It's funny because it has lense flares.

I've seen that pic making the rounds. People will never forgive Lucas for his green screen obsession.

Yeah the green screen pic is probably posted way back in this very thread.

Abrams has plenty of practical sets in his movies. In fact, aside from space scenes and background mattes, I'm pretty sure almost all of Star Treg was shot in an actual studio with a practical set. Why would Star Wars be any different?

This is something that makes me very happy about him getting the job.

Just looked up the synopsis - sounds interesting. I always enjoy stuff set in between the movies. It just came out - you must be a fast reader.

I'm still trying to finish Darth Plagueis. And it's been years since I read the Thrawn trilogy - I'd like to re-visit that one as well.

I tried to read it ... got sick of all the lens flares on every page. Completely unnecessary!

History has shown that sci-fi movies benefit when the person at the helm was never a fan in the first place, and could look at the material objectively. JJ with Star TREK, Nicholas Meyer with Wrath of Khan and The Undiscovered Country, Irvin Kershner with The Empire Strikes Back... so it'll be interesting to see what happens here with JJ, an admitted Star WARS fanboy.

Yes they are.

Sci Fi geeks make the worst comedic personalities either on the Internet or in person. Talk about taking one, obscure humorous thing and just beat it to death like a baby seal getting clubbed to death.

Star Trek is just 2 hours of lens flares. I just finished Fringe Season One last night so I got 20 hours of lens flares. If Abrams Star Wars is twice as good as his Star Trek it will be complete shit.

Not necessarily. Leonard Nimoy made two great Star Trek movies (and was heavily involved in the story for UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY). Jonathan Frakes made at least one. And Stuart Baird was not a Star Trek fan, and totally mucked up NEMESIS. JJ may not have been a Star Trek fan, but writers Bob Orci and Alex Kurtzman are huge Trekkies.

Oh, no, I'm not a fast reader - took me two weeks. It came out Jan 1. Finale and twist at the end is a bit silly and over the top but still a fun read.

Cameron was a fan of Alien, right? I think Aliens turned out okay.

Am I the only one around here not bothered by lens flare?

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015, D: Abrams, S: The casts of Star Trek, Lost, Felicit

JJ & team made of lot of great choices for the ST reboot. But his wanting the Enterprise bridge to feel like it was "made of light" was a pointless whim that lead to a bridge that feels illogical, like you'd have to wear sunglasses to work there. It pretty much deserves all the teasing it gets. And we tease because we care. We've actually got a lot invested in the Ent bridge as the hub around which most of Star Trek revolves.
