it that means involvement with Star Wars

regardless of the initial reason for the lunch, you'd be foolish not to think that Kennedy would at least ask DDL about the possibility of being involved, even if it was subtle to gauge his level of (dis)interest.

Hence the word rumor.

October 30 would be one year since Disney got Star Wars. Maybe they will announce the cast that day.

Casting DDL reminds me of Lucas casting Alec Guinness in the OT.

Hopefully he wouldn't loath it as much in his later years though.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015, D: Abrams, S: The casts of Star Trek, Lost, Felicit

Ronan talked a bit about her Star Wars audition during an Empire magazine podcast:

"Even if I don't get it, I had so much fun auditioning. Pretending to take out a lightsaber out of a bag, kind of inspect it and not know what it is. That was great. A lightsaber!"
Assuming what she's describing is an actual scene from the script, it seems the female lead might not be a member of the Skywalker/Solo clan. Hard to believe a daughter in her late teens would be clueless about a lightsaber in that family. Either that, or perhaps they were testing her using the scene from A New Hope where Ben presents Luke with his father's saber.

...and then Luke never uses it in the movie (training with the ball doesn't count).

I wouldn't be surprised if they used a scene that isn't in the movie for the audition; either a fake one created for the audition, or one from one of the other films.

Yeah I don't think they would have auditioners act out an actual scene from the new movies. The risk is too great that they would leak the scene on the internet. Like what just happened with this lightsaber in a bag scene...

Yeah, revealing the audition process is a great way not to get hired.

Variety reports that Saoirse is on the short list to play Sue Storm in the Fantastic Four reboot and is being tested for it. Doesn't seem likely she'd commit to a potentially conflicting franchise if she suspected she had Star Wars in the bag. However, Michael B. Jordan confirmed that he went in for Episode VII, yet movie sites continue to link him to the role of Johnny Storm.

Oh, and Harrison Ford is now saying he hasn't decided if he's going to do the movie. However, he has no such reservations about doing Indy 5 -- stating "I don't think there is any barrier to Indiana Jones being an old fart."

I think the hold-up on whether he will come back as Han Solo is simply over $$$ and how big or small a role it will be in the ST. Will he just make a cameo and get killed off in Episode VII? Will he play a key role in all 3 movies with he and Leia's kids?

With Indy 5, he knows he's the star of the show and will get paid big bucks, whereas Luke will probably end up getting the most screentime for the big 3 in the ST.

I think that has to do more with working with Spielberg vs working with another director. Pretty sure most actors, even those of Ford's stature, jump at a chance to work with Spielberg.

Truth be told, I'm not excited about the prospect of another Star Wars movie. However, I'd really look forward to another Indiana Jones movie.

I do know that Ford has spoken very favorably of J.J. Abrams (who wrote Regarding Henry) in the past -- plus Kennedy was Speilberg's producing partner for decades. It's not like he would be working with strangers. I don't really understand why he's always seemed so blasé about this series, even going back to Jedi. While he was grateful for the career boost it provided, he seems to have little interest in the franchise itself (much like Murray with Ghostbusters). Personal tastes, I suppose. While I love Indiana Jones as much as the next guy, I'd take Han Solo over him any day of the week.

Rise of the Jedi

Return of the Sith

Just more rumors... Still hoping we'll get some major cast news on 10/30.

My theory is the fact that the story was about Luke, not Han. He didn't like being behind Mark Hamil in terms of importance. When it comes to Indy, he is the top star.

Because Han is a one note character with little depth.

I just watched a clip of The Graham Norton Show where the Ford quotes originated. Norton made a crack about Han and Leia being an old married couple running a bed and breakfast, to which Harrison quipped "That's why I've not quite made the choice." Just before that, he did his usual "Eh... uh... hmm..." schtick when asked about being in the film. These movie sites just took the response out of context.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015, D: Abrams, S: The casts of Star Trek, Lost, Felicit

So there's some pretty well-founded speculation that Lucasfilm is building toward some announcement on Oct. 30. It started with the posting of the Star Wars 1976 teaser on their official youtube page on 10/9, followed by The Empire Strikes Back teaser on 10/16. If the pattern holds, we should get Return of the Jedi on 10/23, then something on 10/30, which also happens to be the 1 year date of the official Disney announcement.

Could JJ have Bad Robot whip up a short teaser ala Super 8 or Cloverfield this early? Possibly. Or maybe Lucasfilm is just having a laugh with all of the fans.
