Yeah, that would be a very hard line to sell.

Honestly, I doubt this spoiler is true because of that. They aren't going to use a villain like that this soon. Most other rumors I have seen said that the villain is either
Spoiler:
Metallo or Brainiac or just Luthor again.

Yeah, it does.

I dunno about this. Seems like they're pushing the universe forward too quickly, which is odd considering this is only the second movie in, like, three years.

I have a feeling they will use a Superman villain that won't need to speak too much. The movie is already so packed with characters, they will need a Superman villain that can be intimidating while not chewing up a ton of character development time.

I am still lobbying for the Parasite.

It looks like it was according to this quote.

DC of the late 80s/early 90s must have really hated women. Just a couple years after Joker crippled Barbara Gordon, Kyle Rayner's girlfriend was chopped up into pieces. Then Kyle came home and found the body parts in his refrigerator.

They must have continued to hate them into the 2000s. Sue Dibny, and Spoiler for instance.

Don't forget (in the much-celebrated and highly-overpraised JLI run) that the creative team decided to massively de-power (De)Power Girl while leaving the rest of the team (and her excessive boobage) intact. This after having killed off Supergirl, Katma Tui sliced to pieces by Star Sapphire, Black Canary captured and tortured so severely that she loses her sonic scream in The Long-Bow Hunters...

Way to go, progressive 80s/90s DC!!

True, and it always amused me that Spoiler never got a memorial in the Batcave like Jason did. Batman basically says, "Fuck the bitch."

Ah, yes. Women in refrigerators.

I'm trying to remember if Marvel did anything like that for that period. I can't think of any but I was pretty in Spidey in the 90s. *sigh* I didn't know better during that clone bit. Reilly went out well though. I did like how they end Peter Parker: Spider-Man.

Wasn't that in Justice League Europe?

Katma Tui didn't even go out in a hero's death. She's in the kitchen, Star Sapphire is shown waving her hand around and next issue Jon Stewart finds his wife dead on the floor.

I haven't read the issue but I don't think that Supergirl's death was necessarily an example of misogyny or women in refrigerators. Byrne was revamping Superman and wanted to make him unique so they got rid of Supergirl, Superboy, and Krypto. Wonder Woman was also killed in COIE but that's because they were doing a revamp like MOS.

Mark Waid killed off Ice in the 90s, then admitted it was "a mistake".

Spoiler:
Doomsday
is in the movie. Devin's as good as they come when posting spoilers.

The JLI concept encompasses the JL, JLI, JLA, and JLE titles when they was under creative control of Giffen, DeMatteis, etc. And then there was that abysmal period when DC gave Gerard Jones keys to the kingdom to almost every major title he wanted. Eesh.

Unbelievable right? Hey but if it makes the male protagonist that much of a stronger character, butcher his woman!

Supergirl's death wasn't WiR-symptomatic (although I still think it was a bad idea, as well as getting rid of the Superboy history and wrecking the Legion, but that's neither here nor there) but it sent the wrong message to editorial. First Supergirl, then Batgirl, then Black Canary, Power Girl, Katma Tui, etc.

Aunt May died in Amazing Spider-Man #400. That was actually a very good way to kill off a character. It definitely brought tears to my eyes. One of the best comic deaths ever, and then they ruined in by retconning it so that a "genetic actress" was who actually died and not the real Aunt May.

In the 80s, Marvel did the whole thing with Karen Page (Daredevil's girl) getting addicted to drugs. She started making porno too. She ended up selling Daredevil's secret identity just to get her drug fix. Then she was killed by Bullseye. (Bullseye also killed Elektra too so that's two female characters he has killed.)

Peter Parker knocked Mary Jane across the room, an effort by the editors at the time to lend credence to the idea that he was clone and that the real Peter Parker aka Ben Reilly would never do that.

I hated the clone storyline but looking back I wonder if I would have accepted it more if the art and writing had been better.

I always liked Ben Reilly's costume and had they had artists like Brett Booth illustrating Amazing Spider-man I might have stuck around. There were also some little moments that made sense, like when Ben Reilly wonders how Peter could have allowed a psychopath like Eddie Brock/Venom to roam free, the implication being the REAL Spider-man wouldn't have done that.

No. A blonde Peter Parker who goes by the name Ben Reilly I could never accept. Especially with Mary Jane out of the picture. What were you thinking Marvel?

Who the squirming afterbirth was Backlash? I read Image comics back in the day and I can't even...

(Yes I could Google it but this is entirely rhetorical.)

Also don't forget Marvel has Hank "wife beater" Pym.

The Ultimate Marvel version of Hank beating Janet was especially brutal.

Re: Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) (D: Snyder; S: Gadot)

@taffer

Yeah, I was sad for Spidey when May passed. The Karen Page thing was good though, yeah... she came back w/ so much shit on her but it sure as hell made a great story. Her end wasn't all that hot though. DD wasn't that hot in that period from what I hear. I actually gave not a shit for DD before I was introduced to King of Hell's Kitchen. Hell of a reintroduction to me w/ that character.

Usually I don't feel bad for characters but holy fuck. They wouldn't let Hank go about slapping Janet. That shit kept coming back to bite every couple of years or so. I mean, yeah... he was a dick to do that but the way they wouldn't let it go. You'd swear he really beat her in the 616. Then when I saw the images... it wasn't anywhere as bad as the way they kept bringing up w/ such malice towards him.

To be fair, everyone died a very brutal death in Ultimatum.
