Red armed Threepio will sell more action figures. I guess they don't have spray paint in a galaxy far far away.

I wouldn't say it's overall a big deal having a new arm on 3PO, but it is a bit odd looking and clashes with the rest of his color scheme. Plus he already had a mismatched part with his silver lower right leg.

They are turning Threepio into a Voltron-ish color scheme. Red arm. Silver Leg. Soon the other two limbs will be two more colors.

I assume they're not going to explain it. Lucas had said 3PO had the silver leg to show that the droids had been on many previous adventures, and that seems like what they're going for here.

Yeah. Just like I said though the red really clashes with the rest the color scheme in my opinion.

I really really reaaaaaaaaaaaally doubt they are going to bring ewoks back. Lucas might have, but Abrams isn't that dumb. This is just a dumb completely unbelievable rumor someone created just to stir up shit.

I still don't really get the Ewok hate in all honesty. Yes they were something to appeal to kids, but they weren't all that bad. Plus they really didn't do a whole lot other than capturing Luke, Han, Chewie, R2, and 3PO and their participation in the Battle of Endor.

A MakingStarWars report from last August:

Spoiler:
http://makingstarwars.net/2014/08/st...-lucas-vision/
Endor - Again, very early on, there were several sketches titled ‘after party’ which was a bit of an in-joke. These showed a second battle of Endor. The story being that after the rebels left Endor, Imperial forces and these new villains attacked. They killed many Ewoks and more importantly left with the remains of Darth Vader. Now, where I was working at the time, there was a lot going on and some of it wasn’t necessarily related to Episode VII but other Star Wars projects that will fill in the gaps between Episode VI and VII . I don’t think these scenes will appear in the movie but rather something set between movies.
But yeah, I can't really fathom Abrams and company wanting to include Ewoks in the movie. We can assume the theft of Vader's remains happened a long time ago and I doubt we'll be seeing a flashback of it. It also makes sense that a Star Wars pressbook would mention Wicket next to Davis' bio, as it's the character he's most known for in the series. He's probably just playing a random (and currently unnamed) alien in The Force Awakens.

Remember when 3PO said he wasn't much of a storyteller in Star Wars? Then in Jedi, he enchanted an entire room full of Ewoks and people complete with sound effects?

Maybe Luke remembered that 30 years later, felt slighted at not hearing tales of the Clone Wars, ripped 3PO's original arm off and beat him with it. Then, after feeling guilty, bought a knockoff arm from some Jawas.

This. Warwick Davis was in the Phantom Menace as well. I don't remember his character's name, but I do remember seeing him during the pod race sequence.

So Luke becomes a wookiee ripping arms out sockets? Speaking of which, maybe 3PO had a rematch with Chewie in that chess game and Chewie lost and that's the reason for the new arm.

I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.

It's probably something that happens in the movie (like him reaching into a vat of red goo to save R2 or BB-8 or something like that).

JJ Abrams apparently didn't know anything about Star Trek so maybe he doesn't know that Threepio doesn't have a red arm?

Looks like a new red arm to me. I hope there's no explanation for it.

The Irish Times ran an article indicating the production team made a return visit to Skellig Michael Island a few weeks ago (though it doesn't sound like they did any reshoots).

http://www.irishtimes.com/news/irela...hael-1.2242185

There was some controversy when they filmed there last summer because ecologists feared the production would disrupt the bird nesting season. I believe this was because they had to move the island shoot up a couple months to keep the production on schedule after Ford's leg injury. Perhaps Abrams wants to return there this fall when they might have more freedom... or maybe they're already scheduling location filming for Episode VIII.

I dunno about selling more figures just because of a red arm. Kids aren't going to care either way. Adult collectors might buy more variants but that's about all.

I'm just saying I doubt kids will be more apt to wanting a 3PO figure because he has a red arm. That's either the only way they'll know him or won't care. The change doesn't bother me too much I just don't think it was done solely for selling toys.

Variants is exactly the point. Variants sell like hotcakes. Look at the comic book industry where it is common practice to release one comic with 10 variant covers. Many people will buy all 10 variant covers.

Yeah. It's more for the adult collectors that stuff like this is done. The problem with a franchise like this is people either will love or hate the change.
