Maybe I'm not looking hard enough but I didn't see anything in that trailer that said RoTJ to me. The shot of the Star Destroyer coming out of the water or whatever it was was just a great visual to me.

Well, the last shot of Rey and Ren fighting in front of Palpatine just like Vader and Luke in ROTJ.

Lando flying the Falcon into battle.

Desert planet with flying skiff.

ROTJ references abound.

I'm not a hater of The Last Jedi, but that trailer felt flat to me.

We shouldn't be allowed to mention how much we dislike TLJ even though this film is a sequel to it. Now people who think it looks like ROTJ can't mention that either. I guess unless you are going to jerk off over everything Star Wars you should just stay out of the threads.

The underlying concept in all of these sequel trilogy films has been to use every idea that was discarded back in the ‘80s.

Just checked and my 9am showing is starting to fill up but I still have an empty seat on both sides of me. Won't stay that way, I'm sure. But the good thing is they are single seats.

Dude, it's the last of the original series. 9 movies, 40+ years. See it on the big screen where it should be seen. Unless you seriously don't care and that's your choice. But for me personally something like Star Wars and Endgame should be seen on the big screen if possible. It's an Event film. Not something you should hold back on many months for a freebie.

I think it's a smart idea in principal because there's likely to be some visual consistency from the well-loved OT and these new films.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (12/20/19, W/D: J.J. Abrams)

9:30AM Saturday for my bro-in-law and I, dead center 2/3 of the way back where I like it.

And looking at the trailer I can only think that the scene with the horses on there they are in the atmosphere but they are rising it appears. So the destroyer must have been in the water like we see in the one scene and the horses jumped on I'm guessing. No matter what, we have less than 2 months to wait.

And yeah, I hardly go to the theaters anymore BUT for Star Wars I have ALWAYS gone. It is the one series that the experience of a packed theater opening weekend is a MUST for me. I'll admit though now I have only made sure to go opening weekend vs. trying to get opening night even though that was so cool back in the day. Only thing better now is reserving my seat where I want to sit.

Yeah, I think those are the Star Destroyers that rose out of the ice. Even though they've risen some, there's still clouds and lightning, so still within the atmosphere of a planet.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (12/20/19, W/D: J.J. Abrams)

As a person who liked (didn't love) the trailer, I'm still very suprised there wasn't a money shot, or money shot of dialogue that previous SW trailers did before to get everyone juiced. I think of Han Solo in TFA trailer, "It's true, all of it!!" playing to that great John Williams score gives me goosebumps even as I type it. The bottom line is whatever you think about the PT and ST, those trailers were always great and got you juiced. Maybe it's a good thing that the movie is sort of tempering expectatons and letting the new cast truly shine? Maybe JJ and Disney are holding back on iconic money shots of Palpatine and Luke that will blow everyone away in December? Or maybe there isn't a money shot and they don't have much faith in this movie as this is all they could give the fans?

If Palpatine has been hiding out for 30 years and plotting all this how can he seriously not win this time? Enough time has passed where he shouldn’t be done in by anymore exposed thermal ports. There is just no satisfactory way to end it all since they have backed themselves into this corner.

Maybe this will be the real ESB 2.0?

If Kylo Ren throws the Emperor down a thermal port because he is torturing Rey with force lightning I will rip my seat out of the floor and throw it at the movie screen.

I'm excited, but then again I was excited when Caravan of Courage and The Battle of Endor were shown on TV. Yep, I'm a sucker for Star Wars and my expectations are really low therefore I will enjoy it for sure.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (12/20/19, W/D: J.J. Abrams)

the Han Solo "we're home" shot from TFA trailer made me nearly weep.

nothing has come close in the sequel trilogy since.

too bad they let it known Lando was in this and then showed it here...

rumor has it
Spoiler:
Wedge
will be in it too, but I am skeptical.

The saga will go out not with a bang, but a whimper.
