It was only ever a rumor, based on speculation that Disney/Lucasfilm would announce something on the 1-year anniversary of the Lucasfilm purchase, and the release of the teasers of eps 4-6, one a week, for the past 3 weeks leading up to today.

Something still may be announced. Meanwhile, enjoy this blooper reel for Star Wars:

Today's video from the Star Wars youtube channel is the 1978 theatrical re-release.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xx-ju1mUmEc

(I don't know how to embed)

It's not the big announcement we were looking for, but it does continue the pattern, so.... see you all next Wednesday?

You just put the Youtube identifier in between [yt ] and [/yt ] brackets. Everything after the "v=" in the URL is the Youtube identifier, so for that video the identifier is "Xx-ju1mUmEc" and the embed code would be:

HTML Code:
[yt]Xx-ju1mUmEc[/yt]

Or, Lucasfilm just decided to start releasing old trailers weekly on their Youtube channel, and that Wednesdays was a good day to do it. After the re-release trailer, they can jump to the SE theatrical trailer, then the prequel trailers....

There's a rumor going around that Ford's contract for Episode VII includes a clause that Disney will have a script prepared for Indy 5 by the end of 2014 and release it in 2016. Meaning Ford would be about 73 or so when the next Indy movie shoots.

You're also assuming Han Solo will be around for all three sequels. I think it's more likely that he'll only be around for one - and that Ford will finally get the "wish" he had for the character in RETURN OF THE JEDI.

Well the rumor was that he would appear over 3 star wars movies and get his Indy movie. Maybe it is not a big role, he just kind of pops up every once in awhile (Like Yoda)

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015, D: Abrams, S: The casts of Star Trek, Lost, Felicit

Disney might be experiencing a disturbance in the Force.

With the Oct. 24 exit of Star Wars: Episode VII writer Michael Arndt, the studio is under the gun to keep the film on course for a 2015 release despite a script that several insiders say isn't close to ready.

According to those close to the project, producer Kathleen Kennedy and most of the film's creative team have asked Disney to push the release to 2016, but studio CEO Robert Iger is adamant that Episode VII -- perhaps the franchise's most anticipated installment since 1999's The Phantom Menace -- not budge. That has created enormous pressure on all involved, with director J.J. Abrams stepping in to take over scripting duties with Lawrence Kasdan, who co-wrote 1980's Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, considered the best film in the series.

For his part, Arndt worked exclusively on Episode VII for most of the past year and already had penned a 40- to 50-page treatment before Lucasfilm was sold to Disney in October 2012. But as one of Hollywood's highest-paid screenwriters, who can command more than $300,000 a week doing rewrites, the Oscar-winning scribe (Little Miss Sunshine) was ready to move on to other projects.

Some sources say Abrams has become autocratic in recent months, wresting some casting control from Kennedy. But others disputed that notion, saying Abrams and Kennedy both have been involved in casting sessions. Unlike Kennedy, Abrams is said to be more in sync with Iger's desire to meet the 2015 release target -- which allows zero margin for error -- at all costs.

Although the 2015 schedule already is full of tentpoles including Disney/Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron, Warner Bros.' Superman-Batman mashup and Lionsgate's final Hunger Games, Iger has crafted a Star Wars game plan that hinges on Episode VII hitting the big screen that summer. The studio is expected to roll out Episodes VII, VIII and IX over a six-year period, with at least two spinoffs -- penned by a team including Kasdan and Simon Kinberg -- interspersed between.

Still, another project insider dismisses talk of problems and what the writer shuffle means for what is perhaps Hollywood's most valued franchise. "It's nothing out of the ordinary," says the insider. "Almost every big movie changes writers at some point. There's no drama here."
Still betting this will get pushed back a year. Disney will already own 2015 with The Avengers sequel. Unless Iger is dead set on the studio breaking the record for most box office revenue in a single year, I don't know why he is refusing to budge on a potential delay.

Iger is a smart cat, If the film is not ready I don't think he will continue to push on 2015. One thing he doesn't want to do is destroy a brand he had just acquired. They have to get Episode VII right.

Nothing says "quality" more than rushing a product to launch! These projects have so many challenges, I hope they do it right.

Actually some great movies have been made when people are up against deadlines...it forces creativity. It's often when something is given plenty of time and money that it winds up sucking.

Your example made me think of Gangs of New York. Didn't Scorcese work on that for two decades?

Disney wants a 2015 release most likely because the have already made deals with Pepsi, McDonalds, Macy's, Wal-Mart, General Mills, Pampers, Pringles and Johnson and Johnson.

Speaking of which, how is the product placement going to work with this film? Because you know they will find a way to shoehorn a bunch of crass cross promotion into this somehow.

It would be interesting to see them do Star Wars shorts like Pixar.

Interesting that Arndt already had some work done for Episode VII before Disney bought LFL. Soeems like a good thing that Abrams agrees with Iger on 2015.

2016 is still a long way off. Pirates 5 is the only big Disney title I can think of that's scheduled.

Exactly how I feel. Just looking at the prequel behind-the-scenes you can see the lack of urgency or desperation. Lucas is standing around with his latte, hemming and hawing. I'm convinced that's partially to blame for the finished films lack of energy....

I'm not saying it's ideal for corporate to be handing down marching orders, but that's what everyone signed up for.... make some hard decisions, anything really... the prequels never had to do that and it showed.

they also have 2 sequels and 2 spin-off movies planned starting in 2015 - a delay on Ep VII could also send 4 other movies into chaos (casting commitments, locations, etc) and Disney can't let that happen.

I can't help but think of the four year delay between Star Trek (2009) and Into Darkness. If I'd had my way, we would have had our trilogy already (09, 11, 13) and we'd be talking about the new TV series (where Trek belongs), but anyways, they had all that time for Into Darkness and we ended up with a relatively entertaining but ultimately warmed over story.

I say squeeze 'em. Put their juevos in a vise and start cranking the handle.

The irony is the Original Star Wars was supposed to come out Christmas 1976, but was delayed til May 1977.

I am starting to sour on the Sequel Trilogy, as I have to wonder if they are going to come up with a fresh story that blends with the 2 previous trilogies, or will it just be alot of rehashing storylines of the other movies tied to different characters this time. Who knows!

So you're souring on the new movies because you don't know how they'll turn out?

I feel the same way about the ST as I do about the Hobbit trilogy. I will see them because they are my top 2 favorite franchises. But I have next to no excitement or anticipation.
