Re: Zack Snyder’s Justice League (Snyder, 2021) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread
The MCU feels like it does a much better job playing by the rules it makes up and sticking to how the real world works for the non-fantastical/non-McGuffin aspects of its stories. That said, I have no problem calling it out when it does stupid shit just because it looks or seems cool. Thanos pulling a moon down in Infinity War bugged the shit out of me as for the pieces to get to the planet so fast, they’d have to be traveling at a speed that would’ve completely disintegrated everything and everyone in the scene.

If you like your edgelords (heroes) baked with with an extra 2hr helping of emo, then this is definitely the movie made for you. If looking at the 4hr Snyder fest gives you indigestion or and upset stomach, please avoid at all costs.

My personal thought (as well as many others online and my friends/family) is that pretty much every MCU movie has a coherent storyline. Not all are great, but if my parents can understand them, then the writers did the job. The second biggest callout is that the MCU isn’t bleak as hell like most DCU ones. If anything, the MCU showed their storylines can be simple, complex, and appeal to old and young alike without insulting neither.

She's great at starting rumors and then doing the whole backpedal and "it's all about interpretation" argument when proven wrong. She's also notorious for being kind to her fans until someone disagrees with her after which she blocks them. I read today that WB has no real interest in continuing the Snyderverse, and in all honesty, I think that's for the best. MOS, BvS, and his cut of Justice League form a pretty cohesive trilogy and the final part does a good job of being a love letter to DC fans and establishing a working universe.

But is than actually a good thing? Not taking any risk, just using the same formula over an over again. Don't get me wrong I like me some vanilla, but the DCEU tries different flavors, you might get salted-caramel or smurf-barf-bubblegum ice cream, but at least they are trying different recepies.

And my whole thing is if WBwasn't so quick on the draw and supposedly under the gun to release shit, had taken their time with the properties like Marvel did, we'd have an awesome universe that would have led to a more organic JL (2 and 3). WB wanted that shit 3 films in. While MCU had how many films under their belt by the time Avenger assembled? We needed Man of Steel 2, Batfleck solo movie, WW, Aquaman, Flash, Cyborg, etc., before JL. It took 10 years to get to Endgame. That's my biggest gripe.

I totally agree WB heads are mostly responsible for not giving the DCU any chance. Feige has pretty much carte blanche since the beginning of the MCU. Don’t mess with what’s working. WB thought they were that good. In reality, they are the complete opposite of that.

DCEU had/has no Kevin Feige to lead the way. Geoff Johns was supposed to be the one and he was about as useless as tits on a bull.

I read that and it does not sound optimistic to me at all. Lots of coded language.

I watched all 4 hour and....hated it.
Things I hated:
Things I hated:
- How willing the superheroes were to kill their enemies
- Overuse of slo-mo
- Superman, who represents truth, justice and hope and chooses darkness - literally, he picks a black costume for his comeback
- Superman, the paragon of a hero, maims his enemy in a fight by lasering off his horn
- Wonder Woman, decapitates a defeated enemy because, why not?
- Batman - "and make no mistake, I will fucking kill you."
- Also, Batman, whose parents were gunned down, to whom guns are anathema, picks up a gun and blasts hundreds of parademons out of existence
- The aspect ratio
- The dialogue - Cyborg: "It's nature is to fly" (no shit, it's a plane) - Batman: "Just like you." Ugh.
- The length.
- The general "darkness" of the film. In every possible way.
The killing of the aliens did not bother me, I would have been bothered had they not engaged in the killing
I liked the movie, and here are my hates:
- Superman losing his mind over a chick. If he had to lose his mind and become evil, it should be over his mom, not a hoe.
- Hand to hand combat. They have devices that can change worlds. But the baddies still need to fight with fists and arrows?
- Similarly later in the movie, and this is going to be a problem going forward in all superhero movies: the need to be present physically to fight. How about some drones? Batman pummeling is obsolete. Bruce Wayne has 6 satellites, a massive flying plane. He cannot built 1000 drones?
I liked the dark tone. No Marvel rainbows please.

Sounds to me like she was really saying: "We had no interest whatsoever in letting Snyder realize his vision, but since we had a pandemic and needed material for this streaming service, we let him do it. Now that it's over and served its purpose for us, we hope he and the fans fuck off and let us reboot this the way we want."

Some people complain about how dark the DC films are. I don't mind that. What I mind is how artificial they usually feel. They all seem to revert to this video game cut scene feel to them, and Snyder is the worst offender at that. I'm aware Marvel uses plenty of digital, but the worlds feel much more lived in to me. It makes it easier to buy into other stuff or be more forgiving.
Bottom line: if you keep people entertained, they aren't as likely to worry about the little things.

It didn't come from nowhere. Cyborg rigged it so she won the "Gotham Bank Jackpot" prize. This was specifically shown in the film with a big CONGRATULATIONS! message. Hell, someone had to win it.

It also bothered me when Flash was shot. It looked like a minor flesh wound, but he needed to be carried away and couldn't walk on his own.

Ok, the amazons had arrows but were killing para demons who are organic. Then the Goddess Artemis shoots down a ship, but she doesn't just have regular arrows. She's a God. She has powers and so does her bow and arrows. It's clearly depicted.

I'm aware. I still thought it looked silly and made me wonder why they weren't just shooting all those ships down from the start. Probably would have saved some ground effort.

Because they got flooded with with bad guys. Shit, why was that Green lantern so weak? He got taken out by Uxas who wasn't even Darkseid so easily. Now you see how it took Ares, a God, to bring someone like Uxas down. Damn it, more minutiae.

That was my whole point. If they had the ability to take down those ships so easily, there was no reason for them to get flooded with bad guys. Dedicate magical arrows to ships and the rest of your forces to enemies on the ground.
