I'd like to thank everyone in this thread for being educated and sensitive enough not to refer to Kate's dad (the Sgt) as her "fake dad" or Wayne as her "real dad" like they were doing over at TWOP. As an adoptive father, it was pissing me off in a big way. "Fathering" is the act of raising of child, caring for them, feeding them, clothing them, teaching them right from wrong, etc. Supplying the sperm is being a donor.
Thanks everybody. You guys rock!

My Tivo recorded it fine. Do you have a season pass set up? They added something in the latest software update called "Overlap Protection" so if one show ends while another is starting, it'll record the one that is higher in the Season Pass listing.
Example:
Lost 9:00 - 10:04
Invasion 10:00 - 11:00
If Invasion is first in your list, it switched to Invasion at 10:00 or whatever show you may have it Tivoing at 10:00. Otherwise it finishes Lost then switches to the other show. Make sure Lost is #1 in your Season Pass list.
As for the show:
The horse is real it would seem as Sawyer saw it too and Kate could touch it. It seemed to be the same horse (same breed) that helped her escape from the Marshall. If Walt gets caught for using that computer then maybe the scientists will know that the survivors are in the hatch and send the "Security System" after them. We haven't heard from that thing in a while.

Kate finds out Wayne is in fact her bilogical father and can't handle this idea that she is a part of him, so she blows him up. Now whenever she looks at Saywer, she sees Wayne? Why? Because Saywer is an abusive jerk too? She also gets sick to her stomach everytime she sees Saywer and is reminded of Wayne, but somehow this is a turn-on for her, because she wants to screw Saywer?
Is that pretty much it? Am I missing something here? Am I the only one who find Kate's motivations to commit murder a little empty and lacking? I am curious to know what others think.

I found it all quite strange too. All the sudden Sawyer now reminds her of her asshole father?

Did anyone else notice that when the car crashes into the telephone pole - the impact was strong enough to set off the airbags, but when Kate backs the car up the front of the car is intact - Not one Scratch!!
Why the fuck would they send a US Marshal to Australia to apprehend a woman who committed insurance fraud and murdered an abusive drunk? Honestly - How much could that house have been insured for ($20,000). Oh yeah, she stole one thing from a safety deposit box - a toy plane. Let's send out the Feds to get this Mastermind theif.
And to boot, the Marshal thought that Kate was such a threat that he packed 5 guns for the trip. Who did he think he was going to catch - Neo??
This back-story just sucked.
I could understand the manhunt if she killed her father the decorated/high ranking military man, or if her father was a wealthy/powerful man, or even a U.S. Senator.... but a redneck drunk???

Ordinarily, I like TiVo very much, but this was a very bad thing it did.

And DVD Josh, I agree. a marshall would definitely be sent to australia to pick her up after all the things she did up until that point. And they were first used just to arrest her in the US.

This freaked her out some more and kind of pissed her off. She's wanted to be attracted to Jack, because he's a "good" guy; leader, dcotor, etc. but she's not. thus the reaction and her running away.

on the ana-lucia front, it was nice to see her actually smile. i've never been much of an MR fan, but she is a hell of a lot more attractive when she smiles. i'd love for her to change from being some damn militant girlfighter.

They've used the Marshalls for much, much less.
I for one was glad to see a return to the island's mystical side. That was the thing that intriiged me most originally with lost. Polar bears and monsters. Dead fathers and whisperings. Now we have horses. I enjoyed this episode a lot.
We now have another character with daddy issues. Seems to be running theme with the show.

I agree that it looks like there might be something brewing between Kate/Sawyer.
Especially since Jack and Ana Lucia seemed to bond on the beach over little bottles of booze.
And speaking of Ana, looks like they're trying to make her more likeable. Less screen time, and what she does get, she's sitting on the beach feeling remorse.
Kate could very well be a sociopath. Her (Army stepfather she thought was her real father) didn't seem to trust her before she murdered Wayne; and her reasons for killing Wayne were extremely self-serving. (Unless there's more to that than she claimed.)
The Marshall also comes off like a dick every time he appears. He seems to enjoy interacting with Kate a little too much, almost like he has some kind of twisted sexual fixation on her, and needs to dominate her. Most cops, when they arrest people, are just doing their jobs. He seems to enjoy fucking with her.

Even Anakin's reason for turning Dark Side was better explained than Kate's crime. Do I have this right?
Austen and Mom marry.
Austen goes to Korea.
Mom has affair with Drunk and has Kate.
Austen returns and agrees to raise Kate.
After 5 years, Austen decides he's had enough and leaves Kate behind, somehow knowing that this 5 year old has "murder in her heart" and will one day kill her biological father.
Mom marries Drunk.
And the reason Kate killed Drunk was because once she found out she had drunken wifebeater blood in her, she decided her life was over?
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmk.
Love Eko and Locke though, and hopefully the return of Interesting Sayid.

I think it has much more to do with the fact that she hated Wayne with all her being since he abused her mother and drove away her father. After she found out that Wayne was her 'real' father her hatred became unbearable. After some time, (how much I don't know), she couldn't take it any more and exploded.

I'm noticing a theme with displaced fathers/father figures for all the characters. Have all the main characters lost their fathers in some manner?
Jack - father died in Australia
Kate - killed her own father
Sawyer - his father commited suicide
Hurley - grandfather had heart attack (was his father even in his flashbacks?)
Shannon/Boone - again, no father figure...right?
Locke - father used Locke for his transplant - maybe we'll see his ultimate demise yet.
Walt - separated until just before flight 815
Sun - father wrecked her marriage by forcing/bribing Jin into uncomfotable roles.
Jin - denounced his lifestyle as a fisherman and left home

Didn't they say in Season 1 that Kate was Canadian(just like Evangeline Lilly in real life)? Her biological and surrogate parents all appeared to be American in the flashback though.

People seem to be forgetting that the man Kate was in love with died as a direct result of Kate murdering her father. Remember he got shot when they were in the car together because she wouldn't turn herself in? That right there is truly reprehensible.

Enjoyed the heck out of this episode (but then, I like the episodes everyone else complains about too ).
So, with six weeks of reruns coming up, does anyone know what the schedule will be? I got some friends hooked on the show by loaning them the season 1 DVDs, but they missed the first 5 episodes of this season. Next week looks like Hurley's flashback again, but when will the first 2 from this season be rerun?
And did anyone notice the Dharma logo on Jin's abs??
