Man of Steel was pretty awful (seriously, it was the worlds longest movie trailer), but I do have hope for the sequel since the cast was pretty great.

Those original 1930s/early 1940s comics were very heavily inspired by pulp noir.
The religious allegories didn't get introduced until many decades later.

Thank you. I'm not too knowledgeable about early Superman comics and mistakenly assumed the Moses allegory was there from a start.

re: Untitled Superman & Batman Film (2015) (D: Snyder; S: Cavill, Affleck)
I have read some of those early Superman and Batman comics in Golden Age trade collections, and they are pretty freaking violent for the time in which they were written. Both Superman and Batman killed. I remember a few stories in which Superman would do things like throwing a normal dude through a brick wall or pulling someone into the path of his own bullet. Those stories make Snyder's Man of Steel look like an innocent choir boy in comparison. Its the reason the CCA (Comics Code Authority) was established in the early 1950s, because of the public outcry of how violent the comics were. Then of course the comics went the complete opposite direction with the cheeseball Adam West type of stuff.

For the lazy:
As Cosmic Book News previously was informed, Lex Luthor has been cast in the Man of Steel sequel that will feature Ben Affleck as Batman and Henry Cavill as Superman. Now we have been told a batch of new details, on top of why Affleck was chosen as Batman. Bryan Cranston has been cast as Lex Luthor in what is said to be at least a six "appearance" deal (think of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury popping up in every Marvel movie in the run-up to Avengers) and may be as high as ten. Look for the official announcement to follow the conclusion to the final season of Breaking Bad as WB wants to dovetail off the end of that. Regarding Ben Affleck, we are told he has allegedly a 13-appearance deal for Batman. DC is going to have all of their main characters liberally appearing or at least mentioned in all of their movies to portray a more connected world than what Marvel Studios has done so far. DC also does have major interest in bringing Matt Damon into the Justice League now that Affleck is on board, and it is rumored that he is being considered for Aquaman or Martian Manhunter. Regarding Mark Strong playing Lex Luthor, the one thing that worked a bit against him was that he was already Sinestro -- and still could be again. "Cranston truly is a dream casting for Luthor," we're told.

They are on record with the Moses allegory. Although it was more of a nod to "Gladiator" than anything really biblical.

Not according to wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Origin_of_Superman
Then of course there is the original pre-DC Comics Superman story from 1933 that Siegel and Shuster wrote called The Reign of the Superman in which Superman was an evil alien attempting to take over the world.

So no, Superman did not have any religious allegories.

Because Siegel and Shuster were both Jewish, some religious commentators and pop-culture scholars such as Rabbi Simcha Weinstein and British novelist Howard Jacobson suggest that Superman's creation was partly influenced by Moses[11][12] and other Jewish elements. However, Siegel and Shuster claim that having Superman drop out of the sky just seemed like a good idea.[6]

I don't think a Robin who is just a year older than Batman is old enough. They should finally give Abe Vigoda his time in the tights.

I know Padalecki from Gilmore Girls!
(in my defense, I had a girlfriend at the time, also, I kinda' liked the show...)

Are people still playing the it's cool to hate on Robin game? I thought we were over this by now. Honestly I'd be for having the character if it was handled well. I think with an older Batman you could pull off having a slightly older Robin (maybe mid twenties or so) who lives on his own rather than with Bruce and with the more modern costume and have them work together. Eventually they could spin the character off for Nightwing possibly.
