Why couldn't this movie be a story that happens before the end of Rises?

What I've heard is that it's not a soft reboot of the Nolan series, but rather it's a direct sequel to Superman III.

No, that's the exact opposite of what I was saying. I wasn't confused going from Adam West to Michael Keaton, and as I said I was able to play the video game without being completely confused.

Batman, and superheroes in general, exist in an open universe where things are constantly retconned. I don't see this series losing a single dollar because people think Bale's Batman is retired and can't grasp why Affleck is playing him in a new movie. There could be other factors, sure, but the Batman character will bring in way more fans than not.

At what point would it fit? Plus, it would be pretty dickish of Superman not to show up and help when Bane took over Gothem.

But what do I know? Certainly the WW reveal being tweeted out also helped the film's standing in terms of retweets.
I wouldn't disagree, my point is that it's the girls that are posting to Twitter. Male comic fans have been posting to entertainment sites like this one, JoBlo, AICN, etc, for years, whereas girls are more drawn to social media sites like Twitter. I'm not surprised at all at the results.

As for Teen Wolf, I think you're underestimating its popularity, it seems to be a big hit with young women, they've all ready aired 4 seasons of it. In fact, if you google Teen Wolf you'll see more results for the TV series than for the Michael J. Fox movie. C'mon, it's about a sexy guy who gets cranky once a month, rips off his shirt, and turns into a raging hell beast. It may fly under your radar, but you're not the target audience:

@Majorjoe, I've heard that said before but it really can be explained away by just about anything.
He was doing something else.

And can't you say that about any comic that takes place in DC?
Where was superman, why didn't he help the flash when he needed help?

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is the obvious one. Not much else I can think of.

I know that prequels didn't really start being a thing until much later, but they were literally the only way to do a follow-up to Highlander without completely fucking it up. And the first movie already had extensive flashbacks showing the immortals in all different sorts of time periods; having a follow-up that did the same thing, with the "modern" segments taking place just before the first movie, wouldn't have seemed odd at all.

"Gothem"? Is that a suburb in Blüdhaven?

No, honestly this film needs to leave The Dark Knight Trilogy alone. That version of Batman had it's time and is finished and doesn't need to be amended because DC can't figure out what the fuck they're doing with their film universe. Honestly if this new film tries to incorporate itself into the Nolan films at all or tries to be a "soft reboot" and tries to pick and choose what is and isn't in continuity or whatever it's going to be terribly lame.

I just hope we don't get another Batman origin in this film. We all know how that went down.

I think we'll simply find out that this Batman is spun off from the Arkham games. So I guess Batfleck will be dubbed by Kevin Conroy.

...of course there will be a Batman origin. Just like we had to have a Spider-Man origin in the Garfield version.

Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if we get Superman's origin again.

There might be one sometime down the road when the character is inevitably rebooted again, but Affleck's Batman is apparently already established so we won't see it this go round.

If they hired Conroy (or Keaton, or Kilmer, or even fucking Clooney) to dub Bale in the Nolan trilogy, I'd actually be able to watch those movies without laughing every time Batman speaks.

I think you're mistaken. I hear Snyder is running screen tests for a CGI version of Christopher Reeve to be used in place of Cavill, though this movie will still be set in MOS continuity.

Left without comment from the Variety article:

Marvel did well with “Age of Ultron,” generating 173,782 mentions and 22,648 (13%) intent-to-view mentions, putting the 2015 release as the fifth most buzzed about title at Comic-Con, following “Batman v. Superman,” “Mad Max, “The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies” and “Guardians of the Galaxy,” Way to Blue said.

What's so wrong about Bale when he speaks as Batman?

Ah, my mistake, and I agree with your sentiment.

My concerns are about what happen after this movie. If they build this incarnation of Batman on the Miller graphic novel version, I don't see anywhere for the character to go but down. And, like many other posters (who are being mocked for having a different opinion), I'm tired and bored with the hopeless Batman ethos.

I'm guessing they'll handle it much the same way Sam Hamm did in his script for Burton's Batman. We'll get some passing mention about his dead parents, maybe a brief flashback, and Bruce waxing philosophical as to why he chose to become Batman.

Have you SEEN the officially released pics of Batfleck? If they're any indication, he's All Broody All The Time.

Make it happen concurrent with Rises. Much like Ultimatum was for Supremacy in the Bourne series. That way the plothole of how Bruce got back to Gotham won't be anymore. Because the answer will be Superman flew him back. :-)
