I thought that might have been a rumor too. I guess that could be a really good sign if Affleck has some type of creative control. I think a lot of us were apprehensive about Goyer and Snyder having free reign.

I don't know if it pisses all over him, but it certainly is a leap to believe Superman is following government direction down to the word after the ending of Man of Steel. I imagine his character will be quite different.
Perhaps the story will be more focused on the government trying to recruit Superman to look into Batman. I take "Batman is a bit more experienced" to mean he was the top dog before Superman showed up. Luther will have his on motives against Superman and I expect that both heroes will join forces to stop him by the end.

From the leaked plot details it sounded like Batman would be the one working with the government, I'm not sure if that makes much more sense.

Honestly I'm a bit confused as to why they're basing this on The Dark Knight Returns. Unless they mean that they're just using the Superman vs. Batman aspect of that story it just seems like an odd place to start this film at considering in that story Batman is past his prime and comes out of retirement to fight crime again. I get the idea of wanting an older Batman and I'm fine with that but this being a new start for the character as well as only the second overall entry in the new Superman franchise it just doesn't seem like it makes sense to start there. Batman can be older but I hope they aren't intending on making the character so old that he's basically past his prime and hasn't been active for a number of years like in that particular story.

Its not an adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns. Its just influenced by it. Similar to how Batman Begins was influenced by Year One and The Dark Knight Rises was influenced by Knightfall.

I could see more where the influences of Year One and Knightfall played a role on Batman Begins and The Dark Knight Rises respectively and made sense doing so.

In MOS 2 Superman will retire Batman by giving him a new asshole. Then in MOS 3 a younger batman will take his place that will get his revenge and rip Superman a new asshole as well using Kryptonite.

I guess I just don't understand the choice though, it's still sort of odd. I mean the only aspect of it that makes sense at all is the Superman vs. Batman fight but I'm sure they've had other confrontations that I don't see why they feel the need to base if off of The Dark Knight Returns or even say that it's heavily influenced by it. Plus this is Warner who doesn't seem to have a clue with what they're doing with this film or the DC Cinematic Universe in general...

Right but why does it even have to be based off anything? The story behind The Dark Knight Returns in general isn't really just about the fight between Superman and Batman. That's just a part of it that happens towards the end. The overall story of the graphic novel is about a lot more and I'd argure that's actually a fairly minor point to the whole thing.

Its not based off The Dark Knight Returns. Its not adapting that storyarc at all. It just being influenced by it, like how Batman Begins and Rises were influenced by Year One and Knightfall respectively. The movies weren't based off the comics. They were just influenced by them. I thought I already said this once, but I guess it went in one ear and out the other.

When they name drop The Dark Knight Returns, I think Snyder means that Batman and Superman won't be friendly with each other and that Batman will ultimately take Superman down. It's a horrible storyline for a Superman sequel, but Warner clearly is abandoning any pretense this is a Superman movie.

I read it but I'm just saying generally if something is being adapted and saying it's influenced it has something pretty major to the story that's influenced. The overall story to The Dark Knight Returns is bigger than just the Superman and Batman fight is my only point. Whatever it's mostly a moot point but I'm just saying.
Batman Begins had very little in common with Year One. It was mostly just the use of Falcone and the scene with the Joker playing card at the end.
Rises had very little in common with Knightfall. It was basically just Bane breaking Batman being the only similarity.
Likewise, MoS2 will likely have little in common with The Dark Knight Returns other than Superman and Batman being at odds with each other.

Influenced by =/= adapted

Agreed. Batman and Superman weren't friendly in John Byrne's Man of Steel miniseries either, but this movie is name dropping The Dark Knight Returns instead merely because its more recognizable to the general audience than Byrne's story is.

You've been nitpicking and fretting over every detail about this movie. Just relax, man! You might actually enjoy it.

Meh I've been vocal about not liking a lot of choices they've made thus far but it's not like I'm alone in feeling how I do about the film. Believe it or not I really want this movie to be good I just have very little faith that it will be.

Well the "backup" scene was also lifted directly from Year One. As well as how Gordon looks in BB. As well as Bruce acting like an Überdouche in public to throw people of his figurative scent.

Gordon's look is kind of stretching though. Of course he wasn't born an old gray haired man.

It's my understand that everybody's shooting script has been taken away on set and replaced with the TPB of "The Dark Knight Returns".

This just dawned on me, and I don't know why it didn't earlier. An earlier poster was worried that being influenced by The Dark Knight Returns meant we would get a 60 year old Batman. Well no, that isn't happening considering Affleck already is Batman in the movie. I don't think Affleck has mysteriously aged 20 years in the last few days.
