Re: 2013: TV Shows you've given up on already

I just picked up The Americans and am enjoying it three episodes in. I meant to try The Following as well but I was a little too late and Comcast removed the first few episodes.

I only watched one episode each of Revolution and Arrow but mean to catch up with them later.

Re: 2013: TV Shows you've given up on already

This season I've dropped:
Vegas
Deception
Girls
Arrow
Ripper Street
The Following
Vampire Diaries

I'm on the fence about:
Once Upon a Time
Continuum
Cult (although I may have already dropped that one. I forgot.)

I can't believe the cancelled Zero Hour. They haven't showed enough episodes to figure out what's going on yet. Why even bother airing it in the first place?

Re: 2013: TV Shows you've given up on already

I watched the first couple episodes of The Following and have about 4 on my dvr, I might try watching the next one, but if I lose interest, I done

I havent picked up too many new shows at all, I keep a nice small balance of scripted high quality shows and some of the pseudo reality show like storage wars etc when I want some mindless viewing to relax. I dont get how some have the time that they do to watch all the shows that they do. My last 4 days have been shot due to family obligations, so when I do pick up on something, it has to be pretty good.

That said, Ive continued with many a show that have eventually jumped the shark just due to the time I've invested in it, such as Californication, and Weeds (worst series finale ever) and want to see the show get on track or see how it ends

Only new shows I've kept with this year were the House of Cards netflix series which I finished over a weekend, and Joe Schmo

To see if it can draw an audience, your audience won't grow if you shed viewers every week.

I realized I had several shows on the DVR that I hadn't watched a single episode of so just this week I gave up on The Americans without a single watch. More to follow.

The only show I would tell people to give it another chance if they dropped it early on, is Elementary. There is great chemistry between the leads and mostly smart writing for a show where the mystery has to be solved within the episode. I can't see how anyone that liked House would not watch Elementary.

The Following. The FBI agents are more bumbling that the cops in the Police Academy films.

Once Upon A Time
Chicago Fire
Cult - on the bubble (if it isn't canceled first)
Hawaii Five - O (without question the dumbest show on network television)

I was so certain I was going to hate this show that I didn't even watch the first 5 or 6 episodes. I caught an episode once when there was nothing else on, and now I look forward to it every week.

The problem is, I just saw promo articles in the newspaper about Zero Hour last week. Some of the media were still letting the public know about the show. I know nobody reads newspapers any more, but I would assume these entertainment type articles could help spike viewership. Unless, of course, you don't give them a chance to work.

Yeah but I get it too - it's tough to let a show stay on the air in prime time when it's ratings are roughly equal to a repeat of American Pickers.

I don't think you'd be disapointed with this one.

That's too bad. Excellent show. I guess someone's going to say that to me too since I dropped The Americans. Terribly boring.

Everybody has different taste, apparently I only love Breaking Bad because I'm told I'm supposed to.

I gave up on Zero Hour after the pilot. I also gave up on The Following, but now that it's gotten greenlit for Season 2, I'll probably spend the summer catching up.

I've also given up on Revenge, after following it loyally for a season and a half.

Shows you watched religiously but eventually gave up on.

At some point in time I loved these shows, but the quality dropped to a level so low that I stopped watching:

The Simpsons
ER
Dexter
Rescue Me
True Blood
24

I stopped watching The Simpsons in its late teen years for a couple of years and eventually came back. Rescue Me was a show I dropped before its last couple of seasons, though the decline and rot had set in before that point.

Re: Shows you watched religiously but eventually gave up on.

For people who stopped watching The Simpsons it's gotten considerably better in my honest opinion. I've been a fan for a long time and some of the late teen years weren't great, but around season twenty or so it's gotten better and continues to be good. Still has misses now and then but that can be said about a lot of shows.

The one show I gave up on that I really enjoyed for a while is The Office. First three seasons or so were great and then it started getting rocky around season four. I watched the first few episodes or so of season five and wasn't enjoying it anymore so I stopped watching. I watched the finale but that's all I've seen between season five and the end of the show.

Re: Shows you watched religiously but eventually gave up on.

That's not really how I work with shows. It can kind of apply to shows I tried on DVD yet it really did not catch on or it got crazy. Something like 24 I tried about three seasons on DVD and I got really tired of it hitting the same annoying beats. Like everyone forgot everything he had done from the last season or five.

I still need to finish Hemlock Grove yet it's rather boring and I only have five episodes left.

There were likely a few shows that I kind of watched when I was younger with family and such yet never really cared for them.

I've tried the first season of some shows that never clicked like Dexter (nothing really wrong with it, just did not care enough after trying the first season, same with Games Of Thrones yet with that I just found it cruel)

There really had not been a show that I watched weekly that I just stopped one day. I'm not hard to entertain so if I'm watching a program I'm likely going to keep with it.

Star Wars Clone Wars--watched about four seasons and got bored with it. I did hear it got better again so I may go back someday.

Heroes - bailed at the beginning of season 3, probably like a lot of others.

The Mentalist - watched it weekly but just didn't start again when season 3 came on, and haven't seen it since. Not due to quality or anything, I just stopped.

Battlestar Galactica - Loved it so much I named my dog Apollo. Then came the "Scar" episode and it was all downhill from there. I finally gave up during that stupid boxing episode.

The Simpsons for me. I used to watch this show religiously even starting the weekly threads but I stopped watching it the last two seasons. I might start again thanks to the Futurama episode this season.

That was when Geoff Johns got involved, wasn't it? I finally started watching a few episodes here and there at that point.
