Given this trilogy, I'll remain skeptical.

"No one's ever really gone."

Hearing that laugh at the end of the trailer, I'm going to guess the big baddie in "TRoS" is

I am guessing he is some kind of spirit presence or something.

Cautiously optimistic based on the lack of Rose Rose in the trailer.

JJ Abrams may not make the most original movies, but the guy atleast understands the spirit of the OT movies as Episode 9 will get back to the OT/TFA tone.

Star Wars.com confirms its Palpatine at the end.

5. That sinister laugh. Speaking of laughter, the sinister and unmistakable sound of Emperor Palpatine laughing on a screen that’s faded to black is nothing short of chilling.

Was that the guy playing Palpatine on stage at the end before they replayed the trailer?

He missed the mark in Episode 7 by running the same damn story as Episode 4. So you’re right, he doesn’t make the most original movies. Nor did it feel like an OT Iike in 7, but an attempt to copy the look and feel. Sure as hell didn’t feel like an OT one, but it looked pretty.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (12/20/19, W/D: J.J. Abrams)

Solid trailer. Visuals weren't anything special, especially since it looks like we're once again going to Tattooine/Jakku. But the music really is essential to Star Wars. And that, combined with the dialogue by Mark Hamill made it great. I thought Billy Dee Williams was too old to bring back, and I didn't like the idea of seeing all these characters I grew up with coming back as senior citizens, but I'm glad Lando is back in this one.

Some hater comments, observations and possible spoilers:

Spoiler:

On one hand, I like the familiarity of bringing back the wreckage of the Death Star and probably the Emperor too.
On the other, it seems lazy as ideas go, which is par for the course in this new trilogy. Disney has been playing it safe by recycling the visuals and a lot of the structure of the OT, while borrowing a bit from the EU (a new Jedi Academy, Vader's grandson named "Ben," the Emperor returning).
Maybe that's the best approach for this franchise though. If you do something too different you run the risk of it not "feeling" like Star Wars.

In a Saturday Morning cartoon way, I think it's nice that the Emperor is returning. It feels like this is a direct sequel to Return of the Jedi in a way. However, I never liked the Emperor or the actor's portrayal. It's pretty much Mr. Burns cackling, "Bwahahaha...I'm e-viiiil!"
Maybe this explains why Snoke was so lame in everything from name to design. They didn't want to waste a cool villain getting killed so quickly. The Emperor was pulling the strings all along.

Sand planet once again. I can sympathize with Anakin's hatred of it now. Let's see some new planets. Probably there's a secret to Rey's parentage that Kylo was lying about, so she goes back to Jakku, or maybe it's Tattooine and there's a secret related to the Skywalkers.

It looks like Kylo is cutting down one of the Knights of Ren.

And is Rose back?

Overall, I like the vibe of the teaser. It's making it seem like this is the end of the saga, everything coming full circle, going back to Tattooine/Jakku, Emperor, Death Star etc.

That was Anthony Daniels (next to Kathleen Kennedy).

No it wasn't. McDiarmid came out before they replayed the trailer a second time.

Kind of weird that they're not keeping that under wraps as this makes it seem like he'll be a big part of it (and there goes my "he's just a spirit" theory), but they probably figure it will get people intrigued, which it will.

Well I doubt he's alive. It has to be a flashback or vision or a Force ghost situation.
