That's a lot different if you ask me though. The DCAU films are more targeted towards a comic reading audience or at least people who have watched previous films or shows from the DCAU. For the most part people who watch those will know some of the history to the characters. Casual fans generally aren't the type to watch animated features or view them for children mostly. Putting something like that in a live action film that's geared more towards a casual audience won't make a lot of sense to people who aren't familiar with some of the backstory of these characters.

Spoiler:
Jason Todd never appeared in the DCAU before that movie. Remember BTAS skipped Jason and went straight to Tim. So people unfamiliar with the comics never heard of Jason before that movie. I think you overestimate how much overlap there is between the cartoon audience and the comic book audience. Many people watch cartoons but don't necessarily read comics. Millions of people watch cartoons, but only a few hundred thousand people read comics.

Spoiler:
I would bet that more people who watch the shows and those films are familiar at least somewhat with the comics though. As for Batman: The Animated Series skipping Jason I'm aware of that but at least in that instance you had Dick and Tim established as Robin at some point in time. Given that there were two Robin's featured in essentially the same universe it wouldn't have been a hard thing for a viewer to grasp that a different character was Robin in the events of Under The Red Hood. In the live action films we've only ever seen Dick Grayson as Robin (and I don't consider John Blake as an official Robin) and he's basically every casual knows as Robin.

I kind of wish we could see a long movie arc across 4-5 movies where we see something like the transition from Dick to Jason, Jason's death, and something like the Red Hood story. Alas...
Yeah, that's one of the things that's bothering me. So much of what we're hearing seems like it should be "phase 3" stuff; seems like they're dropping a hell of a lot of backstory onto Batfleck.

Maybe it will work. Maybe it won't. Almost seems like they're trying to play catch-up with the MCU by jumping right into a phase 3.

Spoiler:
It worked well for me too, but touching upon what Mike86 is saying it's hard to say how well it would work for the masses in live action. Especially with a Robin that audiences aren't familiar with; i'm not sure if it would as much emotional weight if the character wasn't already established and known.

Captain America was a little rushed introducing Winter Soldier right away, but at least it was handled in a separate movie. I made a remark in the X-Men thread about Angel/Archangel and my disappointment if that story is confined to a single movie, so it's not just about DC here. I actually like that the Batman in this universe has/had a Robin already there, it just would have been nice to see the Dick/Nightwing split on screen, as well as Jason's death. Just a personal preference in letting these things develop slowly and seeing characters change and evolve.

Hell it seems almost later than Phase 3 DC at this point at least in regards to how they're handling Batman. Some of the Batman related stuff in this film almost sounds like its the tale end of Bruce's career as Batman. If everything that's being said is true so much of this stuff doesn't happen until much later. I get that they're wanting an established universe already in place for these new films but they're starting at a really awkward place in Batman's career to me. It seems like they're throwing a lot of backstory stuff in that hasn't really been explored in the past and expecting casual fans to just accept it right off the bat. I have to think if a fan such as myself is wary of it that casual fans are going to be even more offput by the way the character is being handled.

All it takes is a simple bit of recasting.

Re: Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) (D: Snyder; S: Gadot)

http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/04/...ts-on-thursday

A five second teaser trailer is rumored to be released this Thursday. Then the full trailer will be attached to Age of Ultron.

A five second teaser? Seriously what is the point of that? This "trailer for a trailer" nonsense is getting out of hand.

Also, attaching a DC trailer to a Marvel movie just sounds weird. I bet half the audience will be like, "Herp a derp. Are Batman and Superman coming to Marvel? Herp a derp."

Why not attach it to Avengers? It's going to have a heck a lot more exposure versus, say, Mad Max: Fury Road.

Yes, I know. AOU is the biggest summer movie. It just seems weird to see DC and Marvel together, because they are rivals.

5 second trailer?

Would go something like this:

*Hans Zimmer Batman music plays*

Batman: "I farted."

Coming 2016

What happened to it being attached to Mad Max to get more exposure (the reason being everyone seeing Avengers would only be talking about Avengers, not BvS)?

It's really weird to see any other studios' trailers in front of their competitor's film. That's like crazy and shit.

Yeah, but DC and Marvel aren't just simple competitors. They are rivals. Ford and Chevy. Pepsi and Coke. Apple and Android. Playstation and Xbox. Dogs and Cats living together! Mass hysteria!!!

A five second trailer is ridiculous. That's basically time for the title card/date and a quick glimpse of Batman and Superman. I don't see why they'd even bother doing that.

I would wager that Disney wouldn't want their tentpole superhero movie used to promote their rival superhero franchise.

It's not quite the same as attaching a Star Trek preview onto a Hobbit movie; The MCU and DCCU are direct competitors.

I'd be really, really surprised to see a BvS trailer play before A:AoU.

There were Dark Knight trailers before Iron Man and Green Lantern trailers before Thor. The studios care a lot less about this than fans do, they just want their trailers in front of a lot of receptive eyes.

Yeah, I know i've seen other comic book trailers in front of comic book movies from other studios. I don't think it's that weird, let alone confusing or that people automatically assume trailers mean it's in the same universe.
