That's why I said "more or less." I didn't feel like adding a footnote to my point. I also didn't mention the period when Hal was a truck driver.

It was a pretty significant part of GL history though, and it certainly wasn't a brief period either.

For kids that grew up with post-COIE DC comics, such as myself, Kyle Rayner was "my" Green Lantern. Neither Hal nor John were.

Just like Wally was "my" Flash instead of Barry.

re: Untitled Superman & Batman Film (2015) (D: Snyder; S: Cavill, Affleck)

White, black, the truth is that most people in the mainstream don't know or care who the fuck Green Lantern is. I consider myself fairly nerdy as I spend a lot of time on movie websites, and doing other nerdy things like playing video games, watching some anime from time to time, but I barely know anything about Green Lantern. I come to these threads about comic book characters and you guys put me to shame at the level of obsessive nerdiness.

It's ridiculous to see you guys argue about whether the general public knows Green Lantern as black or white. They don't care. They see a big action blockbuster come around with cool special effects, they don't take the time to go to wikipedia and discover the background of the character as it pertains to the comics. This stuff may be important to people like us, but the general public just wants to be entertained for a couple of hours. And those are the people that the movie studios want to win over. They've already got your money.

Wouldn't it be funny if all they did was borrow the suit fabricated for The Dark Knight XXX? Then again, that was a pretty badass suit (based on the Arkham Asylum suit):

At the end of Blackest Night, the White Lanterns were introduced, and I remember people joking that John Stewart would be the first.

I'd definitely go for that Batsuit, but that is Jim Lee's classic version from the old DC Universe. His new 52 suit has more pouches...or something.

I think people over 30 believe Green Lantern was a white guy, from Superfriends and 40 years of comics. There is the group of kids that grew up on Justice League cartoons, that only knew the John Stewart GL. Don't even get started on the different Lantern colors, the comics now have Red Lanterns, White Lanterns, Pink Lanterns, etc...

Pouches were Liefeld's thing. His pouches had pouches. Pouches everywhere.

Lee's thing is giving everyone armor with seams everywhere. Its a lot of unnecessary busy lines. Even Superman has armor in the New 52.

You don't like all the different Lantern Corps?

Thanks, I like that suit. It is not as tactical/armored previously, but does he really need something as bulky as TDK? Although I do like the Arkham Orgins suit. I guess I'll be good with either. I do like the Grey look.

Is this also the 52 suit? I like this one as well:

It looks like it, but this one looked more armor on certain pieces, like it is a variant.

Spoiler:

Yes, it says its based on Jim Lee's Justice League #1 (2011) design.

It just looks differently because different artists have their own unique styles.

That picture says its drawn by Cully Hammer. I have no idea who that is.

The actual Justice League art its based on is drawn by Jim Lee. I showed his art here.

The picture from Batman #10 a few posts back was drawn by Greg Capullo. I really love Capullo's art. He's one of my favorite current artists.

I don't mind them but I think they would be horribly confusing to non-comic readers. They are the type of idea that can only be successful if the readers know decades of GL history.

That would pretty much sum up all of DC and Marvel for the last 15 or so years. Comics in general don't really even try to cater to new readers anymore.

Cully Hammer is a very awesome artist who has been around DC for awhile. I think his first book was Green Lantern: Mosaic. He was the co-creator of RED with Warren Ellis.

He signed an exclusive contract with DC and worked on The Question back up in Detective Comics and Issue #1 of Robinson's The Shade mini. Jim Lee enlisted him to help with the redesign the DC characters for the New 52.

Yeah, I looked him up on wikipedia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cully_Hamner

I am a huge DC fanboy, but I never heard of him. I guess maybe because looking at his bibliography it doesn't look like he has a definitive "run" like many writers and artists. His work just seems scattershot with pieces here and there. Almost like he is a fill-in artist for when the regular artist is absent or whatever.

re: Untitled Superman & Batman Film (2015) (D: Snyder; S: Cavill, Affleck)

All the BATMAN VS SUPERMAN news lately has been Wonder Woman and Nightwing rumors, but what about Lex Luthor? It was rumored Bryan Cranston had been cast as Luthor for the new film, however the actor denied it back in September, and we haven't heard anything since.

Now Superman Super Site has learned from several sources who are close to the production for the film that Terry O'Quinn is on a shortlist to play Lex Luthor in BATMAN VS SUPERMAN. The Lost actor is only the latest contender for the part though, and not a lock (heh, get it?), but Zack Snyder is interested in O'Quinn for Lex Luthor.

Terry O'Quinn could potentially be a great Lex Luthor, but it really depends on how the character will be used in the film. Will he just be the man behind the curtain, pulling the strings? I know that's what he primarily does in the comics, but he also occasionally punches shit, and that's something we haven't seen too much of in previous movies with the character. It'll be interesting to see how Lex Luthor will be handled in the new movie.
BATMAN VS SUPERMAN starring Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill will hit theaters July 17th, 2015.

I think he'd make an awesome Lex, assuming he won't have to be a physical adversary.

re: Untitled Superman & Batman Film (2015) (D: Snyder; S: Cavill, Affleck)

Green Lantern is a chipmunk.

John Stewart was basically a nod to diversity in the early 80s (around the same time Tony Stark was replaced by James Rhodes in Iron Man), but before Timm and co. made him a focus of Justice League, he didn't have much of a track record... I can't remember anyone saying that he was their favorite GL before that, and his main "accomplishments" were failing his wife and failing to save an entire planet. Stewart and Hawkgirl were obviously brought into the cartoon to bring diversity to the otherwise all white (ok, one green), male dominant cast, at the expense of Hal and Aquaman.

Cyborg is the current nod to diversity in the new 52 Justice League.
