re: Untitled Superman & Batman Film (2015) (D: Snyder; S: Cavill, Affleck)
The modern day Robin resembles Burt Ward about as much as modern day Batman still resembles Adam West. Which is to say not at all.
A character like Tim Drake or Damian Wayne as Robin could work well in the movies.

Go figure the folks in Movie Talk have never heard of Jared Padalecki or have never seen Supernatural.

Somebody posted this on Deadline:
From the LA Times… 1988
“Mr. Mom as Batman?
July 03, 1988
So Michael Keaton has been cast as Batman/Bruce Wayne?
He might have made a good Joker, but his comic style, which he seems unable to shake (but can amplify), has doomed this promised “serious” treatment of Bob Kane’s character to the same tired, boring level of artificial “camp” that made the TV series a hit yet simultaneously doomed it to an early cancellation.
The painful lesson of “Superman III”–when you don’t treat venerable superheroes with respect the audience rejects the property–has been ignored in this cynical, opportunistic attempt to capitalize on the success of “Beetlejuice” (same director, same star).
The Sam Hamm script that director Tim Burton is filming has many blunders, but does treat the characters basically seriously. Obviously, in casting Keaton, Burton is rejecting this approach altogether and going after a manic comedy.
Batman has been a popular character for almost five decades–not because he is a figure of comedy, but precisely because he is \o7 not\f7 , especially in the last couple of years. By ignoring this, by casting a clown as Batman, Warner Bros. and Burton have defecated on the history of Batman and on the hopes of those who appreciate the character and his potential.
Better they should have filmed Frank Miller’s “Batman: the Dark Knight Returns.” But that would have required courage, taste and imagination.

Wrong. Clark's adoption by the Kents was in the very first story from 1938, and his escape from "a distant planet" clearly has connections with the Book of Exodus. Even his name, Kal-El, means "voice of God".

Whether it's cool or not is irrelevant to me. We're discussing superhero movies for ffs, so I don't think being "cool" fits into the discussion to begin with. I don't like Robin because I don't like Batman having a sidekick.

That just remained a test phase though, because they deliberately changed their minds about Superman's inner character. The "evil scientist" stereotype was later fleshed out for Lex Luthor.

Lastnight at a Don Jon screening, Joseph Gordon-Levitt was asked what he thought about the news. He shook his head, smiled, and said "Ben Affleck's a great actor". End answer. Next question was about a possible ROBIN movie. The Q&A had gone so well until then.
As for the internet bluster over this, I'll let Affleck himself weigh in.

Sources say that Affleck has been signed for multiple other movies. The talks were so secretive that many Warner execs and most WME agents remained unaware of their existence.

And you don't know the difference between the two as was proven the other day in the religious forum.

You completely ignored the quote I pulled from wikipedia that says Siegel and Shuster denied that they intended any religious allegories. It was only ever claimed by religious people reading too much into it.
Have you ever even read any of those early Superman stories? I described their extreme violence earlier. You really think a character that violent was intended to be based on Moses or Jesus?
Why not? Batman and Robin have come a long long way since the Adam West/Burt Ward era. It does make sense logically that Batman would want an heir to take over the cowl when he retires or dies. The modern Robin even makes more sense because he is Bruce's own son, Damian Wayne. Damian is quite the badass too, since his mother is Talia, he was secretly raised by the League of Shadows. So he's been trained as a master assassin since birth.

Loved Ben in Argo, I hope he can pull the Bats off correctly.
My guess is that Ben will be a more Detective/smart Batman.
It better be good.

In case this was missed from the link in that Luthor article...
Cosmic Book News has learned a few details about the casting process and decision that went into the new Batman from a source close to Warner Bros. As we previously told you, Tyler Hoechlin was up for the role and was given heavy consideration. We are also told that Karl Urban was up to be the new Batman, but his schedule prevented it. Regarding Ben Affleck, he was #3 on the list, behind the two aforementioned names. We've been told WB went with Affleck because they love his dedication as an actor and director. It's said Ben Affleck made a "HUGE" positive impression on Warner Bros. during the Justice League talks, "they feel he truly gets it."

El to Elohim is a bit of a stretch. If Kal also has some Biblical reference it would be less of a stretch.
Oh, and we all know Wikipedia's 100% reliable about everything...oh, wait...
Jesus was loving and graceful, but He wasn't soft. He drove a whole crowd of money-changers out of Solomon's Temple with a triple-cord, braided whip! Jesus was no wuss.

There's no such thing as "Messianic Jews". They are, technically "Christians". Or more colloquially, "Jews For Jesus".
Which is a cult.
And they didn't exist in 1938.
And Siegel and Shuster weren't Orthodox, either.
