Of course. This is a fucking Batman movie anyway. Fuck you, WB.

Yup. One wonders if they'll even bother to bring back Perry White, Jenny Olsen (or whoever), Pete Ross, Steve Lombard, or any of the other Superman supporting characters. Then again, it's not like they were unforgettable in MAN OF STEEL.

I thought everyone had realized this was a Superman movie in name only. WB is going to make sure that Batman's fans turn out for this one. By the time it comes out Superman will be off in space for some reason, for half of the film.

It's going to crush me when they have Batman beat Superman in hand-to-hand combat and millions of impressionable tweens think Batman is the stronger character.

I think this movie is such a huge risk for WB. If this happens to suck, it's gonna bring ill will to both characters.

Either movie as a standalone would have made money for WB. I just understand why they had to have these two characters together in the same movie so soon. They could have done this a few years from now after they establish both characters in the DC universe.

I guess we'll see how this plays out.

Yep, and the new X-Men is already half-way there. The new trend isn't going to be multiple villains anymore, it's going to be multiple heroes.

Both franchises have already survived terrible, terrible movies in the past. The average attention span is getting shorter and shorter these days. If it ends up being terrible, they will simply reboot once again.

I think this will end up being a good movie, I just don't think it will be a good Superman movie. Most of the leaked stuff is influenced by The Dark Knight Returns, which was an extremely hostile take on Superman.

I think the look is being influenced by TDKR, but I doubt the story will be. For one thing, Affleck is too young for that kind of story, and for another, this is a lead-in to Justice League, so having Superman be a lackey of a Reagan-esque president doesn't make sense (nor does it make sense given the end of Man of Steel).

I'm actually fine with this. I always loved team books more than solo titles. And as much as I loved BTAS and STAS, I liked Justice League a lot more.

Of course, they have to still build the characters, which is a problem in pretty much every multiple-villain movie.

Which is why I like the Marvel model. Solo films leading up to a team outing. Allows full characterizations for the heroes (and their respective villains) and then we get the spectacle of all of them together.

That is not what DC is doing here.

Multiple villains? I only know of one villain in this movie: DC.

But they're not. DC is a WB property. WB makes all the shots.

Whatever the fuck the movie division of DC is isn't like Marvel.

Marvel calls their own shots. Disney just wants Marvel to make them more money. Which is working... So far. Disney doesn't mess with Marvel Studios' projects.

Point taken. But the way DC editorial is going these days, I don't have high confidence in them either.

They have to this point but I wonder if Disney standing on the sidelines will last. Overall though Marvel Studios has been smarter with their properties so far though. I think Warner and DC were doing fine with The Dark Knight Trilogy and could have done something similar with Superman, but then they got this half assed idea that they needed to do a team up film, which let's face it whether they ever admit it or not is very likely only being done because of the success of The Avengers.

Comparing all this to Avengers is getting old. They started scripting a JLA film in 2007. Its not like they woke up the Monday after Avengers opening weekend in 2012 and said lets do this. Has it lit a fire under their ass, of course. But a film has been in development in some fashion for a while.

Re: Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) (D: Snyder; S: Gadot)

There were rumors about a bunch of stuff that they never moved on. A Superman and Batman film has been talked about since at least the early 2000s. I'm not saying that The Avengers is the sole reason, but I think people are fooling themselves to not believe that was a big factor. I mean the year after that film was released they started putting all this in motion with only one film to lead into everything. The whole project barely feels thought out and like they're just making it up as they go.

Which describes DC as a whole for the last few years. There were many continuity errors in the New 52 reboot before the first year was even done. The New 52 is 3 years old now and the continuity is already a complete fucking mess.

I like Emily Blunt but I hope the cast of this movie won't get too bloated. I want to make sure that we have enough time spent on Affleck and Gadot.

And Cyborg. I bet Cyborg gets as much screentime as Superman does.
