I don't know about any book, but that was the first mission in the original Dark Forces game.

I'm guessing the "Detroit" showing is actually in Ann Arbor, as I'm only pulling up 2 Cinemark locations in the area, and that's the only one with 20 screens. Do I want to drive an hour to see an 88 second teaser that will probably be online sooner than later? I'm thinking no.

The San Jose, CA Cinemark is going to be my destination. :-)

So is it going to be in ALL movies or just select ones? I still haven't seen Mockingjay 1 and I wouldn't mind holding out if the tease will be attached to it at this weekend's showings.

Yeah a limited release for a teaser seems like a goofy marketing strategy. Not really sure I understand that at all. Its bound to leak anyways.

I think it's just this weekend, with a larger rollout in December (most likely on every HOBBIT print).

Also, re: Kal-El's question - this is supposed to play on EVERY movie at the respective 30 theaters for EVERY showing. So if you can get to one of these theaters, see whatever you want.

I heard every movie, show, song, or cat video being shown, aired, broadcast, or streamed are all supposed to flip to being the teaser trailer for 88 seconds at exactly 7:00pm on Friday night.

Well huh, I usually book movies at the Alamo by the app and mysteriously no show times are listed for Friday. Related?

Edit: finally show times appeared. Good excuse to see big hero 6.

In the first place, JJ, there aren't any "prints" anymore, though if you forget about the Kodak battle you've been part of as soon as you finish shooting this, I won't be surprised. In the second place, it's not 1999 anymore, so this gimmick is a little stale. It WILL get bootlegged, and even if it doesn't, it'll show up online a few weeks later. Give me a trailer for 4K remasters of the OOT and maybe I'll get excited. But I'm not paying to see a movie in which I have no interest to see a teaser which isn't even an actual trailer. TMP burned me badly enough.

The TPM trailer was released online in even 1999 (after the Meet Joe Black situation). I like this idea of actually having it in theaters only. Even if it gets leaked, it doesn't matter, It's making news.

The teaser itself would be enough to make headlines I bet. The limited release thing does just seem like one of Abrams' stupid gimmicks.

Nah,
Spoiler:
the bothans just died to bring word that the emperor would be on the death star when they attack it. He wanted to see what his money/slaves were getting him.

Umm, you're the only person who has used the word "prints." And why does it matter that the trailer will get bootlegged or be available online? How is that different than any other trailer ever made? The notion that JJ is somehow the mastermind behind all of this (including re-releasing the oot) is stupid as well.

Maybe I am not remembering correctly, but
Spoiler:
didn't the Bothan spies steal the plans for the second Death Star in ROTJ? I don't think it was ever explained how the Rebels got the plans for the original Death Star in ANH.

Yeah the Bothans got the plans to the second one which is one of the many boring and inconsequential events reverse-engineered out of throwaway dialogue portrayed in "Shadows of the Empire"

I always thought the Bothans line was in the first film, but a quick Googling confirms it was in Jedi. I am one shamed nerd!
