So flying ships in outer-space with aliens battling it out didn't make sense? Who gives a shit? It's a popcorn movie not a documentary or "based on a true story" drama. I never gave two shits about Star Trek UNTIL the 2009 version.

I'm hoping JJ brings a more adult tone to the SW franchise.

The clubjade.net site is saying that JJ still has not confirmed the news yet.

But anyway, why haven't people posted pics with the Falcon and Destroyer with lens flares? Man, that'd be cool to see. I realize not everyone likes the style but I think it has its place. It does get annoying sometimes.

Not happening. Remember, this was bought by Disney. They may avoid more silly elements (such as poop and fart jokes), but if they make them at the same "family" level as the OT (not "kiddie", but enjoyable by all ages), then that will be fine with me.

It's funny how J.J. lowered the bar so low that we have no choice *but* to pine for those flawed days.

Abrams isn't perfect, but he's directed some fun and entertaining films. Star Wars needs to get back to being fun again and I think he's a safe choice to make it happen. The prequels are so drawn out and convoluted that they don't even feel like Star Wars movies most of the time.

Abrams Star Wars will most likely be better than the originals

Anyone can direct it as far as I'm concerned. The script is what has to be much better. PT had some of the worst dialogue I've ever heard.

As for Star Trek, I loved the 2009 film and I'm a big fan of the original cast. Abrams helped inject new life into the franchise. Like anything else that is changed 1% of the fans are going to cry about it.

As a Trekkie (yes, TREKKIE ) of over 45 years, I completely disagree. Nemesis was such a pathetic mess that no Trek film could have been worse. Trek '09 was light years better by comparison.

Why is it better? Better special effects? The "kewlness" factor?

It's a bunch of low rent actors doing SNL-level impersonations of the 60s cast (I'm looking at your specifically Simon Pegg) with multi-million dollar special FX.

Can't we give the lens flare jokes a rest? They've been outdated since they were first mentioned.

PatD's criticisms are coming off a little nitpickey, but then I realize he is only acting the same way Supermallet did in the Prometheus thread.

I'd say since the first time Abrams made a movie with lens flares.

You say anyone can direct, but Lucas had Sam Jackson, Ewan, Portman, & Neeson and still couldn't get much in the way of a performance out of them. No need to mention Hayden and Lloyd.

The PT had some poor dialog, but in the hands of the 4 I named, they could make anything work with a decent director.

I wasn't offended as a fan of Trek as much as I was a fan of film.

EDIT:

VVV Well, the jerkstore called, they're running out of you!

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015, D: Abrams, S: The casts of Star Trek, Lost, Felicit

I love the original SW trilogy.
The prequels suck.
I'm not a Star Trek fan and I thought the '09 movie wasn't too bad.

I think that if they could get a good story and a good cast that Abrams could do a good job with this.

I'll await more information before getting my blood pressure up.

I'd be happy with them or Berman. Frankly I never got the hate on him since his tng, ds9, enterprise was all fine by me? Voyager was the worst of the bunch but still better than most of the tng movies imo.

Tell .me about it. People in there one day went on a witchhunt simply because I said I was surprised I like Person of Interest since usually I don't care for JJs work.

Except A) I was right and B) I don't jump in on how bad Prometheus is every time someone mentions it.

And most of the time, my dislike of specific movies are brought up by others. See: the above quote.
