I just thought that the show started getting old. Hard to re-invent the Superman character year after year.

Chloe had too much of a big part in the show when in real comic books the character never existed.

Bones, I think I watched until season 7 or 8, finally gave up because it became a shell of itself.
Burn Notice after the fourth season I think, it just got too repetitive for me
Chuck, after I think the third season, it got too cheesy

Danson is great on CSI. Fishburne was okay.

I was there premier night for ER and didn't miss an episode for years. However I dumped it the summer before its penultimate season but returned for the final season. Not sure if it was worth returning for.

I can't remember what season that was in but that was definitely a moment where I thought the series took Michael's stupidity to a new level and almost stopped watching. I think that was in season four so I hung on a while longer only before bailing in season five.

I haven't watched much since Danson has been on but he seems alright in the role. I didn't care much for Fishburne on CSI at all though.

Weeds is a good one I forgot about. I stopped watching after season four. I just realized I didn't care about it anymore and the only reason I was watching was because Mary Louise Parker is hot but she wasn't enough for me to keep on watching.

I stuck with "Bones" officially through the wedding, though I think it just ran out of steam the season before.
I lost my DVRed episodes of "True Blood" in the middle of Season Four and always intended to go back and catch up, but all the negative comments on boards like this make me think I'll not do that after all.
I dropped "The Simpsons" maybe four or five seasons ago, -before the film came out (which I saw and enjoyed); it finally just felt labored to me after watching faithfully for so long.
I dropped "The Office" about the time Michael Scott was leaving, just because of the continued cartoonishness of Scott's character.
I finally stopped watching "Glee" this year, -immediately after the Cory Monteith tribute, -because it just felt like that closed the book on the show's creative arc.
I'd give up on "American Horror Story" after "Coven", but the show's conceit of an entirely new story will keep me watching, -at least for a while.

I was hooked on the show until Anthony Edwards' character Mark Greene "exited" the show. I saw the 1st episode of the following season but stopped watching after that episode, only tuning in again for the finale many years later.

(I could be called an "original cast fan of E.R." because when almost all of the original cast was gone, so was I.)

I actually thought the show had gotten dreary with the Lana drama but picked up again for a season or two after it switched creative personnel. The last season regressed again, though.

And what does it matter if the character is in the comics or not? This is a different property based on the same universe. If you don't like the character, that's fine, but it was never intended to be a direct translation.

The jump the shark Office moment for me was the episode where Michael had promised scholarships to that class of kids. I had started liking the show less and less before that but that was the moment where I stopped watching and never looked back.

ER for me. When they lost all the core players and turned it into a damn soap opera around Luka, I gave up.

Friends - watched religiously every Thursday but i just got too ridiculous with all the love interest swapping they did. I think by the end each male "friend" and each female "friend" had hooked up or pined for the other. I stopped watching a season or two before it ended. I still don't think I've ever seen the finale in reruns.

The West Wing - It was my favorite show for the first few years. The quality really dropped when Aaron Sorkin left and I stopped watching when the original cast started leaving.

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation - I never missed an episode the first few seasons but once Grissom left so did I. I never saw an episode with Laurence Fishburne or Ted Danson even though I like both a actors.

I still liked the series but kind of fell behind on Burn Notice. I still need to get back to it one of these days. I will admit that the season when Jesse was added (I think four or five) I was getting a bit bored with it though.

My Other Self

I should have given up on The Office after Season 4, but I didn't. I rode it out to the end like a few of us here. That's the definitive quality-dive show for me. It just became bad.

I guess I've never stopped watching a show due to stupidity, although some (like Sons of Anarchy) I probably should have. Sometimes it's just fun to MST3K bad shows.

Glee -- I know it's going into it's last season now, but I stopped watching early into season 3. Loved season 1 and watched it religiously. But season 2 I fell way behind and it got really hard trying to get caught up. But I managed to finish season 2 eventually. With a lot of things going on, I wasn't able to stay on top of season 3. I bought the BD of season 3 is hopes of getting caught up for season 4, but at that point, the show's novelty even in pop culture wore off. And I finally called it quits. It's obvious that no one, especially in this forum, cares about it anymore. A good friend of mine, who was a die hard fan for the first 3 seasons, is 2 seasons behind now. But, he vows to eventually finish it off since the show is ending.

Bones - I watched it regularly for the first 6 seasons. But then I fell behind. A lot of times, long running procedurals, especially with 2 attractive leads playing the will they or will they card lose their charm and I think that's what happened here. I have caught some key episodes here and there, but I'm really not a regular viewer anymore. But, recently I've made an attempt to get back into it since it's getting close to the end.

Ghost Whisperer - I know it's no longer on the air, but it was one of my favorite Friday night CBS shows. Then, they "killed" JLH's husband in season 4 and resurrected him in a ridiculous fashion for the 5th season, which ended up being it's last. I lost interest early in season 5. I've just never been inspired enough to re-visit the final season and finish it up even though it is on Netflix and Hulu.

Heroes - Was a pretty die hard fan for seasons 1-3, even though 2 and 3 are regarded as crap by most fans. The shortened Carnival season (season 4) had a promising start, but again I simply lost interest. I think I had maybe 7 or 8 more episodes I didn't see in season 4, which was the last. With it coming back next summer and it reportedly being a self contained "event" season, I may try catching it.

Justified - Yes, I know it's one of the most loved shows here, but for some odd reason, I just couldn't get into season 4 early on. Then season 5 came and went. Since season 6 is the last, I'll try to go back and finish the remaining episodes I missed, but honestly I've never been a huge fan of the show like most here. Maybe it's just the show has gotten a little too red neck for me.


I really don't like giving up on shows so easily like most here. Even long running shows that I fall weeks, months behind on. But, the above examples are cases where I either simply lost interest or was so pressed for time, that seasons passed by.


New Girl was awful this past season and a major chore to get through, but I did finish it. I'm not sure I will come back in the Fall yet

I've been tempted numerous times to quit 2 Broke Girls since it's really not a good sitcom with mostly lame gross humor, but it still has some charm for me.

Now that I have a Directv Genie, I have a little more flexibility recording shows I like, but part of the reason I was forced to drop those and a few others was that I used to have only a 20 hour Tivo and then only a 40 hour Directv DVR. Finding space on those machines, especially recording in HD, was really hard.

Simpsons, Mentalist, and Hawaii-5-0.

I tend to watch shows till their end, even Heroes and Lost, but Simpsons lost me during S11. I've watched episodes here and there after and concluded I haven't been missing much.

Mentalist lost me after the second Red John conclusion fake out.

H50 just became unwatchable.
