If it's about how Yoda became a Jedi, I'm game...if it's just about "old" Yoda and the Jedi Council, I'm not as interested. I'm toxic to almost anything "Clone Wars"-era these days, because there's been so much overkill (prequels, animated series, etc.).

honestly I've had enough of Yoda, Emperor, and Anakin/Vader at this point. I'm interested in Luke's story continuing, but other than that, it's time to move on from some of these characters.

I don't think we got nearly enough Emperor. Apperently the guy was a complete badass but they only showed us that for 10 minutes or so in RoTS.

I never thought the Emperor's abilities lied in his physical feats, but in his ability to manipulate people, which was shown in the entire prequel trilogy.

If manipulation means convincing a relatively normal person to murder an entire schoolroom full of children at the snap of his fingers then, yes, we saw the Emperor's manipulation tactics.

He was really good at manipulation, to be sure. But I don't think we should take anything away from his physical feats. After all, he cut down Mace Windu's wingmen and took Yoda to the limit (it's unclear whether Mace actually bested him or he knew Anakin's arrival was imminent).

Some of the examples in the prequels were poorly executed, but they're poorly executed films in general. My point was more that the Emperor's power has always been in subtle corruption and manipulation instead of via brute force. Think of his attempts to corrupt Luke in ROTJ.

Aside from that, he also manipulated his way into the role of Chancellor, then manipulated the Senate into proclaiming him Emperor.

I was skeptical about the rumors of a Yoda standalone movie but Bob Iger confirmed that in addition to Ep7-9, standalone movies were also in the works.
Screw Yoda. Bring back Boba Fett!

If Palpatine could sense when Anakin was being burned alive half a galaxy away on Mustafar, then he could definitely sense Anakin when they are on the same planet of Coruscant. He knew Anakin was coming, and he threw the fight against Windu so as to an appearance of the Jedi being evil and oppressive over a weaker man to seduce Anakin into action against Windu and make his fall to the dark side concrete. The whole thing was just an elaborate trap for Anakin. Palpatine was a master planner, and if he wasn't certain of the outcome he never would have told Anakin that he was Darth Sidious in the first place.
That's another thing. Palpatine was able to successfully mask his Force presence for over a decade. He was in close contact with some powerful Jedi like Windu and Yoda many times, and they never could sense any Force sensitivity in him. They only discovered it when Palpatine wanted it to be discovered.
The novelization also does make it clear that Palpatine was superior Yoda. In the novel, Yoda says something like he underestimated just how powerful the Sith were, and he hadn't just lost, but that he had lost before he was ever born.

FWIW, the Yoda movie seems like a possibility now that Iger confirmed that there will be spinoff movies, outside of the normal 3 sequel movies.

I don't think I can take two hours of a backward speaking green dwarf. It's why a tattoo movie never panned out.

the star wars cinematic galaxy is about to experience a big bang. Lucasfilm is officially announcing new spinoff films that will expand the mythos and depths of the star wars universe in previously unexplored ways.
One of the standalone films will be written by lawrence kasdan, screenwriter of the empire strikes back, raiders of the lost ark, and co-writer of return of the jedi while the other will be penned by simon kinberg, writer of sherlock holmes and mr. And mrs. Smith. The movies will be separate from the upcoming episodes vii, viii, and ix, on which kasdan and kinberg are also consulting, and are expected to be released sometime after episode vii. Each standalone film will focus on a specific character, and two spinoff films are currently confirmed.
In a call to investors, bob iger, chairman and ceo of the walt disney company, revealed while the original focus was on the highly-anticipated sequel trilogy, the idea of spinoff films was bandied about early and the additional films are now becoming a reality. "we are in development of a few standalone films," he said, "that are not part of the star wars saga...there are now creative entities working on developing scripts for what would be those standalone films."

Ahead? Haha. Star Wars Christmas Special, anyone?
I look forward to a bunch of fresh stabs at the actual movie franchise.

I'd love it if Kasdan wrote a Ben Kenobi movie for Ewan. Ben's been on Tatooine for 10 years now and gets into some trouble... a thankless adventure that ends up saving the planet but leaves the rest of the planet thinking he's a crazy old hermit.

I'd prefer if they waited until after the new trilogy, I don't see how they market them without confusing people. I'd be down with a new SW every two years, but yearly would probably be a bit much...unless they can keep up the quality.
