I'd like to see an PT hater explain how the OT titles were good and the PT ones were bad.
A New Hope is just generic and not very memorable. The Empire Strikes Back makes some sense though their act of striking back is pretty much done once they leave Hoth but Return of the Jedi is nonsensical considering Luke never went anywhere though you could make the case that it refers to the Jedi Order in general or even Anakin Skywalker.

I do think Revenge of the Sith is s good title in not only a fan service way but also the way it mirrors the Return title.
I've always taken the Return to be Anakin. Well not originally I thought it was Luke but when I got older the Jedi that is returning is clearly Anakin.

I like the title...let me know when it's officially okay to just refer to it as "TFA".
Bottom line is that none of these movies have had very good titles...but this one isn't nearly the head-scratcher that "The Phantom Menace" was when we first heard about it back in 1998 or whenever they officially announced it.
Plus, considering that most die-hard fans think the series has done nothing but backtrack since 1983, it also has a double meaning of "yeah, we're back!" I'm sure Disney and JJ liked that about the title.

A New Hope has been the title since the early 80s when Lucas had a direct line into the mind of God and he used his gift to grace the world with the greatest work of fiction in the history of the universe.
It was long before he became worse than a thousand Hitlers starting in 1997.

I'm surprised I'm the first to post this.
Apparently we have a title.

But it's resting now. It had a hard day at the office so don't make too much noise. Just take your little friends and go play out-
Shit! you woke it up!
I'll be right in with your beer, honey....

I always thought of the Force as being kind of like Mother Nature. Mother Nature isn't exactly a real tangible thing, but whenever there is a bad storm sometimes people say things like, "Mother Nature is angry" or "Mother Nature has unleashed her fury." I imagine "the Force awakening" would be somewhat similar.
I also always thought Return of the Jedi meant a return of the old Jedi Order. Yoda even tells Luke to pass his teachings on to new students. Although Episode VII spoilers...

I'm fine with the title, it only had to be better than The Phantom Menace and it achieves that. Movie will probably be a little better too. If it's on Revenge Of The Sith level without the baggage of two previous shitty films to lead in, we will all be ok with it.

Why not just call it Star Wars 7? Or just leave the Star Wars part out of it like the James Bond Franchise, we'll figure it out when we see lightsabers and hear that score.

Am I the only one who always associated the FOX fanfare with the true start of a Star Wars movie? I'm going to miss that.

Good point, that will feel a bit odd. The major thing is the title screen where it says STAR WARS and the horns blast. Do you think they will do that for the spin-off movies? Might seem weird to start off a Boba Fett movie that way.

I hope they reserve that strictly for the "Episode" installments. I also hope they go the Marvel route and don't put the Disney or Bad Robot logos at the start of the movie (though I'm betting Abrams will insist on the latter appearing right after the Lucasfilm Ltd. logo). Seeing Cinderella's castle with the "When You Wish Upon a Star" theme playing right before a Star Wars movie would feel kind of strange to me.

The reason the main title theme seems to complete the fanfare is that it does: John Williams composed the theme in B major — the same key as Alfred Newman's 1933 fanfare — knowing the Fox anthem would lead into his opening notes.
