It's Mon Mothma who says the Bothan line and she only appears in RotJ. For shame, nerd.

In the first place, JJ, there aren't any "prints" anymore, though if you forget about the Kodak battle you've been part of as soon as you finish shooting this, I won't be surprised. In the second place, it's not 1999 anymore, so this gimmick is a little stale. It WILL get bootlegged, and even if it doesn't, it'll show up online a few weeks later. Give me a trailer for 4K remasters of the OOT and maybe I'll get excited. But I'm not paying to see a movie in which I have no interest to see a teaser which isn't even an actual trailer. TMP burned me badly enough.

I think Disney is fully aware this thing is going to be bootlegged and appear online in various forms all weekend long...they'll publicly make moves to pull stuff down, but privately be all abuzz about it.
They'll probably release a longer HD version of the trailer online on Dec. 18th.

That's why its stupid. If they know it'll be bootlegged anyways why even do it? Plus who does a limited release for a teaser? Its just a really odd marketing strategy.

Disney has been pretty good with marketing its established franchises. I'm guessing they have a motive for doing this. Maybe its getting a kick back or other concessions from the movie theater chains?

Sarcasm? They did just that actually. It got leaked. Marvel/Disney said, "ah hell naw niggahs we own getting them youtube views" And they released their trailer officially.

I think it might have been the Death Star novel that had a brief part where Ackbar stole the plans and escaped from Tarkin.
As for the teaser... maybe there'll be bootlegs online this weekend, then Disney will release the official teaser next Tuesday and it'll be in all theaters next weekend.

my response was to Disney start pulling down the bootleg videos. I don't think they are going to do that.

International teaser? Fanboy teaser? I dunno...looks pretty fanboyish to me, with the unfinished effects and all.

Hey, two pet topics
.
I think a previous post did
.
Masterminding what? It sounds like a marketing gimmick, which is the kind of thing he does better than almost anyone. It isn't different from any other trailer ever made, that's my point. The whole prospect of specially attaching it to specific movies seems kind of pointless when anyone can see it online, is all I'm saying. And I 100% guarantee you that JJ has nothing whatsoever to do with the OOT, I agree completely. My point was, that would be a far more exciting prospect to me than this trailer. Even if it could be withheld, I could just see it online the next week when it got officially released.
That's what I was saying. I sounds like a 25-year old marketing gimmick, and it doesn't sound like it's very applicable in today's climate. I'll watch the trailer, sure. Maybe it'll be good. But it just sounds like an attempt to drum up excitement for something which people are frankly probably pretty interested in anyway.
The prospect of someone at Disney actually using that phrase is hilarious to me.

And why does it matter that the trailer will get bootlegged or be available online? How is that different than any other trailer ever made? The notion that JJ is somehow the mastermind behind all of this (including re-releasing the oot) is stupid as well.
The prospect of someone at Disney actually using that phrase is hilarious to me.

eh, i doubt that is real. Some of the effects looked pretty cheesy (even the TIE pilot holding the lightsaber looked totally CGI instead of guy in suit). Also, not a single shot of Han or Leia? Plus some of the shots were just weird...like the lingering shot of a door halfway open?
now that I have said my piece, watch it turn out to be at least some real footage, haha.

It just looks like excerpts from Star Wars video games, fan films and other movies spliced together. I think I recognize the shot at 0:53 from somewhere, but I can't place it at the moment. The shot of Luke is obviously a picture Hamill's head pasted on Hayden Christensen from RotS. A nice effort, but I'm surprised that anyone could mistake it for real with the low res CG and the "shot on digital" look of many of the shots.

Yeah that trailer doesn't seem real. It just seems like something spliced together from other sources as was mentioned. Plus I think Disney would have acknowledged it by now if it was in fact leaked.

It says it's fake in the description... "We hope you enjoy the trailer as much as we enjoyed creating it. sorry if we got your hopes up. May the force be with you all"

I didn't read the description as I just watched it through the embedded link. I assumed it wasn't real though.
