That's just the nature of plenty of people. If people really like something and others don't, people kind of get pissed. The same goes when people really dislike something and others like it.

Re: The Hateful Eight (Tarantino, 2015) — The Reviews Thread — SPOILERS

It's becoming more and more common now a days with social isolation and group polarization. It has become a circle jerk bubble on the internet with those who share similar opinions and so what if others didn't find it as a masterstroke as you did. To suggest someone can't form a valid opinion simply because they went out for a few minutes to relieve themselves?

Come on now.

I mean, probably the biggest thing I enjoyed about this film was the soundtrack. Though I could do without the lines of the movie interjected between tracks. queue in someone telling me that I should expect that since every other QT film soundtrack did the same thing.

On to the jokes.

Goddamn, Tarantino, is no film safe from your thievery when you'll even steal from yourself?!

Talking about you though... are you physically ok? Seems like your bladder may have issues if you can't take certain run times to casually hold it. Drink enough water and all that bs.

If I take anything to drink into the theater with me, it's almost guaranteed that I will have to go to the bathroom at some point. Because of this, I usually don't buy anything to drink unless I'm with my wife and/or kids. I brought a drink into Hateful Eight 70mm, because I knew about the intermission, which came at a good time for me.

That duel emoji is cool. I don't think I've ever seen someone use it before.

Yeah, I generally have to pee a lot, even waking up three or four times a night to do so. I'm due for a physical and blood test soon. I'll ask the doctor about it. Thanks for your concern.

In other news, Box Office Guru had this to say about THE HATEFUL EIGHT:

Collapsing in sixth place was the eighth film from Quentin Tarantino, The Hateful Eight which fell 60% from last weekend despite adding over 450 theaters. It took in an estimated $6.35M this weekend bringing its total up to $41.5M. So let's kindly forget my thoughts from last week where I said it had a shot at hitting $100M, shall we?
I'm guessing word-of-mouth is killing it.

Ash Ketchum, seems likely that you have an enlarged prostate...not an uncommon issue at all...a routine surgical procedure should remedy things.

So is there anywhere still showing this in 70 mm?

He's a DVDtalk member, everything in that area has to be enlarged to join the site. Did you not get the sign-up physical?

Well, the per-screen average of the 70mm version was more than $55K per screen, about double the per-screen average of Star Wars.

Saw it and liked it very much. Someone posted this over at imdb. Pretty indicative of our gun debate in this country.

http://edition.cnn.com/2014/01/17/sh...ovie-violence/

Harvey Weinstein vows in 2012 to stop making films with excessive violence. He also pitches his up coming Meryl Streep film about a senator taking down the NRA. Well that project didn't take off so I guess old Harv decided to make Hateful Eight instead.

Re: The Hateful Eight (Tarantino, 2015) — The Reviews Thread — SPOILERS

Well, I finally had a chance to see this today and...

Meh. It was very good for a while (probably the first 2/3, which I really liked), but I really didn't like the last third all that much, and the ending flat out sucked, IMO. (If you can call it an ending.)

For me the movie went downhill (or off a cliff) when...

Spoiler:
John Ruth dies.

After that the movie lost me a bit. It's like QT was making another really special movie (like Jackie Brown, Inglorious Basterds, and Django), but then just reverted to pulpy, grindhouse stuff for the last third.

Overall I wouldn't say it's bad, but given how much I love Jackie Brown, Inglorious Basterds, and Django Unchained I was really disappointed. QT could have done much better, and given that he isn't likely going to do another Western it's a real letdown.

I have no interest in watching this again (whereas I will re-watch the movies I mentioned previously, as well as Kill Bill 1 & 2 several times). No blu ray purchase for me.

Re: The Hateful Eight (Tarantino, 2015) — The Reviews Thread — SPOILERS

If you leave to piss during the intermission then you are not taking in the full experience and cannot give your opinion on this flick. Come back when you piss less. In all seriousness, I have to piss at least twice during almost every movie that I see but I think that I can still give my opinion aside from the 2-3 minutes tops that I might miss of a movie. If a particular couple of minutes of a movie, aside from the ending, make or break a movie then it probably isn't really that good in the first place. At least Ketchum isn't being like Ntnon in the Star Wars thread and beating us over the head as to why the film is not any good.

Felt like a waste to me. QT doing a Western with Morricone and Richardson, ability to do whatever he wants and it's a one setting Agatha Christie murder mystery. Hard not to be disappointed.

Yep. A wasted opportunity. He didn't need 70mm for this movie.

It's not a bad movie, but it is a big letdown given the potential for greatness both in and out of the genre. It should have been an Unforgiven for a new generation, but instead it's just a grindhouse Western murder mystery done as much like a stage play as possible.

I like how the movie had so much to say, but not directly, about race relations. Basically, Django patted you on the head and made you feel good about slavery being over and that race relations were going to be alright. H8 slaps you in the face and says no, racism is still all around, and worse, it's less obvious and better hidden.

It is QT's deepest and most political movie. He not only used The Great Silence as inspiration for the look of TH8, but just like Corbucci's film, the story and filmmaking is sprinkled with critique on socio-political issues.

You are simply wrong. I could go on for pages, but I'm using my phone so I'll use one brief example to make my point.

When the guy comes back in from the cold, he wraps himself in a buffalo rug and collapses by the fire. You can see every curl on that buffalo, you can see every frozen crystal of his breath, you can see every rough edge of the stone fireplace. The 70 mm reveals so much detail. Its strengths don't just come through when photographing infinite landscapes, 70 mm also reveals intimate detail. I wanted to curl up by that fire it looked so sumptuous.

It also effects the technique of the filmmaker. You don't need to move the camera or cut as often or cut in to a close up because the image is so detailed. The 70 mm was amazing in this. Made you feel like you were in the room.

Digital can do the same thing. It is very detailed and crystal clear.

Where 70mm film is vastly superior is outdoors, where Tarantino had some great landscapes available to him, but he wrote a claustrophobic story that didn't call for John Ford-esque photographay. He did not fully utilize the format.

We may disagree, but for me The Hateful 8 was a big disappointment. A real letdown.

Re: The Hateful Eight (Tarantino, 2015) — The Reviews Thread — SPOILERS

I strongly disagree and you come off like you didn't read my post. 70 mm has many strengths in intimate spaces and I gave examples.

Also, digital photography ain't got shit on 70 mm.

Let's talk Lawrence of Arabia. Everyone talks about Omar Sharif's entrance in that film. It IS an incredible example of the strengths of large format film. But there are other, much more intimate scenes that are also improved by 70 mm. Two that stand out are Lawrence's introduction in the basement. You can read the maps on the wall, you can see the stitches in the seams of his uniform, you can pear through the tiny windows and see the hoofs of the camels passing by outside. Another standout moment is when he meets with Alec Guinness's character in the tent. The wind blowing outside makes the tent sway, you can see every fiber in the Persian rugs they are sitting on, it's so detailed.

Back to Hateful 8. The stew. The wooden spoons knocking around in the bowls, I wanted a bowl so badly. There's was a moment when I thought the film might be veering toward the idea that Minnie and Dave were in the stew and I felt sick. Thank god that wasn't the case. Nonetheless the detail is so great.

Great thoughts. Sci-fi has often used it's other-worldly setting to comment on today's world, and I think Tarantino is looking around at race relationships in the US today and did some of the same.
