Not really. Your brain stops working so well when you get older, and you want to relax and veg out more.

It's why CBS shows are such a hit with old people.

Damn, my daughter watching this one w/ me.

Oh well...

I gave up on "Blue Bloods" and "Nikita" early last fall.

I made it almost two months into "Revolution" before bailing.

I really wish the wife would drop "2BG" as it becomes worse by the week.

And we are grimacing as "The Office" crawls to the finish line. So sad.

Re: 2013: TV Shows you've given up on already

Big Bang Theory - The chemistry on the show is completely different now than its early years and they've run the same jokes into the ground.

Anything on NBC except the occasional Parks episode - It's very possible that NBC is not a broadcast network within a few years.

Ripper Street - Too much of an episodic crime procedural to hold my interest

Continuum - I'm barely holding on at this point. Episodic Sci-fi only works in a very strong mythology, a la Star Trek.

I stopped watching HIMYM a few episodes into this season. It was just such a great show and now they're in cartoon land where it doesn't even resemble the early classic episodes.

Suburgatory - It's cute, but not good enough to keep me tuning in every single week.

I don't watch much TV, so that's about it.

Shows I need to catch up on is Nikita and Supernatural.

Shows I intend to start is Arrow and Hunted.

Re: 2013: TV Shows you've given up on already

I'll only list shows I used to love that I'm bailing on this season.

The Walking Dead - I don't know what I expect from this show anymore, but the good group vs the bad group & the constant bickering about who gets to be in what group just isn't doing it for me anymore.

American Idol - Same old types of singers over-singing the same old songs. I tried fast forwarding to the interesting contestants this year & realized there aren't any.

Survivor - who's favorites exactly are these?

I'm almost with you on that one. The extra focus on Chris Parnell and Ana Gasteyer's kids are keeping me tuned in.

Speaking of which, have Tessa and her dad even shared a scene together this season?

I'm trying to remember if they did last week, but besides that I can't think of an episode where they didn't have a scene together.

I bailed on Cult after the Pilot. Found the whole premise of a TV show within a TV show to be hokey. I think Matt Davis will be returning to The Vampire Diaries next season.

Plus it looks like its DOA anyways. Got banished to Fridays.

It's really taken off. The last episode that aired this past week which was written by Geoff Johns, one of the writers at DC comics, was one of the best this season.

I like comic book movies, but I'm not as crazy about them as a lot of people here. I didn't read many comics as a kid, so I didn't have that attachment (or really any knowledge at all) to the character. I can definitely see how people would get more out of it if they have knowledge of that world. The show just didn't do much for me and I didn't care much for the lead actor. With all the praise it's getting, I might check it out again this summer when there's less on.

I mean I thought Nikita was pretty damn cheesy at the start (well, it still is really), but I'm 3 seasons in and hooked.

This completely describes me. Last season just took it out of me. I just wasn't willing to devote so much time to it anymore. Plus, I hated trying to arrange my recordings around all the Idol episodes. I thought I might regret my decision to drop it. Turns out, I don't. I also dropped X-Factor. I watched much of the early part of the season, but I gave up on it.

I watched Glee all of the previous seasons and intended to watch this one, but after missing the first episode or two because of recording conflicts, I just never pursued it and don't miss it.

Shows I sampled this season but didn't continue watching:

Vegas
Zero Hour
Deception
The Neighbors

New shows that are on the bubble for me:

Revolution (Until this thread, I had forgotten about it during its long hiatus. Not a good sign.)
Red Widow (I know it just started, but it just didn't grab me. Maybe I'll give it another episode, but it's doubtful.)

I gave up on every new show I tried.

The Arrow
The Following
The Neighbors
Elementary
Vegas
Ben & Kate

EDIT: Oops, forgot about Revolution. I'll probably dump that soon.

Community is the only one I've given up on, but the only scripted shows I other watch are Nikita, Walking Dead, Modern Family, Hawaii 5-0 and Elementary.

Might have to give Arrow a shot with all the praise it's getting in this thread.

Anyone that likes action dramas will like Arrow. The CW is blowing their budget on this show for a reason.

Re: 2013: TV Shows you've given up on already

at all the shows getting dumped. I got burned last year when I broke my "wait until there's a season 2 announcement" and picked up a half dozen new shows only to see all but one(Person of Interest) get shit canned. I dumped PoI anyway, it just wasn't doing anything for me. This year I didn't pick up a single show and it looks like I'm not missing out on much.

That being said, I was dangerously close to dumping Burn Notice and Hawaii Five-0 but both did a 180 this season and have been a blast. As others mentioned The Office and HIMYM should have gotten the boot, but I'm slogging through both this near the end. My comedy plate is light as is, so they got a stay of execution.

Ted Danson and to a lesser extent, Elizabeth Shue have really reinvigorated the show. I still look forward to it each week.

Re: 2013: TV Shows you've given up on already

American Idol - I watched since the very first episode. After Simon left, the show went down the tubes with the addition of Lopez and Tyler but I kept going. After last season was a crushing bore, I gave up. As others have said, I just don't have the strength to dedicate 4 hours a week any more. I've checked out a few minutes of the show a couple of times this season, and went away glad every time that I've stopped watching. Nicky Minaj might be the most annoying person on television.

Neighbors - I can't say I really gave up on the show, because I only watched the pilot episode. Haven't watched it since, but instead of being cancelled instantly by the network, like everyone thought, hasn't it been getting decent ratings?

Nothing is ever really completely given up on since I tend to watch the entire season once it's added to Netflix regardless of initial thoughts.

No, actually. While it pulls higher ratings than Don't Trust the Bitch in Apt 23 did and Happy Endings does, it's part of the Wednesday night block and has absolutely atrocious numbers for that.

ABC tried building a comedy block around Modern Family and while it worked moderately well when Happy Endings was there, they've completely botched it with their "family" shows block. If they want a family show block bring back TGIF, otherwise Modern Family sort of stands on its own and isn't a "family comedy" in the traditional sense.

Anyhow Wednesday night block ratings:

8:00 PM ABC The Middle 2.1 6 7.96
8:30 PM ABC The Neighbors 1.7 5 6.12
9:00 PM ABC Modern Family 3.9 10 10.59
9:30PM ABC Suburgatory 2.3 6 6.30

That first number is the 18 - 49 number that they cherish so much, followed by the 18 - 49 share and then total viewers. With 1.7 in the 18-49 and 6.12m viewers it's the lowest watched show on the Wednesday block and has the worst key demo performance. Suburgatory also isn't doing so well.

Re: 2013: TV Shows you've given up on already

Dropped The Following after one episode. Had more on the DVR, but after hearing a few spoilers I realized it was going to be one of those shows that annoyed the hell out of me so I cut my losses.

Even though I never watched Storage Wars or Comic Book Men religiously, I used to turn them on every once in awhile if nothing else was on. But all the increasingly phony setups have turned me off from even casual viewing.

Re: 2013: TV Shows you've given up on already

Just deleted all unwatched episodes of "The Following" from my DVR. I saw about 3.5 episodes so far and based on what I've read here, I was not interested in the seeing any more. Maybe I'll watch the finale, if there is one. I saw one episode of "Zero Hour" and have the other two recorded, but now that I see it has been canceled, I guess that one is a goner too. "Vegas" couldn't hold my interest. They did a pretty good job of recreating the era, but the stories are pretty dumb and Dennis Quaid really ruins the show. I wish they would kill him off and let Jason O'Mara be the sheriff.
