Well good news on that front, Batman Forever and Batman & Robin is returning to the big screen in a Fathom special event...
Batman Returns, too.

On that note I really want to see Batman when it’s Fathom event comes around. I’ve always wanted to see it on a big screen.

I was pretty underwhelmed when we finally got Wolverine's origin.
But the Joker's already had multiple origins in the comics, animated series, and in the movies.
Is he a mobster named Jack Napier? An unsuccessful stand-up comedian? The infamous Red Hood gang leader? A former hick named Joseph Kerr?
As long as it's not definite, I'm okay with it.

We all have our own idea of how the Joker should be portrayed but I'm still surprised that more people aren't on board with this. Like someone else said, this looks like a real movie and NOT a video game.
I'm glad DC looks to be making a come back.
Man of Steel, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Shazam!, and now possibly Joker.

I am not sure what this movie is hoping to accomplish or what it is bringing to the table. I’ll reserve judgment, but I have to admit I am skeptical.
The good: Phoenix is a masterful stroke for casting. A dark/gritty/realistic tone can really have some potential with this character.
The bad: The Joker works because of the mystery that envelops him. While the tone seems appropriate, giving us the Joker’s origin is a complete betrayal of the character.
The ugly: The look of the trailer. But that’s good.
Also ugly: The trailer itself. It does nothing (for me) to make me want to see this movie. That’s bad.

the trailer's a masterpiece!. that said, i hope no other trailers to flesh out the plot are forthcoming this summer either.. ah huh just drop that movie like a BOMB on oct. 4th. There's something about NOT KNOWING what we're in for with this movie that is highly appealing. collaboration of scorsese, phillips and phoenix is such the studio's confident they already have a winner in the can, then their silence this summer and leading up to movie release shall be very telling.
also i am almost half ashamed being human because i 've watched this trailer so many times, and i am off to watch it now, and watch others watch it and probably force folks to watch it

I'm just saying it looks like a movie about an aspect of a character (in this case: his origin, in my other example: the inner workings of Wayne Enterprises) and making a movie about it.
Again, you certainly CAN do that. But I can also look at it and think "I don't care about that". Now if the reviews make it seem interesting, I'll happily go. But all we have to work on now is the trailer and that does nothing for me personally.

Yet before I go more down into the rabbit hole I have to remind myself that this is just a trailer and the final product might not be as good as its selling advertisement. Just need to re-watch those Suicide Squad trailers again

That is true, although I often wonder what kind of movie we would have gotten if the studio hadn't tried to make it more like Guardians of the Galaxy. We know there are more scenes with Leto as Joker, so who knows what else was cut.

Nothing could ever redeem Letoker. Awful interpretation of the character. Whether what we saw was limited or not. At least Phoenix’s Joker looks interesting, if not a knock off of Ledger’s Joker.

Everything about the trailer looks and feels like a bad fan-made YouTube trailer. Not interested.
One thing I've never said is "I want a Joker origin movie". He's supposed to be a force of nature. A psychological mirror to remind Bruce Wayne of where the line is. Not a human character you should ever be able to understand or identify with.
What next, an unwanted origin story trying to humanize Willy Wonka? Oh wait...

Nope. It seems like virtually everyone agrees he was lame.
It's a shame, because I think Jared Leto had the physicality for the character right, and I liked the makeup and hair for him. It's just everything else, including his interpretation of the character with the bootleg Ledger voice was bad.

Okay, I see where you're coming from. I think a more appropriate, hypothetical comparison would be a film drama, where a young Bruce Wayne, pre-Batman, has to solve a murder mystery. But yeah, maybe for you this new Joker film looks like The Killing Joke but minus the present day stuff with Batman/Batgirl/Commissioner Gordon and the demented circus.

I just like ambiguity with the Joker. Trying to humanize him is like explaining the Force is midichlorians, IMHO.
