That looks like an Ironman ripoff.

Except for the fact that Blue Beetle debuted in 1939 and Iron Man in 1963. His origin, of course has changed over the years, but it wasn't a character that was made up to be like Iron Man since he didn't exist. I know you are talking about the look/story but Beetle does have a pretty long history. I mean, the current Spiderman is pretty much Iron Man (I'm hoping they go back to a more basic Spiderman for the next entry instead of Iron Man lite).

That doesn’t make any difference to me. This particular movie looks like a ripoff of the Iron Man movie from 2008.

It's been a while since I saw Iron Man but I think I still remember it pretty well. Besides the "tech armor that flies and shoots powered by a glowing thing on his body" similarity, I don't get what's similar: protag, background, origins, everything is pretty different. What's ripped off?

If it’s a rip off of anything, I’d say it’s Guyver.

It's only Iron Man in that the Scarab looks mechanical and he appears to have trouble controlling it at first (Stark's test-flight with the Mark II). Plotwise, it seems more like a mix of Spider-Man and Venom - teen gets accidental powers from a sentient suit that sometimes works without him knowing what to do. Either way, I don't think it's something that people were really clamoring for. It looks better-made than something like Morbius but I think it'll fizzle at the box office.

I tend to agree, though this is (I think) the first hispanic live action superhero to headline a movie (at least from the big 2...). That might be something. But it's not like the rest of the DC films have done anything to help this.

This doesn’t look bad but I’m not sure if I’ll see it in the theater.

The other one it kind of parallels (probably unintentionally) is Ant Man, with the comedic supporting cast, the supposed mentor, stolen tech and the bad guy looking like a variant of the good guy. Which probably also is not good for it.

I mean, that’s pretty much it. An apparent origin story about a guy in a mechanical super suit who spends a chunk of the movie learning to use it, seemingly to comedic effect. The shots of him communicating with the AI computer right down to the internal helmet cam and the bad guy who has a similar mechanical super suit all look very “Iron Man” to me.

Also, I seem to recall the last line of Iron Man was:
Spoiler:
”I am Iron Man, Cabron.”

The Guyver series did it better, although no talking AI but the suit was definitely sentient , especially in it's self- defense mode.

Gotta represent my peoples, so I will be there Day 1 in IMAX.

Yeah, it does remind me of Iron Man and Guyver. Is that a bad thing? I don't think so. I did notice in that extended trailer that they may have used that filter to de-age Susan Sarandon a bit. It was like that filter they used in Wednesday that de-aged Catherine Zeta-Jones.

The projections for this are dismal, 12 to 17 million opening weekend with a 27 to 55 million domestic run for a 120 million dollar movie? Ugh. WB is going to long for the good old days with Black Adam, it seems.

The funny thing about projections is that they seem like a self-fulfilling prophecy. Seems like a negative prediction well ahead of its release will place a subconscious negative impression and make people stay away because it "must be bad" even if it isn't.

There're rumblings that this movie is not canon to the DCU but that this iteration of the character is.

I'm sure that's not going to confuse people at all. I get it though, if the actor is good, let him return in another movie as part of the JL or Teen Titans or something.

So another Suicide Squad vs The Suicide Squad scenario.

Saw this too. That is so dumb. Why is it even going to theaters then? It should have just stayed a streaming movie on Max.

Honestly I don’t even know if James Gunn is going to be able to fix things at this point. DC as a brand in regards to movies is just so fucked up at this point. On top of this latest new Blue Beetle looks like it’s going to bomb hard.

I don’t know what’s going to restore faith in the brand with the general audience. Beyond Batman and related characters I really fear for the DCU going forward. It’s going to be a rocky road to at the least.

I guess whats considered Canon in the DCEU anymore😆?

The characters that end up in the second film are, but it doesn't make any reference to the events of the first film other than the Squad and Waller exist.
